Shield Enchantment with 2-handed weapon[edit]

The Note in here implies that you cannot use a shield enchantment with a two-handed weapon. This is not true. Constant Effect enchantments on a shield will still work if you equip with a two handed weapon. --Brf 14:44, 4 June 2008 (EDT)

Good spot, I amended the note. --BenouldTC 15:09, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
I had been using an Ebony Tower shield with Constant Fortify Strength and a two-handed weapon. With the two-handed weapon equipped, you still get the shield armor bonus too. --Brf 15:16, 4 June 2008 (EDT)

Use of Staff[edit]

Too bad you can't utilize your Block skill, sans shield, while wielding a staff. T'would be cool indeed. Any chance of a viable mod along these lines, or would it get too deep into the combat mechanics?

Training block[edit]

Does anyone know a quick way to train block?

p.s. Can you equip ant shield regardless of your block skill?

Sign your posts by putting four of these: ~ at the end of it. To answer your questions; a quick way of training block is to get a lot of restore health potions and armorer's hammers, a real tough shield, plenty of tough armor so you can stand there longer, and go piss off something weak like a rat. Then, stand there and let it hit you. This'll also boost the armor skill relevant to the armor you're wearing. Repairing the armor will bring increases to armorer or mercantile, depending on if you do it yourself or have someone else do so, and replenishing the potions will increase alchemy or mercantile depending if you make more or buy more. You can equip ANY shield, regardless of any of your stats or skills. 216.82.142.13 20:27, 11 June 2009 (EDT)

Fatigue[edit]

Does anyone know whether the Fatigue expended from successfully blocking is based on the weight of the shield you're using, or upon overall encumbrance? Thanks for any response. 75.62.197.225 05:40, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Probability formulae[edit]

Yet another unanswered question for the pile of them here: What's the probability of blocking successfully? And is it related to the size of shield (eg does a tower shield block better than the standard-size shield of the same style?) 32.157.229.126 07:39, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

This is totally wrong[edit]

"Blocking in Morrowind is automatic. If you have a shield equipped, you will have a chance to block attacks without having to do anything."

No. You have to actively position your equipped shield between your character and the attacker. If you are being attacked from the right side, turn so that your shield is facing your attacker and your Block skill will improve. Also, if you are being attacked from low to the ground, then angle the shield down as well. If from above, then angle the shield up. It's pretty intuitive. The weapon or attack form must hit your shield (and not your character) for Block to improve.63.131.8.59 19:09, 3 October 2012 (GMT)Golden Sinner

Blocking hand to hand attacks[edit]

Are you supposed to be able to block hand-to-hand attacks? I can see creatures and NPC:s doing it, but I have not yet blocked an NPC's attack.

At a low level of blocking you may just be unlucky. Keep in mind Morrowind basically rolls the dice every time you try and do something like block and the chance of it succeeding are largely increased by factors likely to be against you at the beginning of your playthough: the Block skill starts at 0 for most characters (I believe), your characters Agility (and Luck) may be low and that's affects how effective blocking can be and your shield is likely of low quality. I can test it out later if you like, but I'm pretty sure should work once you get you Block skill up. You could try to make a spell or potion to fortify your Block skill, which will cause it to level-up faster too. ParadoxPraxis (talk) 10:28, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

Eleidon's Ward[edit]

Is there a reason why the best shield in the game doesn't appear on the table? 71.194.207.38 20:58, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
