Servants[edit]

Can this house have servants? If so, where do you hire them — Unsigned comment by 24.126.160.101 (talk) at 14:34 on 8 November 2009

Unfortunately, no. There are no servants available for Benirus Manor. --Krusty 14:39, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Fast Travel[edit]

Can`t fast travel from it. Even after installing UOP. 89.39.161.146 05:46, 16 November 2009 (UTC)polymer

As far as I'm aware, you can't fast travel from inside any houses, UOP or not. Darkholme 14:35, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
I don't think it's quite that limited. One definitely cannot fast travel from Benirus Manor, but at least on PS3 GOTY one can fast travel from all other purchased houses (IC, Cheydinhal, Bruma, Bravil, Chorrol, and Leyawiin). Reward houses (like the Priory of the Nine and the White Stallion Lodge) are another matter.Oblivoid 03:36, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
You can fast travel from all the other houses for sale, but I don't understand why this is such a big deal. Just step outside! rpeh •TCE 05:07, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Mostly it's just an anomaly with Benirus Manor, but I think it can cause some understandable head-scratching. I know I was confused about it when I first started playing—--why one could fast travel from the other houses but not from Benirus Manor. Especially for Vampire players, the other for-purchase houses provide a convenient way to start fast traveling during daylight. Because it's unusual among other houses that the player can purchase, I wonder if it might be worth mentioning this limitation on the Benirus Manor page.Oblivoid 22:21, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

() Though I don't often fast-travel, doing so from within a house has been particularly useful for me as a vampire, so I agree that it's worth mentioning on the article. I've added the info. --GKtalk2me 18:21, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Strange problem[edit]

I have a strange problem. This house just "disappeared". I mean, there are doors etc. but no model of this house. When I try to enter (well, this is possible) I'm just finding nothing more but a black "hole", with endless space. It's impossible to explore it without using TCL console command. I bought it and it worked well, but now it's just useless. — Unsigned comment by 95.49.51.24 (talk) on 15 April 2010

That's strange indeed. From what I understand, it's a problem of meshes/textures either missing or not loading properly. Have you recently tinkered around in Oblivion/Data or added any mods? --SerCenKing Talk 21:41, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
I actually installed some official plugins (including SI), nothing more. I'm not good at TES Construction Set, and I really tried to look for Anvil, but I think I'm just TESCS analphabet. ^^ It quiet pissed me off, because I had some valuable items indoor (but at least I was able to retreive them). 95.49.7.35 13:06, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Well, second sign: I'm not actually worried about it, it's just a house and it doesn't matter to me too much, but I'm just curious about it and I'll be glad if I fix it. Well, Benirus just BS-ed me again. :D 95.49.7.35 13:14, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Expensive house[edit]

Weird, it cost me 20K gold, not 5. — Unsigned comment by 83.248.228.167 (talk)

You sure you didn't buy Rosethorn Hall?--TheAlbinoOrcGot_a_question? 23:56, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Safe Containers?[edit]

In the basement, are the sacks behind the altar safe? Or do they respawn? — Unsigned comment by 76.114.195.126 (talk) on 22 July 2010

Like all the containers in the house, they do not respawn but are reset when the house is restored, so they are not safe for long-term storage until the quest has been completed. --GKtalk2me 00:16, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
I am busy trying to check if the containers actually reset. I put 3 arrows in each container on the ground an first floor. (not in the basement and I found most of them back, but I'll check it again to get more details.

rename it[edit]

can you actually rename it or does it just say that in the deed?

Nope, there's no way (in-game) to rename the house. It says the same thing on a couple of other house deeds, too, but there's no way to do it. --GKtalk2me 04:30, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Invisible footboard on the bed[edit]

I just found something really funny/weird: If you are standing in front of the bed and shoot an arrow towards the head board of the bed, it hits something invisible right above the foot board. The noises are as if you hit wood and the arrow hangs free in mid air. Would be a nice way to take screenshots if I weren't on the XBox... Seems the footboard is being handeled as if it were as high as the head board. --Romulus 11:44, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Ghost remains[edit]

After I finished the quest all the ghost remained as blotches on the floor. Its kinda annoying and kills the mood, so to say. I don't know how to remove them, any suggestions? I tried the "delete" commend on the console with no luck. Also can't move them. 72.74.214.56 01:58, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

The command isn't "delete", it's "disable". But you don't need it anyway - the remains will disappear in a few days. rpeh •TCE 08:26, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Resetting containers[edit]

I tried to check which containers reset themselfes after Benirus renovates the building. My method was to put 3 arrows in each container before the renovation, so I could check how many of the arrows I would find back after the renovation.

Containers which I checked: All containers on the ground/second floor: drawers/cupboards/chests

Before the renovation: 24 arrows -> 8 containers. After the renovation: 21 arrows -> 7 containers. Containers with the arrows still in them:

  • Cupboard, first room on the left side (ground floor)
  • Cupboard, room with the stairs, left side (ground floor)
  • Cupboard & drawers, bedroom (second floor)
  • Chest, cupboard & drawers, studyroom (second floor)

Containers without any arrows:

  • Drawers, first room, right
  • Cupboard, dining room

Conclusion: One container on the ground floor resets, the containers upstairs are safe. Before we can make any definitive conclusions there is some more testing necesarry. Can anyone else check this too? 62.131.95.7 13:48, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

So did you ever definitively find out if one or two containers in the house respawn? If so, which ones exactly? Oohhh so your saying after the quest is complete all the containers are safe then?

I mistakenly kept stuff in teh Cupboard in the dining room. Big mistake, after the quest, it is gone! All others seems okay, but this cupboard has disappeared completely.

should this be add to the page[edit]

in the manor in the lair from the quest if you lead someone down thier like a gaurd and close them in it they cannot open it — Unsigned comment by Asoep (talkcontribs) on 17 August 2011

What's the benefit from doing this? rpeh •TCE 11:24, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
you can trap guards in there if they are chasing you and you can trap npcs down there — Unsigned comment by Asoep (talkcontribs) on 17 August 2011
Yes, but why? What's the benefit? rpeh •TCE 08:57, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
you can heal yourself in there trap the guards in there so you can walk around without rasing your bounty by killing them and it is info on the mannor so it should be mentioned — Unsigned comment by Asoep (talkcontribs) at 12:44 on 18 August 2011

Items disappearing from containers[edit]

I have finished the ghost quest and have been living in the house for some time. I use the desk on the right hand side of the fireplace (facing it) to dump items when I become over encumbered and want to sell later. The last few times I have added items they have disappeared. Has anyone else had this issue? I have now started to use a different container to keep items. Also, is there a limit to how many items one container can hold? Thx! — Unsigned comment by 24.245.36.190 (talk)

When you say items disappear, do you mean one item out of many, or all of the items you put in there? There is a known bug where sometimes an item will not appear when you look in the container, but if you do a 'take all', the missing item is added into your inventory. It doesn't appear to be based on a large number of items being stored in the container - I've seen it happen with only a few items. --Gaebrial 12:12, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Intro makes it sound like everything goes away at upgrade; is that true?[edit]

The intro currently states "When the quest is completed the house is upgraded and its cells are reset; any items stored there at that time will be lost." I think this means that if you leave an item in the house, but not in a container - such as by dropping it on the floor - it will disappear after the house is upgraded. But it could also be interpreted to mean that anything you leave in the house, in a container or not, goes away after the upgrade. If someone knows for sure which it is, maybe the current statement could be clarified.

I got bit by storing things in the two containers that get removed when the house is upgraded. I stored some items in another container (the cabinet north of the entrance, that the jar falls from during the quest) that were still there after the upgrade. I didn't drop anything on the floor in the house before the upgrade, so I don't know if items like that persist. 73.3.58.200 15:59, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Visual bug on secret door[edit]

If you watch the door animation when you open it the magical seals suddenly dim, then gradually light up, when you close it they gradually fade before blinking back on when the animation ends. My guess is that the door's closed state was meant to show the seals dimmed or perhaps even entirely invisible.
