Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Art House[edit]

Speak to the quest giver, who says:

"One of the more important functions of the House of Dibella is the preservation of great works of art. We have scouts all over Tamriel who look for rare and beautiful pieces. Are you available to retrieve one such masterpiece? It is not far from here, and we will gladly pay you (random gold) gold pieces for it."

or

"In over four thousand years of high civilization in Tamriel, the House of Dibella has worked tirelessly to save and preserve objects of antiquity and artistry from ruin at the avaricious and uncouth hands of time. We have developed a sophisticated network of archaeologists, dealers, and couriers who are goodly paid to procure art for the house. Would you assist in one such enterprise, (player's first name)?"

Accept[edit]

The quest giver goes on:

"Oh marvelous. Now, the procurer of this particular work is a rather funny little (contact's description) named (contact's name). What (he/she) has found is apparently so rare and wondrous, (he/she) fears bandits will rob (him/her) before (he/she) gets to our House. I do not know how dangerous it is, but if you would go to (building) in (town) and get the artifact from (him/her), I would be most appreciative. Time is of the essense [sic], for (he/she) says that (he/she) will abandon the artifact if someone is not there to take it in (time limit) days. Meanwhilst, I will expect you back here in (time limit) days. Fare thee well and may Dibella lighten thy load."

Decline[edit]

The quest giver answers:

"Alas, it saddens me that time is considered too precious to spend on that most rare of all pleasures, true beauty."

Priceless Objects[edit]

Your paranoid contact is in the corner, hiding among the other tavern patrons

Travel to the town named by the quest giver. Ask around to locate your contact's building, and enter it. Depending on the type of building, the door may be locked; come prepared to pick or otherwise bypass the lock. Meet and talk to your contact, who says:

"By Dibella, I've been a nervous wreck waitin' for you to show up. Here's the icon -- I'm glad to be rid of it. I can feel every cuthroat's [sic] eyes on on it. You better get back to the House before they think you ran off with it."

With the scarab now in your possession, return to the Temple and deliver it to the quest giver for your reward. You will not encounter any enemies due to this quest.

Reward[edit]

Upon your return with the scarab, the quest giver says:

"It's beautiful! See how the symmetrical lines, the stylized figures, the delicate folds and ornamentation... Oh, (player's first name), what a gift you've given us with this icon. Your (random gold) gold pieces is certainly the least we can offer. Dibella bless you."

Notes[edit]

  • This quest is only available for members of the House of Dibella.
  • If you keep the scarab, it will remain in your inventory and won't vanish once the quest is over, as is usually the case for quest items.

Additional Dialogue[edit]

If you ask an NPC about your contact, you may be told:

  • "(Contact's name) is a common archaeologist-adventurer who works for the House of Dibella."
  • "That (contact's description) over in (building)? Just some kind of thief or mercenary."

If you ask an NPC about the scarab, you may hear:

  • "It's a fake, I bet. But the House probably won't know the difference."
  • "A forgery, in all probability. But very pretty, nevertheless."

After you have accepted this quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

  • "That quivering (contact's description) is really annoying with (his/her) conspiracy theories."
  • "I wonder if that (contact's description) actually has something worth stealing or not."

If you fail the quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

  • "The House of Dibella acts as if losing that icon were the end of the world."
  • "The House is so trusting, no wonder that (player's race) mercenary took advantage of them."

If you successfully complete the quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

  • "After all those rumors, I hear that icon was just a forgery anyhow."
  • "Wonder whether the House of Dibella is going to show the icon or just store it."

If you successfully complete the quest, the quest giver may later greet you with:

  • "What can I do for the (player's race) who brought us the lovely icon?"

If you failed the quest, the quest giver will greet you with:

  • "When you failed art, you failed the House, (player's first name). Begone!"
