Random Dungeon Note[edit]

I noticed that this page has had similar random dungeon notes added, edited, and removed multiple times. I don't know anything about Daggerfall, having never played myself, but perhaps those editors who have input on this should try to discuss this here so we can avoid any sort of edit warring. Here's the edits which seem most relevant to this particular note.

[1] This quest contains a random dungeon, sometimes random dungeons get buggy, if you got stuck try this.

[2] A part of this quest takes place in a random dungeon on the Isle of Balfiera. If you get stuck in this random dungeon try this, but only if you didn't have success in finding the dust on a normal dungeon crawl.

[3] The dungeon the mummy can be found is defined as a random dungeon of a certain type. However since The Isle of Balfiera has only one dungeon of this type, the dungeon will always be the Masoleum of Darkivaron.

[4] A part of this quest takes place in a random dungeon. If you get stuck try this, but only if you got stuck because of a bug.

[5] (Second part removed)

[6] The dungeon the mummy can be found is defined as a random dungeon of a certain type. However there is a very high chance that this dungeon will be The Masoleum of Darkivaron.

[7] A part of this quest takes place in a random dungeon. If you get stuck try this, but only if you got stuck because of a bug.

Just some quick comments here, I've wanted to make some technical articles on Daggerfall for some time but don't know where or how to start. Anyway here is some info perhaps useful for some people looking for answers.
  • Random in general means: quest-code says to game-engine, pick a random location or random location of a certain type, depending on the quest-code.
  • Game Engine is not that clever and processes this random location depending on the entries in the MAPS.BSA file.and depending on the number of locations you have already discovered in the current region.
This may result in a "quasi-fixed" location although the quest code says random location. The perfect example for this is Castle Necromoghan or the two dungeons in Lhotun's quest. This can also occur with the "random dungeon" in this or any other quest.--PLRDLF (talk) 22:51, 23 December 2012 (GMT)

Dungeon location does not show up[edit]

Of all the times for this bug to hit. When I was doing this quest, Gortwog pointed me to a dungeon called "The Cathedral of Jubith" which was supposed to be on the Isle of Balfiera. However, that location did not appear on my map, even though according to the wiki it's one of the dungeon locations in that province. I tried reloading an earlier save to see if he would point me to a different dungeon, to no avail. In the end, I had to resort to using the Ctrl + F1 cheat to show all the locations (after remapping DOSBox of course) just to find this one dungeon and avoid a broken main quest. From my own experience, I was sometimes sent to "[characterName]'s House" by the prince of Sentinel (Prince Lhotun?). This was the "find my brother's remains" quest. I would ask people "Where is Fred's house?" and they would mark it on my map, but I just still couldn't find it. Then I noticed there was a new dungeon on my map. It appears there is also the possibility of a dungeon name corruption in other places. I really should load things up, install things, and offer screen-shots. --Uniblab (talk) 07:55, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
