Bug[edit]

I've just run into a bug with this quest on XBox, Experimental Subject (B). He cast the spell on me, and the conversation reaches the end, but my sight hasn't come back- leaving me with a black screen. Text does come up, such as people talking, tooltips such as "canis root- pickup (A)", or the menu screens. Waiting does not fix the issue, whether real time or using the in-game mechanic, and I can't see to walk toward the float column to see if zoning would fix the issue (I could be stuck behind a table and not even know it). Suggestions to regain my sight would be appreciated, though being on XBox, console commands are out. — Unsigned comment by 96.240.128.211 (talk) at 16:54 on 11 February 2014‎

Have you tried reloading a previous save? --Nocte|Chat|Look 22:14, 11 February 2014 (GMT)
Yes, I have reloaded a previous save, and continued with my game. This issue just keeps happening when I ask to help with his research, though, and it's a quest I currently cannot complete because of this bug. I also have the current patch, and took off my overcharged enchanted armor during one try just to make sure it wasn't interfering with anything. I noticed that this quest doesn't currently have any bugs marked for it, so if I don't get any suggestions that work, I think it ought to be added. — Unsigned comment by 96.240.128.211 (talk) at 22:27 on 11 February 2014‎
I will add it to the page as an unverified bug. --Nocte|Chat|Look 22:40, 11 February 2014 (GMT)

Another bug.[edit]

Neloth sometimes mentions that it was interesting to watch tentacles grow out of my eyes, yet I have never done this quest. And so far, I haven't been able to start it.74.83.124.115 07:06, 7 April 2014 (GMT)

Moved from article[edit]

This quest can be completed before starting the main Dragonborn quest line. One of the conditions to make this quest available is "the quest Dragonborn is not active".

Is this really noteworthy? Even if it's possible to do this, we don't normally add notes to each side quest article saying that it's possible to complete them before starting the main questline. Zul se onikaanLaan tinvaak 14:24, 16 July 2014 (GMT)

It might not be noteworthy in itself, but it might require us to change the prerequisite entry, as it is contradicted. The prerequisites are at the moment stated as "Completion of main Dragonborn quest and Azra's Staffs". —MortenOSlash (talk) 05:44, 17 July 2014 (GMT)

Completed without starting the main Dragonborn quest line[edit]

On PC I confirm that this quest (and all Tel Mithryn quests, except Lost Knowledge) can be completed without starting the main Dragonborn quest line. Travel to Solstheim before meeting the cultists. Neloth will be inside his tower, and all Tel Mithryn quests, except Lost Knowledge are available.

The dialogue option for this quest will be shown when Neloth can give radiant quests (GetGlobalValue DLC2PreventNelothRadiant returns 0).

The prerequisites to start the quest are (all conditions passed at the same time):

  • the quest Reluctant Steward is not at stage 100;
  • the quest Reluctant Steward is not at stage 210;
  • the quest Dragonborn is not running (has not start or is completed - so this quest can become available when The Temple of Miraak starts);
  • the quest Experimental Subject (B) has not run (GetGlobalValue DLC2TT4bRun returns 0);
  • the quest Azra's Staffs was completed at least once;
  • the stage of the quest Reluctant Steward is less than 400 OR the stage of the quest Briarheart Necropsy is greater than or equal to 100.
