The servers for the Elder Scrolls game Blades will be permanently shut down on June 30, 2026. In-game purchases were disabled alongside yesterday's announcement, and store prices have been reduced to 1 gem or 1 sigil. Alongside a one-time gift of both currencies, store purchases are now effectively free while the game remains online. Blades first launched as an early access mobile game in March 2019. It has not received any content updates since 2022. For now, the game remains available to download for free on Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch. The planned PC and VR versions were never released. This will be the second Elder Scrolls game to become lost media, following the shutdown of the card game The Elder Scrolls: Legends in January 2025. Blades follows a growing trend of live-service shutdowns, where games vanish entirely once servers go offline. This has prompted backlash from preservation efforts such as Stop Killing Games, which argues consumers should retain access to what they've paid for. When Blades shuts down, the only remaining live-service Elder Scrolls games will be ESO and Castles. If you'd like to help document the game before it is too late, you can help the UESPWiki by contributing to the Blades Namespace Completion Project. In particular, we have a list of pages which are still missing in-game screenshots. ZeniMax have released a stream discussing some of the changes coming to ESO in Update 50. The stream focused on various player experience improvements. Some of the changes will include: Motif Sourcing Improvements: motifs in the Crown Store now tell you where to obtain motifs in-game without paying Crowns for them. Exemplary Deconstruction: exemplary items can now be deconstructed. Vampire + Werewolf Bite Quests: Shrines of Molag Bal renamed to Shrines of Lamae Bal, alongside related quest dialogue. This was a lore mistake brought up on the forums and ZOS had promised to fix. You can now flirt with the vampire and werewolf NPCs. The Priest of Arkay cure is now zero gold to match the zero Crown cost. The Crown Store cure may be eventually removed, but will be kept for now. Transmute Stations: Now found in Mages Guilds across Tamriel in capital cities, reskinned to not look Clockwork/Dwemeri. Guild Mail: Guild Leader (and ranks with perms) can send mail to guild members via the guild interface based on individual ranks or everyone, with a 14-day expiration duration and a max of 5 guild mails that can be sent at once. New Golden Pursuit for newer players. They also briefly touched on plans for ESO's eventual crossplay update. The challenges for crossplay are being carefully weighed, with some issues like how to handle the economy being major issues that need to be explored before it releases. As such, crossplay will not be available until at least next year. We are very saddened to learn of the passing of Camelworks. He did a lot to spread love of The Elder Scrolls and its lore throughout the community, and all of our interactions with him were extremely positive. Although I only had a few direct interactions with him, he without a question was willing to assist us with our own projects to the most of his ability. We wish the best for his friends and family. His family are asking to share your fond memories of him, and we hope that you do. The attached image is from the Gamer Talent announcement of his passing. Marilyn Wasserman, a Council of Wisdom member and the namesake of the Goddess Mara, passed away on 5th January. She was a volunteer QA tester and the author of some of the instrumental texts that made The Elder Scrolls franchise, such as the Daggerfall books The Real Barenziah, Biography of Queen Barenziah, and King Edward. She was a founding pillar of The Elder Scrolls mythology and we send our condolences to her family. We've released our look back at 2025. That was our 30th anniversary, and we're looking forward to even more! Inside this retrospective we take a look at what you have all been enjoying from our site, which in this case was mainly our old Oblivion pages for some reason. We also talked about our ongoing war with bots to bring you site stability. That battle has been heating up, so you may want to read up on what is happening. We also took some time to look back. One of the biggest news story out of our site this year was developing an NPC for The Elder Scrolls VI. The cause for that charity campaign was to honor the legacy of one of the biggest contributors to the Elder Scrolls community, Loranna Pyrel. Over the course of the last year, we sadly lost many more important people to Elder Scrolls, including even the Father of the Elder Scrolls himself, Julian LeFay. This year we included a memorial section to honor the people who helped make The Elder Scrolls that passed away in 2025. There are other important check points on our journey over the last year, including us beginning to host The Independent Fallout Wiki (a team we're very honored to want to partner with us), which we hope you enjoy reading about. Above all else, we want to thank you for choosing us to be your source for The Elder Scrolls since 1995. \u2014The UESPWiki Jim Ward, the talented voice actor and radio personality who voiced Mannimarco in The Elder Scrolls Online main quest, has passed away this morning at the age of 66. He previously retired in 2021 due to health issues, as he was diagnosed with both COVID-19 and Alzheimer's, leaving him unable to continue voice acting. He resided at the Silverado Beverly Place Memory Care Community in Los Angeles, CA for the remainder of his life. His passing was announced by former radio colleague Stephanie Miller, who received an email from his wife about the news. We send our condolences to his family and all the fans who enjoyed his work \ud83d\udd6f\ufe0f Ward had roles in other Bethesda games such as Dr. Klein in Fallout: New Vegas and Old Longfellow in Fallout 4. He was also known for his roles in many cartoons and games from the 2000s, such as Doug Dimmadome & Chet Ubetcha in The Fairly OddParents, Captain Qwark in the Ratchet & Clank franchise, Perceptor in the Transformers: War for Cybertron games, Professor X in Wolverine and the X-Men, and Diamondhead & XLR8 in Ben 10. The Anniversary Edition upgrade for Skyrim is now available on the Nintendo Switch 2, complete with a reveal trailer featuring beloved Skyrim grandma Shirley Curry. This version includes the three official expansions (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn), all Creation Club content, and enhanced resolution, improved load times, and optimized performance (as compared to Nintendo Switch) that take full advantage of the Nintendo Switch 2's advanced hardware. Owners of the Anniversary Edition on the original Nintendo Switch can download the game for free on Nintendo Switch 2, while owners of the base edition on the original Nintendo Switch can purchase the \"Anniversary Upgrade\" to then download the game on Nintendo Switch 2. The Battle for the Writhing Wall event for ESO's Seasons of the Worm Cult story has officially begun as of today, and will continue until the Writhing Wall is destroyed. All players of the game can help contribute to progression for the event, but only 2025 Content Pass owners can complete related content on Solstice. Starting on October 13, visit Skordo the Knife at the Stirk Fellowship Camp or the Sunport Rampart Camp to sign up and do your part in the war against the Worm Cult. The Battle for the Writhing Wall event must progress through three unique themed stages before you can bring down the wall and enter Eastern Solstice. Together with our friends at The Imperial Library, we at UESP had the incredible opportunity to meet with Bethesda to design a character for The Elder Scrolls VI. Honestly, many of us went into the meeting pretty nervous and unsure of what to expect, but now we're all extremely excited for what's in store. Chip Theory Games' board game The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era is getting a set of five new expansions, referred to collectively as \"Heroes of Tamriel\"! Looks like Deslandra is setting her eyes on Elsweyr and Summerset. The crowdfunding campaign is going to start on the 14th of October. See the announcement video and official announcement for more information. Bethesda has teased a physical release of the Deluxe Edition of Oblivion Remastered with an image posted to social media. It appears that physical copies will be available for purchase starting on October 13, 2025, a date previously listed on the websites of various online video game retailers. Elder Scrolls Online update 48 is now available on the PTS server for play testing. Part 2 of the Season of the Worm Cult includes a new zone (Eastern Solstice), a server wide Writhing Wall Event, and a variety of other quality of life features and bug fixes. Our ESO Build Editor has been updated with the item and skill data for testing builds and you can check out our Skills and Set data from the update as well. ESO update 47's dungeon pack, the Feast of Shadows, is now available on all platforms. Featuring two new dungeons, Black Gem Foundry and Naj-Caldeesh, Feast of Shadows expands the Seasons of the Worm Cult storyline while also introducing new dangers, secrets, and rewards. Terence Stamp, a veteran English actor with a career in film spanning six decades, has passed away this morning. Stamp voiced Mankar Camoran, one of the main antagonists in Oblivion. He was also known for his role as General Zod in Superman, and as a favor to Todd Howard said \"Kneel before Todd\" (seen in the Making of Oblivion Documentary) in the same tone as his iconic line from the film. His performances have earned him Golden Globe and Cannes Film Festival awards as well as Oscar and BAFTA nominations. \"He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and a writer that will continue to touch people for years to come,\" his family stated. Stamp had only done about ten voice roles throughout his career, but his performance as Mankar Camoran is widely considered one of the most iconic roles in the franchise to date. He will be dearly missed. Elder Scrolls co-creator Julian LeFay, the core game director, programmer, and designer at Bethesda Softworks in the 1980s and '90s, has passed away tonight. LeFay was considered the chief imagineer behind The Elder Scrolls series during his tenure of the studio, being the project director behind Arena, Daggerfall, and Battlespire, contributing to the programming, gameplay mechanics, and lore design of the series. An in-depth statement has been posted by OnceLost Games, a company Julian co-founded, as well as a tribute posted by Bethesda, penned by Julian's friend and successor Todd Howard. We would like to wish him peace, and for him to know he will not be forgotten. ZeniMax Online Studios, the developers of The Elder Scrolls Online, has been affected by a sweeping round of layoffs done inside Microsoft. On July 2, Microsoft announced they were shelving an unannounced MMO at ZOS, affecting over 200 developers. Matt Firor, the founder and head of the studio, also announced his departure from the company, being succeeded by Jo Burba on July 14. The studio had been working on a new AAA game codenamed Project Blackbird since 2018, with many Elder Scrolls Online alumni being tasked to work on the project. According to reports, development on the game had been coming along smoothly, with a release date set for 2028, and its gameplay impressed executives at Xbox. The cancellation of the game by Microsoft came as an unexpected decision to the team, most of whom have since been laid off. The ZOS United-CWA union has since released a statement regarding concerns with pay and benefits related to the layoffs. Virtuos, the studio handling development on Oblivion Remastered, also announced a series of layoffs on July 17. Approximately 7% of Virtuos' workforce worldwide was affected due to the layoffs. Julian LeFay, the Father of The Elder Scrolls, is entering the final days of his life from his battle with cancer. Ars Technica has just released an article about the origins, history, and development of the UESP featuring interviews with its founder, Dave Humphrey, and two of its longtime editors, RobinHood70 and Dillonn241. Tamriel Rebuilt is a mod for Morrowind which adds the mainland of the province to the game, piece by piece. Today marks the release of version 25.05, Grasping Fortune, which centers on the Hlaalu capital of Narsis, a nexus of immense wealth and cruel injustice. Surrounding the city is the vast and dangerous hinterland of Shipal-Shin, whereas a number of Hlaalu and Redoran towns dot the shores of the Thirr River in the Coronati Basin region downstream of Narsis. Features include: 410 brand-new exterior cells of landmass \u2013 this is about a third the size of vanilla's Vvardenfell island. Aside from the vast metropolis of Narsis, the area includes the desert canyons of the Shipal-Shin region, the densely settled agricultural hinterland of the Coronati Basin, and the canopied mushroom forest of the Othreleth Woods. Over 870 new cells of interior locations, of which slightly less than 200 are for Narsis alone. Another ~140 are hostile dungeons of several variants: in addition to vanilla dungeon types, there are also the brand new Skyrender hives, an Ayleid dungeon, and a Remanite fortress. Over 270 new quests, featuring questlines for nearly all vanilla factions \u2013 most especially House Hlaalu with over 40 new quests, including a Grandmaster sequence \u2013 but also the brand-new Ja-Natta Syndicate, an unscrupulous criminal faction challenging the local Thieves Guild. Download links and detailed information about new features are available on Tamriel Rebuilt's website. The existence of Oblivion Remastered has been confirmed by Bethesda following days of leaks. First spotted in court documents in 2023, the long-awaited remaster is set to be announced via livestream on Twitch and YouTube tomorrow at 11am EST (3pm UTC). Update April 22: The game is now available on: Steam Xbox X|S PS5 The details of The Elder Scrolls Online's shift to seasonal content releases have been revealed with the announcement of the 2025 Content Pass and Premium Edition. The pass will include the already-released Fallen Banners dungeon pack, the upcoming zone of Western Solstice (due to be released in June), the newly-announced Feast of Shadows dungeon pack, and a zone expansion into Eastern Solstice for the story finale. The in-game Writhing Wall event was also announced, and will involve each megaserver working towards the goal of bringing down a magical barrier on Solstice. The pass also includes the usual slew of cosmetic items, which can be obtained by purchasing and/or pre-ordering. Similar to previous years, the new Premium Edition includes the base game along with all existing Chapters. In addition to new story content, a new subclassing system was announced. Existing characters will be able to obtain skill lines from up to two other classes. One skill line from the character's original class must be retained, but the other two can be replaced as desired. It will not be possible to obtain more than one skill line from a particular class. Subclassing will be available immediately if you already have a level 50 character of that class once the system is released. A new Loremaster's Archive has been released, providing yet another interview between the community and characters within the lore of The Elder Scrolls Online. The latest Archive is an interview with Sister Chana Nirine, one of the Moth Priests responsible for reading and interpreting the Elder Scrolls themselves. Notably, Sister Chana's answers include several new lore texts detailing the history of the scrolls and the origins of the Cyrodilic tradition of reading the prophecies contained within.
