Gripes Section for morrowind. Thought it needed one.

Croaky Voices
The Dunmer in Morrowind seem to have croaky voices. I would think this is because the volcanic ash damages their lungs and voice boxes. Any other thoughts on this? --Matthewest •T•C•E• 07:22, 6 September 2008 (EDT)
Then why aren't the slaves affected?
I think that they are just born like that, since even the dunmer in the Ascadian Isles talk like that. I wonder why alot of the Dunmer females look like Whoopi Goldberg. Jay480 09:44, 5 October 2008 (EDT)
my opinion is the the slaves are not originally from morrowind. i reckon most of them would of been kidnapped from southern vvardenfall or brought in from import shipments. (phillmorton82)
There are no ash storms on the mainland, and all the Dunmer in Mournhold still sound the same. I would also note that the females have a much less scratchy voice. You might attribute the "croakiness" to the race being changed after the betrayal at Red Mountain, but it's a stretch. Lukish_ Tlk Cnt 12:14, 21 November 2008 (EST)
Does Wiki-Morrowind need more locations and categories?
I am interested in creating more location pages for the areas of the game which have no interior cells, but are relevant to quests or are of interest in some way. A good example is the sunken ruin where one starts the Quest of Boethiah. I can see this as being both beneficial and hard to maintain. Although it would be nice to have more listings in the Shrines by Daedra category, if people start putting in things like "That cool plant" and "Another cool looking plant", so I'd want some feedback on the style we are using here.
There are little "X"s on the paper game map, and they mostly point to shipwrecks. It would be simple, but would it be worthwhile to set these up in an additional descriptive category? Or should I try my hand at writing a legend for the map and numbering each "X", leaving the sites unlinked except by the map?
I'm having a bit of trouble understanding the layout of all the locations and places pages. Where would be a good place to see the organization and style of this section? Lukish tlk cnt 08:32, 7 October 2008 (EDT)
- I'm not sure what you mean. A page on the sunken shrine may be of some help, but a search on our map finds it and directs the player to the quest page. Shipwrecks also appear on the map and have their own page. What "X"s do you mean?

- Quests by Location, Quests by Faction, Quests by NPCs, Quests A to Z... In this example, all the quests are included each different sub-category, I am proposing new categories for places so the locations may be divided in separate ways for easier searching. If one adds the category Morrowind-Places-With-Slaves, for Morrowind:Arvel Plantation which is grouped in two categories currently, they can find the locations of other slaves without searching the Morrowind:Slaves page. I already suggested "X"s from the paper game map. I can think of very few examples in which to apply new categories, but I want to know if it's against the format of this section to add stuff. It would just increase the dynamic linking of the wiki, not increase content, so its really just a question of how cluttered this could make the categories list. After a bit of searching while writing this, I found most of the categories I was looking for exist already, so maybe the article which prompted this line of questions was just improperly categorized.Lukish tlk cnt 17:07, 10 October 2008 (EDT)

- The slave places one would be very useful, yes. I can see a clear use for that one. I'm less convinced by the "X"s one - shipwrecks already have their own category, as do strongholds, which (I think) make up the other "X"s. I suppose both categories could be added to a common parent, but... would it be useful?

- I'm not opposed to the creation of new categories but I don't want to see the site overwhelmed by categories with only two or three (or even no) things in them. That's why, for instance, we haven't created all the rank categories for NPCs in the expansions.

- Actually, those strongholds are represented by little pictures of strongholds on the map. The ones you're thinking of are found in Landmarks prior to construction, or Cities & Towns after you build them, but they don't have their own dedicated category. (Do they need one? There's only 3 of them anyhow.) As far as a category for where slaves are, I can't think of what this would do that the already existant Slaves page doesn't do, except I suppose add that category to the pages, though they should all already have links to the Slaves page. Expansion Data Missing
Morrowind:Restore_Magicka gives a good example of how expansion data can unobtrusively be included in the base game information. I would love for lists of equipment and other sections to include such important and relevant info so that one does not need to search at the very least three different articles for complete listings.
Wouldn't it be possible to give those with the expansions a definitive list of base armor by body part as long as there are TR and BM tags where appropriate? I believe if we cannot produce this unified Morrowind wiki, then we could duplicate everything to create the definitive GOTY (fully patched w/ expansions) section for those with the full game. - UESPWiki:Style_Guide#Unofficial_Mods This seems to support my intentions of reducing page-clicks for people with expansions: “the primary focus of all articles should be on the game as distributed by Bethesda, including any official patches, expansions or plugins created by Bethesda.”. In case I wasn't clear when I said duplicate everything, UESPWiki:Style_Guide#Redundancy refers to Transclusions which I think would be appropriate if the first choice has too many problems. - You've misunderstood the policy. It means that namespaces such as Tribunal, Bloodmoon and Shivering can be created to support the official mods but NOT to include material from unofficial ones. It has no bearing on this discussion. If you want to include tags such as those on Morrowind:Restore Magicka, feel free. Just don't duplicate content unnecessarily - and that includes transclusions.

- Oh, I see that UESPWiki:Namespaces does make that distinction, but does that mean the effects need to be split up so BM and TR ingredient effects only appear in their respective namespace? - I don't see a need to split that page, considering there's only 3 effects added by Bloodmoon and 1 by Tribunal. (All summon spells). Making an entire page in Tribunal space just to document the 1 effect added by it just seems wasteful, and makes the information much harder to find. Even the 3 added by Bloodmoon would be a pretty skimpy page. Likewise if you look at Diseases (2 from Tribunal, 1 from Bloodmoon). There's not really much benefit to be gained by separating these pages. On the other hand, there's plenty of items added by the expansions, easily enough to warrant their own pages for such things. I do think we should make an effort to clearly indicate on those pages with expansion content mixed in which is and is not from the expansions, and admittedly the Effects page does not do this very well. Boat exit crash.

- The first thing to do is make sure that the computer you're using to run Morrowind meets the system requirements. If it does, then at this early stage in the game, the easiest solution would be to de-install and re-install Morrowind. Not the most elegant, but normally the most effective way of solving game crashes. If the problem persists, I'd bring the game back to the shop where you bought it, and see if you can get it replaced or refunded. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 12:43, 14 October 2008 (EDT)

suggestion for new section - morrowind formulas
I propose a new area to show what formulas the game engine uses to determine certain things, like spell cost. Including the effect of GMST's would help modders know how greatly their changes will effect gameplay. - We don't. The wiki records every edit and credits the appropriate person automatically on the History page. Attributions are generally not used on any wiki, including this one. (Except on talk pages, of course.) If you're posting something that someone else created, I suppose you can credit them in the Edit Summary, though you should first make sure you've got their permission to post it, or it could be considered to be plagiarism. Though in the case of formulas, you can't really credit the discovery, since the formula itself was already there, and is owned by Bethesda, not by any individual fan, regardless of how much work it took them to find it. Giving credit in the Edit Summary is generally enough as just a courtesy. --TheRealLurlock Talk 01:13, 19 November 2008 (EST)
I think we should complement the Interview with the Dark Elf with the so-called Skeleton Man Interview, which was published on a now-defunct fan site as promotional material for Morrowind. It is much more important as a lore source than the Dark Elf interview and more in line with the style and content of the finished game- as close to a definitive source on Vvardenfell as we have. The answers in the interview have been copyrighted by Bethesda but was published directly on a fan site, so it seems equivalent to the Dark Elf interview.71.244.119.102 14:05, 26 November 2008 (EST)

Xbox on XB360?
Can the Xbox version of this game be played on Xb 360? I LOVE Oblivion, have all 60 achievements (including Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine), and wanted to take a step back and try Morrowind. So, is the Xbox version compatable on Xbox 360? --Oblivion nerd 16:22, 13 December 2008 (EST)

- I've done a little bit of research on this. Morrowind IS on the offical back compat update list, I have all updates and my dashboard is the new experence but I still cant play it. Please help me figure out this problem.
I play morrowind on my HP pavilion, but I cannot play it full screen, so I play it in a window form, but the mouse cursor is messed up because when I move my mouse left, the mouse cursor moves off the window screen, so that it would click on a icon. Morrowind for the Computer

- Engine Bugs are quite common in Morrowind, and they are varied. It's best to reduce them with patches, you can download the official patches from elderscrolls.com. The unofficial patch fixes bugs in the esm, while the Morrowind Code Patch fixes more engine problems. It also helps to keep your OS and drivers up to date. Where does this info go?
So yeah, I just found the formula for deciding the chance of successfully casting a spell, but I don't know where it'd be best to put it, since there's no general magic page. Should it go under, Spells, Spell effects or the individual spell schools pages?
Btw, here's the formula (Spell's skill * 2 + Willpower / 5 + Luck / 10 - Spell cost - Sound magnitude) * (Current fatigue + 3 * Maximum Fatigue / 2) / Maximum fatigue * 2

Guidebook for Morrowind

- Well, I believe copy-pasting text from the guidebook would be a copyright breach in regards to the guidebook. The UESP specifically warns against adding copyrighted material (as can be seen just above the edit summary when editing: Any content you submit must not violate copyright.). GOTY edition patch query
The original release of Morrowind lacked a patch that made an enemy's health bar visible. For a couple of years I have been using the "sold out software" version of Morrowind that had all the latest patches, i.e. the enemy health bar thing. Recently my CD cracked down the middle so I can no longer play Morrowind, though I have bought the GOTY edition online, and currently I'm waiting for it to arrive.
My question is this - does the GOTY version have the enemy health bar patch with it?

World Information edit needed
Another link category should be added for "Containers"
There needs to be a page that lists the weight limits of all the various containers around Morrowind and pictures of each one for identification.
Here is a list I compiled of the possible weight limits I can find. If I made a mistake please correct it. This is useful when figuring out how much loot you can store away in an organized fashion.

Unable to switch windows during play
I started playing this today, and I have it set to the lowest resolution but I can't switch windows, even when pressing the windows key on my keyboard. - No-disc cracks are technically illegal, so we can't discuss them here.
- Returning to Windows while the game is still running is not supported by the game, I believe. Some people manage to do it, but it usually ends up with the game crashing or freezing. Screen resolution shouldn't affect this. --Timenn-<talk> 13:19, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

- Could someone provide a link supporting the statement that a No-CD crack is any less legal than the Morrowind Code Patch? While a No-CD crack can allow someone to play illegally it is only a mild reverse engineering of the games EXE, just like the Morrowind Code Patch. I have on a couple occasions found myself needing a No-CD patch for games made before Windows XP to get them to work, since the games would not recognize the valid retail CD that was sitting in my drive. I'm not sure that my reasoning holds true for Wiki policy or internationally, but it does seem to be something that might need clarification for users of the wiki who aren't going to be editing pages and most likely won't be reading policy pages. Regional Differences?
I just got a GOTY copy of this for PC (I was playing on XBOX before) but the only version I could find was the English European version (that is to say that the place I ordered it from sent me the EU version). While it installed on my computer no problem (it even has the construction set which is why I got it), I was wondering if there were any gameplay differences between this and the NA version that I played on XBOX? Containers decide to empty themselves...
On the xbox 360, playing the version of the game that isn't Game of the Year but it IS a "platinum hit", I have had a chest and a crate with things in them automatically empty. The items don't reset, they are just gone. at first I didn't have a problem with it because I merely lost a couple petty souls, but I just lost every propylon index.... Obviously going to a further back save file will work, but that just loses a lot of playing time and such. Is there a way to fix/prevent this??? (For reference, its the small chest in karlilahs house in balmora above the bed, and the top right crate behind tsiya's house in balmora.) Oh and they obviously worked in the past, I started using those crates/chests at like day 50 and am at day 250. Stouf761 20:11, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

- Don't use crates, chests, or anything else to store items besides overflow loot bags. Almost everyone of them will eventually 'reset', and you'll lose your items.--Ratwar 01:41, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Dark Brotherhood
This is a really annoying thing. For some reason, someone puts hits on my via the Dark Brotherhood. I just started playing this particular save-PC-I've played Morrowind before-So thank God for GodMode console command. But anyway, does anyone know why there are murderers after me? PS: I mainly play Oblivion so I'm not used to the Jounal so I kind-of figure it out as I go along. Any hely is very much appreciated!! Quest/Unique Items that do not appear.
Twice I have been playing through Morrwind GOTY ed. (xbox) and needed a Quest relative item that was not in the location it should have been. First encounter was the bone-biter bow of Sul-whatever, Neither the weapon, on its own, nor the spirit from which you are supposed to take it were in the cave at all, though everything else was there as normal including respawing skeletons. (On this particular save I had decided to master Guilds before doing much in the main quest, including the primary three, as well as the Morag Tong and most of the Temple missions) I did, thankfully have a backup save, that when entering the area on it, found both the spectre and subsequently the bow, but this save was quite old and I had not yet mastered even a single Guild so I had alot of lost progress to make up for, but at least I was still able to play though the main quests without the backdoor on that character. Recently, on the continuation of this same save, now with the main quest completed and several of the primary factions mastered again, going through the Morag Tong, attempting to collect the Webspinner Threads I've encountered a similar problem in Ald Daedroth. Though Everything seems to be in its proper place, Domba holder of a sanguine belt, is nowhere to be found, but her orc companion which holds a sanguine ring is present (and when killed does still possess the ring). I have searched through the watery floor, in hopes her corpse is merely hidden beneath, as happens occasionally, and even killing everyone, just to be sure, and still no sign of Domba or the belt. I now have several backup saves for this particular character (all more recently made than the first I backtracked with) but the only one I have not yet checked is that same old save with little accomplished. Are there any suggestions here? perhaps another place she sometimes spawn (via glitch etc...)? I know this is not a necessity and at this point Mephalas gift is pretty much useless to this character, but Im rather abit of a completionist and this is really driving me batty :(
- Well, that does seem odd. So there is an error and no quest item is appearing where it should? Odd. Here are my suggestions: Check your journal to make sure you have reached the appropriate point in the quest, load your old saves over and check them, and maybe look around to see if you accidently dropped it somewhere. Problem...
I have a little problem here. Every time I try to run Morrowind, an error message pops up saying "TES3Stream Warning: Model "Meshes/sky_night_02.nif"tex not found "Tx_Stars_Nebula_02.tga"! Continue running executable? Cancel is "Yes To All.
When I select Yes, loads of other similar errors pop up. I disabled all of my mods but nothing happened. What should I do?
EDIT: Now the game freezes when I create a new character. When I exit the room where Sellus Gravius is, the game freezes. =/ And also I reinstalled Morrowind, and tried to load an older save file. Poem in Game
Well I have put hundreds of hours into Morrowind, so it goes without saying I found some cool stuff. One of the strangest things I have discovered is a poem by an ash ghoul (or maybe zombie I don't remember). The poem is very intresting but the strange thing about it is that no where on the internet does it exist. And I no longer have my Morrowind disk to find it. Does anyone know what the poem goes like? I know a little bit of it.
In the darkest hour of midnight I fly,
when you are weeping,
my soul is sleeping.

Want to tranfer quest?
Im needing to reinstall my OS on my laptop however i dont want to lose my quest. - I think you mean you want to transfer your saved games. If so, look in the Saves subfolder of your Morrowind directory. It will probably be something like
C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Saves

The page itself hasn't been changed since 26 March 2010; it appears to be the back end that's the problem, outside the control of normal editing. Shiva7663 01:49, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry I didn't notice this discussion earlier. In any case, everything should now be fixed. The short story is that there have been some server updates going on, and until they're complete occasional problems like this may occur. --NepheleTalk 02:03, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
