Sword of Jyggalag
"He doesn't even carry a cane! More the giant, bone-cleaving sword type of Prince."Sheogorath[1]

The Sword of Jyggalag is a Daedric artifact created by Jyggalag, the Prince of Order. It takes the form of a giant unenchanted claymore made of a silver crystalline material, similar to the longswords wielded by the Knights of Order. It has been compared to the Staff of Sheogorath,[1] although it is unknown if the sword holds as much symbolic power.

The sword was originally wielded by Jyggalag himself. Despite his absence and obscurity, replicas of the sword were in existence circa 2E 582.[2] During the Greymarch of 3E 433, Jyggalag used the sword in his final assault on the Palace of Sheogorath, where he was defeated by Sheogorath's mortal Champion. Free of his curse, Jyggalag departed the realm to roam the voids of Oblivion, and his sword was placed in the palace's throne room as a trophy.[3]

In an uncertain time, Sheogorath attempted to suppress all memories of Jyggalag, and destroyed all traces of him, save for his librarian Dyus and the Sword of Jyggalag, which was lost to him.[4] In order to force an audience with Sheogorath, the Dunmer Talym Rend, under the guidance of Dyus, was directed to the last remnant of Jyggalag, a surviving Obelisk of Order. There Talym defeated the remnants of order, and recovered the Sword of Jyggalag.[5] The sword managed to give him an audience with Sheogorath.[6]

Notes[edit]

  • Dyus's dialogue in Oblivion's expansion, Shivering Isles, states that the Champion of Cyrodiil is the first person he has seen since he was first confined in Knifepoint Hollow, suggesting that Talym's journey, and retrieval of the Sword of Jyggalag, took place after the events of Shivering Isles.
