Mabrigash Tribe[edit]

The Mabrigash Tribe is an Ashlander tribe that lives in the Vale of the Ghost Snake, in the Deshaan region of mainland Morrowind. The tribe is predominantly female, and worships an entity known as the Ghost Snake. Members of the tribe are required to follow the Coiled Path as a coming of age ritual, by walking through the treacherous swamps of the Vale while avoiding the giant snakes and the angry ghosts of those who failed. Unlike other Ashlander tribes, they are led by a Farseer rather than a wise woman. The Mabrigash were traditionally xenophobic and isolated, refusing contact with the outside world.

In 2E 582, a Hlaalu trading caravan attempted to make contact with the tribe to trade for snake skin. The Hlaalu envoy, Raston Vendil, managed to insult the entire tribe with his lack of etiquette and was taken prisoner. The Mabrigash implored the Ghost Snake for advice, but the spirit insisted that the choice was theirs: accept trade with the outside world, or remain isolated. It is unknown which path the tribe took, but the contact with the traders had irreversibly changed them.

By 3E 427, the term mabrigash had come to define a renegade wise woman who had forsaken tradition to master the dark arts and become a witch-warrior. They were known to obtain their power by charming a man and draining him of his vital essence, and could manifest their power as a ghost snake which would paralyze and drain their victims. These witch-warriors were common on the island of Vvardenfell, but it is unknown how they relate to the tribe of the Vale.

Mages Guild[edit]

The Mages Guild, also known as the Guild of Mages, was a professional organization, once located throughout Tamriel, that was dedicated to the study and application of magicka and alchemy.

The Mages Guild was led by an Arch-Mage, and guided by the Council of Mages, made up of six Archmagisters (one of them the Arch-Mage). By the Third Era, the Arch-Mage and the Council of Mages were headquartered at the guild's Arcane University in the Imperial City. The Council decided important Guild policies, such as its policy on the use of Necromancy and also administered recruitment, sale of spells in each local Guild Hall, and the enforcement of Guild law. The rules of the Guild varied from location to location, some differences more drastic than others. In addition, Guild Halls existed in most cities in Tamriel, each of which was run by a local Guild Magister (alternatively known as a Hall Magister). Below him were the Master of Incunabula (alternatively called the High Incunabulist) and the Master at Arms. The Master of Incunabula had a counsel of two, the Master of Academia and the Master of the Scrye. The Master at Arms also had a counsel, the Master of Initiates and the Palatinus (the leader of the local chapter of the Order of the Lamp).

Its charter from the Emperor specified that the guild must provide magic services to the public. Anyone could purchase potions, alchemical ingredients, magical items, and a selection of standard spells from the guild. However, training, goods, and services were cheaper for members, and the guild stewards were sometimes able to provide members with work. Furthermore, exclusive services such as spellmaking and enchanting, deemed potentially dangerous to the public at large, were only made available to higher-ranked guild members in good standing.

Maran Knights[edit]

The Maran Knights are warriors who have dedicated their swords to the Mother Goddess, Mara. They are sworn to protect her cause and Benevolences across Tamriel. While Mara represents love and peace, She and Her Benevolence recognize that, as hypocritical as it sounds, military strength is often needed to beget this peace. Thus, the Maran Knights are a controversial knightly order. Some clerics within the Temple would prefer that the knights disband, but they are in the minority, and most citizens respect the knight's skill and loyalty.

Merethic Society[edit]

The Merethic Society was a loose group of adventurers who specialized in collecting antiques and historical relics. Named after the Merethic Era—the legendary age between the creation of Nirn and the start of the First Era—the society's mandate compelled them to go to great lengths in order to collect and preserve history. This included trading for items on the black market or procuring relics directly from ruins. They generally operated as inconspicuously as possible, as many governments didn't condone their work.

Every piece the society admits into their collection must have aesthetic or historic significance, and elevate the prestige of the collection as a whole. During the Interregnum, the society re-purposed an Ayleid ruin named Rulanyil's Fall to serve as a museum where the society could display their various historical relics to the general public. This included relics from Dwemer, Ayleid, Yokudan, Nedic, Argonian and Altmer civilizations.


Mercenary Guild[edit]

The Mercenary Guild is a small guild led by Vychamp, its self-styled leader. The guild had considerable sway over the Mages Guild some time before the Warp in the West, and mages who wished to rise in rank needed to pledge fealty to Vychamp.[1]

Montalion is one of the vampire bloodlines of the Iliac Bay area.

Moon Hunter Pack[edit]

The Moon Hunter Pack was a werewolf pack that dwelled inside Moon Hunter Keep around 2E 583, the former garrison of the Werewolf hunting organization the Order of the Silver Dawn. Many werewolves rushed to join the pack for safety in numbers after hearing tales of the pack defeating the Silver Dawn and as a result, it became the biggest werewolf pack Tamriel has ever seen.

It was led by Vykosa, the first werewolf who could bend the will of werewolves, and she recruited both the willing and unwilling. Her pack had three known kinds of Werewolves. The first is the common Werewolf. The second is the Sable Man-Beast. Not much is known about them but their werewolf appearance is beast-like even while in a humanoid form. and are observed to be more intelligent and less primal and are able to cast magic and use weaponry. The third are Werewolf Behemoths which is an experimental werewolf form created by Vykosa's Archivist Ernarde which grants them amplified strength and size and are unstoppable warriors, should they survive the process.

Vykosa plotted to use her pack to take over Nirn, exact revenge on Hircine, and take down anyone that stood in her way. The Moon Hunter Pack was stopped and Vykosa's plot was foiled in 2E 583 by the Undaunted, who entered Moon Hunter Keep and killed them.

Moot[edit]

The Moot is a board of representatives, one from each Hold in Skyrim, which is convened upon the death of the High King of Skyrim to choose the successor from any qualified members of the royal family.

In 1E 369, the Skyrim War of Succession began after the death of King Borgas. Imperial historians attribute the war to the Moot's failure to appoint "the obvious and capable" Jarl Hanse of Winterhold. The war, which lasted over 50 years and shrunk Skyrim's empire considerably, ended with the Pact of Chieftains, who dictated that the Moot only be convened when the High King died without direct heirs. The Moot served in this limited role well, and was only called upon three times until at least the late Second Era.

By the late Third Era the Moot still gathered to recognize the new High King, but more as a formality and theatrics. This was due to Skyrim's capital becoming the city most directly influenced by Imperial culture and politics, meaning the Jarl of Solitude typically served as High King without dispute. This was true up until the reign of High King Torygg in the early Fourth Era..

The Moot can reconvene during a living High King's reign if he breaks some taboo which makes the Jarls of Skyrim lose confidence in him, such as refusing a challenge made in the old traditions.

Morag Tong[edit]

The Morag Tong is an ancient guild of assassins headquartered in Morrowind, celebrating murder in the name of Mephala. They have been active since at least the First Era, and their targets have included multiple rulers of Tamriel, high-ranking Dunmer nobility, and countless others. The Morag Tong is unique in its sanctioned status under the Morrowind government to perform legal executions, bound under contracts called 'writs', although extralegal 'gray writs' are rumored to exist.

Mythic Dawn[edit]

The Mythic Dawn was a secret cult that worshipped the Prince of Destruction, Mehrunes Dagon, and carried out an assassination plot which brought about the Oblivion Crisis and thus the end of the Third Era. Emperor Uriel Septim VII and his heirs were slain as part of an attempt to lead a Daedric invasion of Tamriel. The Mythic Dawn's leader was Mankar Camoran, whose son Raven and daughter Ruma were his key lieutenants; of which all three were slain in 3E 433 by the Champion of Cyrodiil. The Mythic Dawn had many sleeper agents posing as regular townsfolk scattered throughout Tamriel, as well as a shrine to Mehrunes Dagon hidden in a cavern near Lake Arrius that served as their base. After the remnants of the Mythic Dawn were killed, Mehrunes Dagon's artifact Mehrunes' Razor was broken into three pieces. These pieces were hidden by several families, but were purportedly reunited in Skyrim during the Stormcloak Rebellion. A museum dedicated to the Mythic Dawn opened in Dawnstar in 4E 201.
