Mainland's geography[edit]

First off, I surprise that there is no discussion page on this, one of the provinces. What I'm curious is, is what the geography of the Isle of Summerset is like. What I do know is there is Eton Nir, a mountain near Cloudrest and the Crystal Tower. I imagine that there are small islands surrounding it like Wasten Coridale or Sunhold in that data-mined Summerset questline. I like to think that Eton Nir is filled with gorges that have veins of Sapphires or Rubies and the top of Eton Nir is grasslands. Has there been hints of Summerset's geography, I assume it looks a lot like Auridon except in different biomes, like a mountain one and forest one. --Vincentius1 (talk) 01:44, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

Name Change[edit]

I disagree with changing the name to Alinor, as there's only an example in a book calling it that. Over 150 years later in universe (Skyrim), and there are no NPCs/books calling it Alinor, but there are multiple references to Summerset Isle, (Venarus Vulpin's Journal, Summerset Shadows, M'Sharra's Diary.) The ingame description also states: "Also known as "Altmer" in their homeland of Summerset Isle.".

Camilla: "We don't sell any imports from Summerset Isle, do we, Lucan?"

Hadvar: "I'm sorry. We'll make sure your remains are returned to Summerset Isle."

I would support adding (officially called Alinor as of x), as that has what's been done for the case of Turkey on wikipedia.

While Alinor (province) isn't an incorrect name, it's certainly not a term people will come up with when searching for it. In this case I beleive we could use the Ignore all rules rule, as renaming the page, while in line with guidelines does more harm than good to the wiki's clarity and user experience.Tyrvarion (talk) 17:57, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
Should remain Summerset Isles under all circumstances Dcking20 (talk) 18:21, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
I think consistency of common Tamrielic usage has to override political accuracy in this instance. The book even states itself "They renamed the nation Alinor, [...]. Most people outside of the Aldmeri Dominion still call it Summerset Isle, either out of peevishness or ignorance." Alinor (province) would also be inaccurate, as it is unequivocally specifically not a province anymore. Alinor (nation) would probably be the most accurate. We probably want something like:
The Summerset Isles (sometimes spelled Sumurset, Summurset or Sumerset), officially named Alinor since 4E 22, is...
Enodoc (talk) 14:47, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

() I concur with the above, the name change would be less accurate considering actual usage and for searchability purposes. The name should not be changed at this time. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 17:07, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

I agree with Enodoc's proposal except for one thing. The article still refers to Summerset as a province in other locations. Is it preferable to keep it as province to match what has been a historical consensus for most of TES, or should we switch to nation? Does province even imply Imperial jurisdiction? I don't know if that is the case, as I'm fairly certain that Attrebus Mede calls Morrowind a province in the Keyes books despite the same books confirming that Morrowind was specifically separate from the Empire.
