DO NOT CHANGE EPONY TO EBONY[edit]

I don't know if this will work any better than the comment on the page itself, but I'm putting this note here as well just in case anybody actually checks the talk page before making changes. The spelling is "Epony" on purpose because the character's last name is "Ponius". Pretty much every edit to this page in the last 4 years has been people changing "Epony" to "Ebony" and then being reverted. I don't know how to make this any clearer to people to STOP DOING THIS. I blame Bethesda for making a bad pun that looks like a typo. --TheRealLurlock Talk 13:02, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

Would section protection be an option or not? --kiz talkemail 13:08, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
Not sure, since it's not a "section" per se, just an entry in a table. I could protect the whole page, I suppose, but that seems like a bit of an extreme measure. Mind you, most of these "corrections" are anonymous users, so semi-protection would be sufficient, but it'd also have to be done on the quest page itself, as well as any pages that link to it... I don't know, seems like an inappropriate use of the tools. Anyone have any better ideas? --TheRealLurlock Talk 13:15, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Section protection wouldn't be appropriate in this case. I think an indefinite semi-protection would suffice. elliot (talk) 13:17, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
What I'm wondering is if there's any way we can make that Quest Link template display a big red warning message instead of the actual quest description. Only way I can think of would be to make Ebony Trade an actual article rather than a simple redirect, with just a big link telling people they're on the wrong page and click here to go to Epony Trade or something like that. That would cover all pages where the Quest Link template is being used and not require any protection. A user making this kind of edit would be instantly informed of their mistake due to the big red warning message, and maybe they'd not make the edit (if it was a preview) or revert it themselves once seeing that. Only downside is we lose the advantage of having Ebony Trade as a redirect. It would just be more like a disambig page instead. --TheRealLurlock Talk 13:24, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
It happened again, I'm locking it down. If somebody can figure out a way to make that template idea I had work, we can remove the protection later, but for now, this is the best I can come up with. --TheRealLurlock Talk 06:16, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
