Formula for Spell Absorption[edit]

I was told that 50% Spell Absorption as a racial bonus and an additional 50% Spell Absorption as an equipment bonus does not in fact add up to 100%, but rather provides two 50% chances checked one-after-another. This entry may need to be changed. — Unsigned comment by Thwgatrostys (talkcontribs)

I've found this to be true. 100 points from two or more sources does not protect 100%. After making a few test mods, initial results point to this effect not stacking additively, but checking multiplicatively. If one has 100 points from one source, it does seem to capture 100% of the hostile spells. Further testing is obviously needed to confirm this, but for now I'm correcting these inaccuracies in the article. Lukish_ Tlk Cnt 12:04, 13 December 2008 (EST)
I tested this as well using atronarch and the necromancer's amulet. The resultant chance of absorbtion was not 75%, it was more like 62.5% which is about what would happen if they were counted sequentially instead of additively. This is opposed to the ring of equity which never failed to absorb a spell while under the effect.--69.249.124.89 06:26, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Considering that such is the case when using Spell Absorption spells/enchantments/bonuses/etc., does anyone happen to know how much Spell Absorption (applied to enchantments, for example) a player would have to equip in order to have the full 100% effect?

Unless you have a single source equal to 100% it should be obvious that it will never protect completely since each source in turn is checked against and each has a possibility of failure.
