Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Damnable tavern! Damnable owner![edit]

You can start this quest either by speaking to Bentior, the publican of The Restful Watchman, about any trouble he's been having lately, or by bumping into Cerendil on the streets of Bruma and listening to his complaints. The pretentious High Elves ended up in the downtown tavern by mistake, and was horrified by the depravity that he saw there. He is now determined to bring forth charges against the inn to the city watch and have it shut down.

Bentior is not too pleased about this, and will ask you to talk Cerendil out of it. Suggesting this straight up won't get you anywhere - you'll have to indulge Cerendil's wishes and bring the guard captain his memory-gem, which contains a recording of the fateful evening. Track down the captain and click on the gem in your inventory to start the recording. It turns out the patrons of the Watchman decided to get rid of Cerendil by having a lizard girl perform a "salacious display" based on the infamous play, The Lusty Argonian Maid.

The captain will politely listen and then inform you that there isn't anything in the recording that he could use to press charges. Bring the bad news back to Cerendil and he will storm off in a fury, leaving Bruma and Cyrodiil behind him. Pay a visit to Bentior at the Watchman, and he will reward your efforts with a second memory-gem that Cerendil dropped during his visit to the inn and some leveled gold:

Levels Reward
1–9 250
10–19 400
20–29 500
30–39 600
40+ 750

Notes[edit]

  • Even if you started the quest by speaking to Cerendil, after your conversation with Adius you'll still be able to talk to Bentior and collect your reward.
  • In the event that Adius Vilius is taken by the Thalmor during Service Rewarded you still be able to both start or finish this quest (in case you had not spoken to Adius yet). In both cases you will be directed to Ereia Snow-Fist, even when Garceus Avoci should nominally be the new guard captain.

Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage CYRBrumaFF09 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest CYRBrumaFF09.
