Murkmire Q&A[edit]

While this page has been altered to incorporate the reference to the Dreamsleeve in the latest Loremaster's Archive, the italicized section from which it is drawn is seemingly not intended to be considered in-game lore as it deals to and focuses on Lawrence Schick, who is not a denizen of Tamriel nor a character in the Elder Scrolls series. As such, it seems to be separate from the main part of the Loremaster's Archive. — J. J. Fullerton talk﴿ 02:50, 26 October 2018 (UTC)

I think it's fine as it is. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 02:58, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
I had the same concern as Fullerton on Discord, in the sense that it was of course a tongue-and-cheek way of introducing the LA. Schick isn't an actual person in the universe, but the concept may still be valid. I think at least something about the transmission from the new LA belongs on the page.
Maybe frame it around being a form of long-distance communication in general, as we know past LA questions have used the Dreamsleeve to "send" their letter to host of the LA that week. This would cover those instances: "Dreamsleeve "transmission" is a method of communication which has been used to contact those across vast distances." --Jimeee (talk) 08:46, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
I agree this is a better wording. I changed it on the page but left the "has been mentioned" part because it sounds a bit odd to not say it now that the sentence is in the notes. —Dillonn241 (talk) 09:28, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
Current version looks good to me. I had similar concerns about its inclusion but it's certainly worth noting. —Legoless (talk) 13:23, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
I agree with the current wording. I believe this resolves my previous concerns. — J. J. Fullerton talk﴿ 06:19, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

Soul recycler[edit]

  • Some influential unofficial fan discussions have characterized the Dreamsleeve as a process related to the cycle of death and rebirth, whereby souls are recycled within the Mundus.{{ref|group=UOL|[https://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/forum_archives/Concerning_the_Dreamsleeve.html Bethesda Softworks Forums archive, "Concerning the Dreamsleeve" - The Imperial Library]}}

This note was removed due to the reference not being a developer source and therefore not qualifying as UOL. I originally added the note to explain the common fan (mis)conception of what the Dreamsleeve is, and to highlight that this "soul recycling" function is a fanmade theory.

Per our lorespace guidelines, the Notes section is the appropriate place to add relevant real-world information. In my opinion, it is better to explain where the soul recycling stuff comes from rather than exclude it from the page entirely. I believe it's important information to note considering how widespread this theory has become. See Lore:Welwa for a similar example of where it is appropriate to note fanmade information.

As an aside, does anyone know if this theory has leaked into any actual developer posts? I wasn't able to find any when I added this note initially. —Legoless (talk) 15:12, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

While I recognize the usefulness of clarifying the misconception, I don't believe it is appropriate for the page. I agree that the source doesn't qualify as UOL and I think the precedent of disputing misconceptions could be carried over to other pages, notably Lore:Thalmor and Lore:The Towers, where I think the practice's flaws would be most noticeable. The only way this sort of mention should even make it on the lorepage is if its clarification that popular "interpretation x" of this UOL-heavy thing is 100% not canon. The original note was written in a way that suggested "interpretation x" is just another valid (albeit unofficial) interpretation - so it just confused that matter, and also leans way into c0da territory. Best not to get into that mess because notes sections end up looking like firefighting anything teslore vomits outs.--Jimeee (talk) 18:25, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
