What race is Marukh?[edit]

Interestingly, the words Marukh and Imga never appear together, perhaps because so little is written about him and his race was not determined as of the PGE. I feel like it's common knowledge though, given his views on the Altmer. A Colovian human wouldn't need to "question the validity of elven rule." (Imga come from Valenwood, but I suppose we can't assume Marukh did.) Kier-Jo of Where Were You When the Dragon Broke seems aware of his identity in referring to Marukhati as "your monkeys," and devs have referred to Marukh as "the Monkey Prophet." That has been his ephitet for years among fans, so I never realized that no source stated it outright.71.244.115.20 22:32, 17 April 2009 (EDT)Temple-Zero

Where does that Kier-Jo quote come from? It doesn't appear in the full version of WWYWTDB. Or is that the nick of one of the devs?
We've got Marukh described as "the Monkey Prophet" in our First Era timeline, but that was probably copied from TIL, which uses the same phrase.
If the only reference is a post on a forum, I don't think we can use it - even if it's one of those things that "everybody knows". –RpehTCE 01:41, 18 April 2009 (EDT)
Some TIL people found it for me. Turns out Douglas Goodall posted an early entry of WWYWTDB on the forums, and the khajiit's entry was by the author Kier Jo instead of whoever it is in the final version. So it's not just Kirkbride's view, but as in other times, the devs didn't make things clear.71.244.115.20 19:58, 18 April 2009 (EDT)
Gary Noonan also refers to Maruhk as "the Great Ape Man" and "the Great Primate", as well as the idea that his preachings were called "Monkey Truth". (source) --Gez 21:11, 18 April 2009 (EDT)
And now, four years later, we have this. The Illusion of Death Paints him in a very simian light with not a lot of doubt. Pilaf The Defiler (talk) 10:22, 17 August 2013 (GMT)

() ESO includes a list of rare works in a library, notably including "The Alessian Doctrines: Original Manuscript by the Monkey Prophet Maruhk". With that making at least two in-game, and numerous OOG, references I am finally inclined to make it 'official' that Murukh was indeed an Imga. Unless there are any objections, whenever that list is added to the wiki I will update the race here with an explanatory note. -- Hargrimm(T) 17:44, 17 February 2014 (GMT)

Keep in mind, none of those books actually appears in the game, just titles. Jeancey (talk) 17:49, 17 February 2014 (GMT)
I'm saying, yes. One of the books contains the marching chants of the Alessian order. The refrain is two lines "Man-ape, tell us./Maruhk, guide us." so clearly he is an imga. Jeancey (talk) 18:03, 17 February 2014 (GMT)
Seconded. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 18:04, 17 February 2014 (GMT)
Yeah, I'd say that clinches it. But while looking that up I noticed that the name is spelled Marukh only once in ESO texts, while Maruhk is used 20 times. This includes changing the spelling in existing texts that used to use the kh version. Seems like it is the official intent that his name be spelled Maruhk from now on. Should we change now or wait for more info from ESO? -- Hargrimm(T) 18:11, 17 February 2014 (GMT)
A redirect should suffice for the moment. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 18:16, 17 February 2014 (GMT)

Did Borgas support Marukh?[edit]

Borgas: He is never mentioned as having been a supporter of Marukh. Timeoin 02:24, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Not on that page, no, but it's in the referenced source. rpeh •TCE 10:55, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Thankyou for that Rpeh. P.s. UESP is better the Wikia pages, I just like that one because I get the chance to make some edits there :P Timeoin 04:14, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
There's still plenty to be done here. You should take the more challenging task instead of trying to fix the unfixable. rpeh •TCE 08:02, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
Generally, its pretty good :) And, what I'm best at is lots of little tiny edits. Especially since the only two games that I can access (Im on too modern a computer, sadly) - are Morrowind and Oblivion). Besides - I like the ES one because I dont have to think about my edits - its clear that theres a lot to improve :P Timeoin 10:29, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
