Respawning bug[edit]

Met for the first time, he became hostile so killed him. Later I met him again, fully reset with dialogue, writing, etc. I guess this is a bug. 85.66.211.226 05:36, 15 April 2013 (GMT)

Not really - most random encounter NPCs can be met more than once, even if they're killed the first time. You've probably killed the same bandits, forsworn, reavers, etc. hundreds of times. This isn't any different really. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 12:31, 15 April 2013 (GMT)
It is different as in he's a "named" NPC and a "quest giver". I don't remember seeing any such special NPC's respawning after they die. But there are numerous respawning bugs in Dragonborn, I think this is just one of them. 85.66.211.226 21:03, 16 April 2013 (GMT)
He's not named, he's a generic NPC that starts a radiant quest. Respawning doesn't seem like a bug at all. —Legoless (talk) 00:08, 17 April 2013 (GMT)
I killed him once and I've met him again, telling me about a different black book. It's a good thing, besides nothing says he has to be the same madman. — Unsigned comment by 80.200.123.193 (talk) at 16:19 on 29 May 2013‎

Book already found[edit]

Second madman I met told me about book I had already found - the same one first madman told me about, the one in Tel Mithryn. Since there is no book anymore, the quest cannot be completed. Weathereye (talk) 21:13, 14 June 2013 (GMT)

This is already noted on the quest page as a confirmed bug. If you are on PC, you can type SetStage DLC2WE06 200 in the console to clear the quest and remove the entry from your quest log. No known workaround is documented for Xbox or PS yet. — ABCface 22:43, 14 June 2013 (GMT)
