Telvanni Master 'Bug'
2 December 2002

The bug/feature occurs when you try and advance to the last rank in the House and are told you cannot. It is supposed to start when you advance from the rank of Wizard when speaking to Master Aryon (in Tel Vos, use topic Magister:

I can grant you the rank of Master now. That will give you an equal place on the Telvanni Council. But if you aspire to a higher claim, I can also grant you the title of Magister. By accepting the title of Magister, you are announcing that you deserve the title of Archmagister more than Gothren who currently holds that rank. Which will it be?
However, some people have mentioned that they have problems advancing to Archmagister even if they never choose to have this one time advance to Magister, leaving them quite stuck at the rank of Magister.

In order to advance, you are supposed to speak to Aryon again (topic Magister again).

You have foresworn the title of Magister... But perhaps you have changed your mind. Will you fight Archmagister Gothren and claim the title as your own?
You should choose to fight Gothren, kill him, and return to Aryon to be named as the Archmagister.

Again, however, some people have not been able to do this. The last option for those playing the PC version of the game is to cheat. Open the console using the ~ tilde key and enter the command:

PCRaiseRank "Telvanni"

Becoming Guildmaster Peacefully
14 January 2003

There is a non-violent way to becoming archmagister of the Telvanni (well, in terms of Gothren at least)

If you do ALL of the quests for the Telvanni in the walkthrough, Aryon (or whatever the guy in Tel Vos's name is) will tell you to talk to the council member individually to secure their votes. I chose to kill Gothren myself, but the other option allows you to get votes to replace Gothren rather than killing him (you get a higher reputation bonus for doing the councilor way I think).

Telvanni Stronghold
11 August 2002

Once you reach Rank 4 you can start the construction of your stronghold by talking with Llunela Hleran in the Telvanni Council House in Sadrith Mora. She will tell you that you need a construction contract from Duke Vedam Dren in the Grand Council Chamber in Ebonheart. All that Vedam requires is for you to give an oath to aid the people of Vvardenfell for you to receive the contract. Return to Hleran who will give you two Grand Soul gems to start the foundation of your tower, though you must first fill them with the souls of powerful Daedra (such as a Storm Atronach, Winged Twilight, or Golden Saint). You can summon the Daedra (the easy way) or go out on a hunting trip (the hard way).

Once the two souls gems are filled, return to Hleran to begin the first phase of construction on your stronghold. After a few days you'll receive a journal entry prompting you to speak with Hleran again. She will give you the stronghold's location (Tel Uvirith in the Uvirith's Grave area [10,1]), NorthEast of the Erabenimsum Camp, far SouthWest of Sadrith Mora. Speak with the site foreman there, the Orc Gashnak gra-Mughol, and return to report to Hleran. You will receive another journal entry in a few days when the construction is finished.

Stronghold Upgrade 1
11 August 2002

Once the first phase of construction on your stronghold is complete, you can speak with Hleran again to begin your first upgrade. Hleran will ask you for 5000 gold and some Dwemer plans from the ruins of Mzanchend (NorthWest of your stronghold). Bring the plan and the gold back to Hleran to start the upgrade construction. You will receive a journal entry in a few days once construction is complete.

Stronghold Upgrade 2
23 January 2003

Speak to Hleran again to begin your second and last upgrade to your tower. She will tell you that guards are needed for your stronghold and that you'll need to find the book The Secrets of Dwemer Animunculi, found only in the vampire lair Galom Daeus, to create the guards. The lair is West-South-West of your tower and it is a dangerous place as it is home to the Berne clan of vampires. Return the book to Hleran who will order the final phase of construction to begin (note that when you collect the book you also gained the Summon Centurion Sphere spell, the only known way to get it). You'll receive a journal entry in a few days once the construction is complete.

Five Pieces of Muck
11 August 2002

Raven Omayn in the Telvanni Council House in Sadrith Mora will ask you to retrieve five pieces of Muck for some potion making. The quickest, and easiest, route, is to simply buy the Muck from Anis Seloth's Alchemy shop in town. The alternative is to harvest it from the wild in the Azura's Coast and West Gash regions.

Return to Raven with the 5 pieces of Muck to complete the quest and receive a reward of 100 gold and the Cure Disease spell.

Find the Black Jinx Ring
11 August 2002

Raven Omayn in the Telvanni Council House in Sadrith Mora will ask you to find a ring named Black Jinx for Councillor Dratha. The ring is apparently somewhere in Sadrith Mora but no further details are given. Ask around town and you'll learn that the ring is in the hands of the Morag Tong. Find the Morag Tong guild in town and speak with Alven Salas there, who has the ring. Unfortunately he is wearing it and so you cannot steal it. You can kill (or just knock) out Alven to get the ring, though if you raise his disposition above 60 you can get him to initiate a duel (or you can just taunt him). Alternatively, if you are presently the GrandMaster of the Morag Tong, Alven will just give you the ring right off. Btw, the ring casts Absorb Luck (10 to 50) and Burden (25 to 100) at a touched target for 120 seconds in case you were wondering.

Return to Raven with the ring to complete the quest and receive the Demoralize spell.

Retrieve Five Pieces of Sload Soap
11 August 2002

Arara Uvulas in the Telvanni Council House in Sadrith Mora will ask you to retrieve five pieces of Sload Soap for her research (and actually gives you some gold to help buy some). Head over to Anis Seloth's shop in town to buy the soap, which cannot be found in the wild.

Return to Arara with the fives pieces of soap to complete the quest.

Find the Staff of Silver Dawn
11 August 2002

Arara Uvulas in the Telvanni Council House in Sadrith Mora will ask you to find and return the Staff of Silver Dawn, rumoured to be held by someone in the Mages Guild in town. Visit the Mages Guild in Wolverine Hall in town and you'll find that it is in the possession of Arielle Phiencel. Arielle is willing to part with the staff at a price (300 gold). Note that the staff is simpled named as a Silver Staff and casts Blind Self (5 to 75) and Fortify Blunt Weapon (10 to 10) for 5 seconds when it strikes.

Return to Arara with the staff to complete the quest and receive a Steel Jinkblade dagger.

Deliver Skirt to Councillor Therana
11 August 2002

Felisa Ulessen in the Telvanni Council House in Sadrith Mora will ask you to deliver a skirt to Mistress Therana in Tel Branora. You can find out from Felisa (or from the main quest) that Therana can be difficult to work with, and you'll receive two Almsivi Intervention scrolls from Felisa. Head to Tel Branora (far island in the SouthEast of the map, reached by boat) and find Therana in the upper tower (like most Telvanni towers, you'll need a Levitate spell). Try and give the new skirt to Therana who will be worried that it is cursed, and asks you to wear it first. As soon as you do, however, she attacks. Don't bother hanging around, just escape by anymeans available (such as the intervention scrolls). There is only one way around this, though cruel, and that is to get the Khajiit slave (Ra'Zahr) next to Therana to wear the skirt instead (just speak with him). Therana will attack the Khajiit instead.

Return to Felisa to complete the quest and receive the Mark and Recall spells.

Stop Abebaal Slave Revolt
11 August 2002

Felisa Ulessen in the Telvanni Council House in Sadrith Mora will ask you to stop the rebellion of slaves in the Abebaal Egg Mine, NorthWest of Tel Branora. One method is to kill the slave's leader, the Argonian Eleedal-Lei, though you'll have to fight any of his followers if you do. An alternative is to merely talk to Eleedal-Lei and convince him to stop the revolt. To do this, you'll have to find the slave key to free him which can be found in three places: on Therana, a desk in Lower Tel Branora, and a container in the mine near the Kwama Queen.

Return to Felisa to complete the quest. If you killed Eleedal-Lei, you'll receive rings of Firestorm and Toxic Cloud. If you talked him down, you'll receive the Command spell.

Find Three Books for Baladas
9 September 2002

Baladas Demnevanni in Arvs-Drelen in Gnisis will ask you to find three books: Nchnak's Fire and Faith, Chronicles of Nchuleft, and Antecedents of Dwemer Law. Fortunately, though the books are rare they are not terribly difficult to find. All three books can be found in the Holamayan Monastery and in the Tribunal Temple's secret library in Vivec. The Monastery is found on the large island on the East of the map, far North to the Shrine of Azura and you may have already found it as a part of the main quest (you can also reach it via a boat from Ebonheart's docks). Unfortunately it's entrance is only available at the hours of dawk and dusk.

The Tribunal's Secret Library in Vivec is an equally difficult route as it is well hidden and once inside you'll have to watch out for the Ordinator guards when you steal the books.

If you have the money, the easiest method is to simple buy the books from Dorisa Darvel in Balmora (who as both Chronicles and Fire) and Jobasha's Rare Books in the Foreign Quarter in Vivec (who has both Chronicles and Antecedents).

Return to Baladas with the three books to complete the quest and receive a number of his 'trinkets' as a reward. This includes: Ondusi's Key, Amulet of Admonition, Second Barrier Belt, and the Surefeet shoes.

Find Mezalf's Summoning Ring
11 August 2002

Once you reach Rank 4, Baladas Demnevanni in Arvs-Drelen in Gnisis will ask you to find an ancient summoning ring belonging to Dahrk Mezalf who worked as a smith under the great Dwemer inventor Kagrenac (who you may have heard of already). Baladas believes that ring can be found in the Dwemer village of Bthungthumz, NorthWest of Maar Gan and SouthWest of the Urshilaku Camp. The ruins inside are quite small and you should quickly find Mezalf's Spirit haunting the place (which is more difficult). The ring can be found on his corpse.

Return to Baladas with the ring for a reward of a Centurion guard (unless you've killed Mezalf's Spirit when you receive the quest). The guard will follow you around for the rest of the game, or his death.

Question Baladas on the Dwemer
14 June 2003

Note that Mallam will disappear if you kill Gothern.

Mallam Ryon in the Telvanni Council House in Sadrith Mora will ask you to visit Baladas Demnevanni in Arvs-Drelen in Gnisis and ask him three questions about the Dwemer disappearances, artifacts, and language. When you speak with Baladas, the answers he'll give you will depend on his disposition towards you. If he doesn't like you, you may not even get an answer at all (though you can still complete the quest since you only need to ask the questions). If his disposition is higher than 70, you should get an informative answer about each of the three.

Return to Mallam when you've asked the questions to complete the quest and receive some Messanger scrolls as a reward.

Retrieve Plans to Nchuleft
11 August 2002

Mallam Ryon in the Telvanni Council House in Sadrith Mora will ask you to recover some plans in the Dwemer ruins of Nchuleft, West and slightly South of Tel Mora and NorthEast of the Zainab Camp. The plans are on the bottom shelf on the bookcase in the first room to your left. Don't forget to check the ruins for any loot.

Return to Mallam with the plans to complete the quest and receive a reward of a magical Cephalopod Helm.

Deliver Message to Divayth Fyr
11 August 2002

Galos Mathendis in the Telvanni Council House in Sadrith Mora will ask you to deliver a coded messsage to Divayth Fyr in his tower of Tel Fyr in the islands SouthWest of Sadrith Mora. Simply deliver the message to the wizard at the top of his tower and receive his response of NO.

Return to Galos with Fyr's reply to complete the quest.

Deliver Cure Blight Potions
11 August 2002

Galos Mathendis in the Telvanni Council House in Sadrith Mora will ask you to deliver three potions of Cure Blight to Andil in the alchemy shop in Tel Vos who is need of them. Unfortunately, he neglects to actually give you the potions so you'll need to pick three up from Pierlette Rostorard in town (there are actually two potions you can pick up within the Council House itself).

Return to Galos once you've delivered the potions to complete the quest.

Deliver Daedra Skin
11 August 2002

Galos Mathendis in the Telvanni Council House in Sadrith Mora will ask you to find some Daedra Skin of Master Aryon. The skin can be found on most Daedra (such as Scamps) but they can be hard to find. The easiest route is to merely buy the skin from an alchemy shop such as Anis Seloth in Sadrith Mora. Take one of the Skins to Aryon in Tel Vos.

Take the Daedra Skin to Master Aryon in Tel Vos to complete the quest and receive your reward.

Therana and Auriel's Bow
12 August 2002

Once you reach Rank 4 in the house, Councillor Therana in the Upper Tower in Tel Branora will talk to you about Auriel's Bow that she says smells faintly of Ash Yams (in case you haven't noticed, Therana is slightly eccentric). Therana doesn't given any exact location, but says that the 'smell' is strongest in Ghostgate near Ralyn Othravel (good nose). Ralyn can be found in the Tower of Dawn and is indeed carrying the bow, though you'll have to kill him in order to get it.

Return to Therana in Tel Branora with the bow to receive a Daedric Cuirass and Greaves. If you refuse payment, she'll give you 11,111 gold anyways. Of course, since this is the only quest received from Therana, you could always keep the bow...or give her the bow and kill her (which might feel slightly good).

The amulet is currently in the possession of Neloth's captain archer in Tel Naga, Sadrith Mora. Talk to the guards in Tel Naga to learn that the captain's name is Berengeval. If you persuade them sufficiently (disposition 60) you'll also learn that he is in the tower's General Quarters. You'll have to find and kill Berengeval to get the amulet. You may wish to taunt Berengeval in order to avoid the murder charges.

Return to Dratha with the amulet to complete the quest and receive an Amulet of Spell Absorption as a reward. If you are a female, you'll also receive four Summon Golden Saint scrolls. On the other hand, the amulet you retrieve might be worth keeping. This is the only quest you receive from Dratha.

The Robe is currently in the possession of Senise Thindo, a servant of Archmagister Gothern in Tel Aruhn. Talk to people there to find Thindo in the Tower's living quarters. Unfortunately you must kill her to get the robe from her.

Return the robe to Neloth to receive some disposition and a whole 10 gold. You're obviously better off keeping the robe. This is the only quest you receive from Neloth.

12 August 2002

Councillor Aryon in the Upper Tower of Tel Vos will ask you to go and speak with Baladas Demnevanni and convince him to ally with Aryon. Go and visit with Baladas in Arvs-Drelen in Gnisis. IF you've already collected the three books for Baladas, you'll be basically finished as Baladas will immediately agree to Aryon's request. If not, perform the Three Books for Baladas quest.

Return to Aryon to complete the quest. You will be promoted to Aryon's Mouth and receive the Silver Staff of Peace. You may also notice that a new mouth, Enar Releth, has replaced the former mouth Galos Mathendis in the Telvanni Council House.

Cure Mudan-Mul Eggmine
12 August 2002

Councillor Aryon in the Upper Tower of Tel Vos will ask you to cure the blighted Kwama Queen in the Mudan-Mul Eggmine. The mine is found West of the tower and Aryon will even offer to teach you the Cure Blight spell if you don't already know it. Or you can buy some Cure Blight scrolls from Hetman Abelmawia in Gnisis.

Return to Aryon once the queen is cured to complete the quest and receive an Alteration skill book as a reward.

Learn Three Spells
12 August 2002

Councillor Aryon in the Upper Tower of Tel Vos will ask you to learn three basic spells: Levitate, Recall and Fire Storm. If you already know them, the quest will be quite easy. If not, however, the spells can be found at Feuyn Ralen (Vivec, Telvanni Mage) and from Felara Andrethi in Tel Aruhn Living Quarters.

Return to Aryon once the queen is cured to complete the quest and receive a Destruction skill book as a reward.

Aid Faram in Odirniran
12 August 2002

Councillor Aryon in the Upper Tower of Tel Vos will ask you to go and help defend the home of necromancer Milyn Faram who is being attacked by House Hlaalu. Milyn lives in Odirniran which is East of Molag Mar. Be sure to take care of all the Hlaalu that are just inside the entrance and speak with Faram. He will ask you to be sure and kill the leader of the force, Remasa Othril, which you might have already done if you killed him on the way in. If you don't kill Vedelea (being held in the tower), you'll also receive four Summon Daedroth scrolls.

Return to Aryon to complete the quest and receive a skill book as a reward.

Get Redoran Support for Proposal
12 August 2002

Councillor Aryon in the Upper Tower of Tel Vos will ask you to persuade three Redoran Councillors to agree with the Telvanni proposal that the restriction on offering magic services to only members be lifted (House Telvanni wishes to compete with the Mages Guild). Go and visit with Athyn Sarethi in his manor in Ald'ruhn's Manor District. Athyn will agree if you raise his disposition above 50. He will also tell you which councillors won't support the change: Bolyn Venim. The other 4 councillors, however, will all agree to support House Telvanni in this matter if you raise their dispositions to above 40.

Return to Aryon to complete the quest and receive a a magic glove that casts Command Human and Creature. If you happened to 'accidently' kill any Redoran councillors along the way, you can complete the quest but will not receive the magic glove.

Rescue Faves Andas in Shishi
12 August 2002

Councillor Aryon in the Upper Tower of Tel Vos will ask you to rescue Faves Andas who is under attack from a Redoran force. Faves is found in the Telvanni base of Shishi, NorthWest of Maar Gan. Upon entry to the base, be sure to kill the Redoran force at the entrance. At first glance, Faves is nowhere to be found. A careful search, however, reveals him in a secret room accessed by touching the skull on the table on the upper floor. Talk with Faves who will ask you to kill the Redoran leader, Selas, if you haven't already done so. You'll receive an Alteration and Destruction skill books once you do.

Return to Aryon to complete the quest and receive the Silver Staff of War as a reward.

Recruit a Mouth
14 September 2002

Councillor Aryon in the Upper Tower of Tel Vos will ask you to recruit a Mouth in order to be promoted to a Telvanni Councillor. Ask Aryon and he will mention a possible candidate in Balmora. Keep asking around the Telvanni to yield the name Edd Theman (also known as Fast Eddie and Eddie the Rat, wonderful). You can speak with Caius Cosades in his manor in the Redoran Plaza in Vivec to learn more on Edd. He was a former Telvanni wizard but went and joined the Mages Guild. Edd is apparently colorful but unreliable, though a good source on the going ons in House Telvanni. Visit Edd in Balmora who will agree to serve as your Mouth in return for a Silver Staff of Peace (given to you by Aryon at Rank 4, or just buy a new one).

Return to Aryon to complete the quest and receive a glove that summons three Atronachs. Note that after this quest Edd will appear in the Telvanni Council House, and not in Balmora.

If you've lost your original Silver Staff of Peace, you can find a few others at the following locations:

  1. Indarys Manor, Berendas' House (Uvele Berendas)
  2. Moonmoth Legion Fort, Interior (Crulius Pontanian)

Councillor Aryon in the Upper Tower of Tel Vos will ask you to kill Banden Indarys in Indarys Manor, along the road between Ald'ruhn and Maar Gan (NorthWest of Ald'ruhn and SouthWest of Maar Gan).

Return to Aryon to complete the quest and be promoted to Magister.

Become House Archmagister
12 August 2002

To become the Archmagister of House Telvanni, you must secure the support of all surviving Telvanni Councillors (note the key word here is 'surviving'). Either get their support or just kill them, its how the Telvanni do things. Perhaps now would be a good time to start watching your back and hire a few bodyguards. Yoy may need to raise the disposition of the councillors to above 80 to get them to support you.

Return to Aryon to complete the quest and be promoted to Archmagister.

Ring of Equity
12 August 2002

Once you recruit Fast Eddie and he arrives at the Telvanni Council Chamber in Sadrith Mora, you can get him to find the Ring of Equity from its hiding place in Neloth's treasury. All you need to do is bring him the Treasury Key. Many people in Tel Naga will have the key such as guards and Neloth himself. Take or steal one and return the key to Eddie. You'll receive a journal entry soon afterward when he has the ring. Meet him at the Council Chamber and he'll give it to you.

Amulet of Unity
12 August 2002

Once you recruit Fast Eddie and he arrives at the Telvanni Council Chamber in Sadrith Mora, will ask you to give him five Standard Invisibility potions (only store bought ones will work) in order for him to retrieve a magical amulet from the mainland.
