peaceful way of becoming Arch-Magister??

You will not receive his support to become either Hortator or Archmagister by any means short of killing him, save the possibility to peacefully become Archmagister by getting support of all the other Masters and out-voting him.

Is this right? I looked in the CS, but couldn't find any mention it.

Both the Telvanni and the Archmagister quests indicate that you have to kill him and that's certainly my experience but for now I'll mark this as a good question to see if we can get confirmation. –Rpeh^{•T•C•E•} 09:15, 5 August 2008 (EDT)

This isn't confirmation, as I've never done it this way, but I have heard that if you do all of the quests for the other masters (Auriel's Bow, Flesh Made Whole, Drake's Pride, and so on), you can talk to Aryon and get everybody to vote for you to replace Gothren. There is a peaceful way, because I know I've done it before. You get the votes, but I don't think you're allowed to kill any of the magisters, (which might need confirmation). Anyway, once you're Archmagister, all you have to do is ask to be Hortator. (this was done on the latest Morrowind patch with both expansions) --Timmeh ^Talk 22:48, 21 November 2008 (EST)

Answer: After several hours of research, I well understand the workings of all the involved quests. I could not find any loophole to become the Archmagister of House Telvanni without killing Gothren. If such a loophole exists in the unmodded game, then it should be in the glitch section along with the joining two houses bug. Lukish_ Tlk Cnt 14:23, 11 December 2008 (EST)
