Physics Glitch[edit]

if you enter the left room, it is possible to glitch yourself through the ceiling into the upper room. i did this twice, accidentally the first time, by jumping and walking forward as on all of the rocks found in this room. even when you aren't moving, keep rapidly hitting the forward and jump buttons in succession. i used the large dark rock that reaches the ceiling slightly to the left when you enter the room. 69.139.44.135 00:25, 16 May 2008 (EDT) diver

Attributes[edit]

Are the attributes to be changed when drinking from the Cup your highest and lowest base attributes, or can they be manipulated by casting Fortify or Drain effects on oneself? Example: Your highest base attribute is Strength at 55, lowest is Personality at 35, and your Willpower is 36. . .if you raise your Personality to 40 at the time of imbibing, will your Willpower be lowered by 20 instead of Personality? 76.192.244.159 08:15, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Self tests this. Self finds that Bitter Cup increases highest attribute and reduces lowest attribute, not base attributes. Use effects as desired to manipulate which attributes will be changed. 76.192.244.159 08:16, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

I have a dream[edit]

Maybe it could be mentioned in the article that the term "Bitter Cup" is most likely a reference to the "Cup of bitterness (and hatred)" Martin Luther King spoke about in his speech "I have a dream"
The passage:
"But there is something that I must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred." — Unsigned comment by 91.39.168.4 (talk) on 29 March 2010

The two are incredibly unlikely to be related. Good grief. rpeh •TCE 15:08, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
I agree its probly not related its to educated for people to understaind. But this game is and forever will be a work of genius. So you never know if thats was there thoughts or not.
I can go on all day how the theory holds up and fits in the game but who cares it should be an easter egg just cuz it makes you think and teaches you something. After all easter eggs are just tiny jokes made by the game creator to test your wit and knowladge. Like the 3 ashes. usless in the game but it turns out they are worth more than all the gold in the game cuz they are tributes. — Unsigned comment by 98.198.148.59 (talk) at 01:53 on September 29, 2011
The original source is probably "The Bitter Cup" by James Smith, 1860. This article also references the "the cup of wrath" from the Bible (Revelation 14). This is most likely where Martin Luther King got it from. So it seems to be a well known saying/folk-lore, which the clever folks who wrote Morrowind would have been well aware of.

Moved note[edit]

  • If you decide to give her the cup, she will gobble down its contents right away and thus will not have it if you kill her.

I just did this quest again, and it makes no reference to her drinking it. I think it logical that if you worship something, you wouldnt want to destroy the only artifact you have... While in real life the most obvious reason for her not having it would be drinking, Morrowind is not real life :-D--68.60.16.174 03:50, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

There is nothing in the CS to indicate she drinks it either, it is just removed from the player's inventory, and not added to hers. --Brf 13:43, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Extra Grandmaster Lockpicks[edit]

Did this get fixed in a patch? I just finished this quest and I did not receive any extra grandmaster lockpicks. 84.107.74.174 Edited to add: On GOTY, with all the extra content installed and MCP.

Aaaand, she attacks you anyway?[edit]

I got the cup, and she attacked me anyway. Tried a calming spell, but then when you speak to her, even with the cup, she says "I see you've risen to Guardian ... disappointment." I don't see this issue listed on the page. Is it elsewhere, or did I just discover a new bug 20 years later? Noobyorkcity (talk) 03:20, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

It's listed in the Bugs section of the relevant Fighters Guild quest page. — Wolfborn(Howl) 05:44, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
