Giving Up the Helm[edit]

"It must be given up after the quest and cannot subsequently be retrieved."

This is wrong. The Bloodworm helm and the Necromancers amulet are in a locked chest in the Arch-mages chambers which you can open with the Arch-mages key. Wait until you have become Arch-mage yourself to take them legally (without them registering as stolen items). --Lars BM 14:45, 28 April 2008 (EDT)

That's only true if you have installed the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, which is why there is a UOP tag, and a note specifically stating that UOP makes the helm available. However, the majority of players cannot install UOP, and it is an unofficial patch. All UESP articles focus on documenting the game as distributed by Bethesda. --NepheleTalk 15:55, 28 April 2008 (EDT)

essence drain[edit]

Would it be possible to, whilst wearing the helm (before giving it up), make a copy of the essence drain spell at the altar of spell-making and therefore keep the effects (if you don't already have them, that is). The-manta 19:12, 15 July 2008 (EDT)

Very old question, but since it's still up I'll answer it: No. The spell doesn't use the same amount of mana as a custom spell with the same effects. http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Leveled_Spells#Essence_Drain Bushwhacker (talk) 17:42, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

screenshot[edit]

can someone please upload a picture of the helm being worn — Unsigned comment by 81.141.178.63 (talk) at 22:36 on 29 August 2009

That would look different for every possible character design. Instead we opted for a picture of just the helmet as the best appearance for its representation. --Timenn-<talk> 14:41, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Glitch[edit]

Are there any mods that allow you get the higher level versions of Essence Drain? Also, I don't want anyone telling me to make the spell, I want to know if there's a way to get the cheap version. — Unsigned comment by 67.65.251.241 (talk) at 06:43 on 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Well, you could simply type player.addspell 0007BE33 in the console to acquire the strongest version of the spell. --Timenn-<talk> 13:01, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Permanent Essence Drain[edit]

Sometimes when I put on the helm, then take it off, the spell essence drain stays with me forever. This has happened several times with me.--Arch-Mage MattTalk 23:27, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Just happend with me, it made me so happy i looked for this page for 10 mintuites :P Mikeyboy52 14:37, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

No essence drain[edit]

the first time i tried this quest i got the essence drain but now no matter what i do no matter what character i play with it wont show up on my magic list (yes i am weraring the helm) is their anything i can do.--(Theblack7 19:54, 31 July 2010 (UTC))

Have you read the article? It clearly states that Essence Drain is only available in the 1-4 version of the Helm, the other versions are bugged and do not add the spell. --S'drassa T2M 20:49, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
oh sorry i thought it ment you get the essence drain but its a weaker version thanks for clearing that up--(Theblack7 10:39, 2 August 2010 (UTC))

Possible Solution to Obtaining Second Helm?[edit]

I know that obtaining the Staff of Worms is impossible before the Bloodworm Helm is turned in. However, with the addition of the Shivering Isles expansion, does anyone know if it is possible to obtain the Risen Flesh Greater Power, then use it on Irlav. Once he is resurrected, hit him with the Skull of Corruption, kill the clone, and exploit the glitch where you save / reload to enter his inventory. With this, it should be possible to get a Bloodworm Helm. Then turn it in, return to the fort and take the other for yourself? Can someone confirm this? I know that in some cases, having two of the same item that must be turned in for a quest negates the dialog needed to turn it in, thus rendering the quest broken. I also know that the Bloodworm Helm is a Quest Item and therefore can not be dropped. But it would be nice to not have to turn it in (Have a copy), should this be the case. Thanks. - Haugen 08:15, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Even if it does work, I don't think the Bloodworm Helm would work as expected, since cloned items usually lose the scripting attached to them. Robin Hoodtalk 01:56, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
Your idea works, Haugen. Doom Knight 05:59, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
