Rationale for creating this page[edit]

While messing around, I discovered the page Lore:Ancestors. It's a two-paragraph article with no sources that hasn't been updated in over a year, and I think most of us would agree that "Ancestors" is just too vague a topic to be useful. And yet, it made me realize there was as yet no lore page about Ancestor Worship in general.
Ancestor Worship is a concept which has appeared repeatedly in various cultures across Tamriel, not just the Dunmer. Even within specific culture's lore pages (looking at you, Dunmer) there isn't always a straightforward summary of it. Therefore, I've tried to create as complete a summary of the topic as I could, and tried to be true to what that original page wanted to represent.
All that said, this is my first time creating a lore page. As far as I know, I may have inadvertently broken some rule or violated some community standards. I'm hoping maybe someone can come and take a look before I go formatting and adding images to this page? If I've done something wrong, please let me know! Its very long so I'll have to still read through all of it, but from what I've skimmed through overall it looks very good for a first-time lore page. For now my suggestion would be to have moved Lore:Ancestors to Lore:Ancestor Worship instead of making a new article, considering the Ancestors page has an old edit history going back 13 years, but I guess that can still be fixed The Rim of the Sky (talk) 08:19, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
Would it be possible to change the title of the original page in that case? I assume so, but I couldn't figure out how. Like I said, I feel that the title "Ancestors" is very vague and unhelpful. Whose ancestors? How far back before they're considered ancestors? Do we list specific ancestors? Is it a history or a culture page? Limiting the scope to "Ancestor Worship" provides something much more useful and concrete.Speedboosttorchic (talk) 09:24, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
Don't know who made the change, but it appears Lore:Ancestors now redirects to this page. I think we can assume this is tact approval? Speedboosttorchic (talk) 16:53, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Dunmer Family Shrines[edit]

That's a very cool article, thank you for doing all the research and writing it. =) I hope, it's ok to nitpick and mention that a Dunmer family's shrine has a special name, it's called the Waiting Door. In an autobiographical account by the same name, it is also described what said family relics are. Apparently, they can be very simple objects, to which the deceased had a strong personal connection, such as the favourite lure of a passionate hobby fisherman.

To not throw in critic without a suggestion for rephrasing: [...] each family kept a family shrine, the Waiting Door, where family relics are venerated. The shrine's size could vary from a simple alcove to a whole room, depending on the family's wealth, while the relics themselves consisted of items that once belonged to the revered ancestors. No need for apology, this is a wiki afterall!
I've added the source and the name, though I didn't use the same wording. I just felt that it was a bit more concise. If you think its not complete, go ahead and change it.

Should this page be classified under "Gods?"[edit]

I put it under "Lore:History" because that was how the old "Lore:Ancestors" page was classified. The more I think about it now, maybe it should be in the "gods" category? It's not about any specific god, but it is a kind of religion.Speedboosttorchic (talk) 20:23, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
