Post subject:  Custom practice spell for Destruction

I am now trying to up my Destruction skill to 75 (currently 69)

The Wiki recommends creating a custom practice spell presumably to use on one's self rather than a target.

How exactly would I go about this?

I assume that when I've done it, (created the spell that is), I can go around happily mashing until my level 75 is reached!

That's about how it works, I'd recommend a drain health spell so you're not really damaging yourself. It'll take forever, but but'll work.

Go to Skingrad Mages Guild.

Buy Minor Enervation from Druja.

Go to the Arcane University's Paxographical Center.

Make a custom spell Drain Fatigue 3 points for 1 second on Self (very important you make sure it is ON SELF!!!).

Find a nice cozy place for your character to stay safe, like in your character home, and place a weight on the cast button or get a rubber band to hold it down.

Pretend your character is Rock Lee doing push ups.

Go make a sandwich and/or watch an entire DVD box set of your favorite show.

The same way you make any custom spell. Go find the spell making altar (arcane university has one) and start putting the effects together.

I personally like weakness and anything that doesn't damage health for destruction training. Could even do sunder effects to train up blacksmithing.

I have sorted the Destruction Spell out but I'm a bit lost again - can you help with this one?

Subject: Enchanting an item to enhance Mercantile Skill.

I want to enchant several items of armour that I'm currently wearing so that it increases my Mercantile Skill.

How do I go about it?

I've been to an Enchanting Altar. I've picked say a Cuirass and a Grand Soul Gem. I've given the item a name - any old name to start off and then gone down the Applicable Effects. This is where the problems start!

There are no applicable effects applicable to Mercantile. I've clicked on Fortify Attribute and that will only give me Strength. I've clicked on Fortify Skill and that will only give me Armourer.

I can't see anything happening in the next column (Added Effects).

What am I doing wrong? What should I be doing?

Or am I barking totally up the wrong tree (i.e. I trying to do something that can't be done anyway)?

If you can help please give me a step by step procedure.

....

You want Fortify SKILL. You won't find it in any base game spell, it's not present. You have to find some other effect to grant it upon yourself to then use for custom enchants.

Become a vampire, acquire the skeleton key, spell tome dlc, thieve's den hide out spell merchant, or doomstone greater power effects are the only ways to acquire the fortify skill effect.

Drain health on self 3 pts for 1 second ... you should have the drain health spell (also from Skingrad) for making weapons.

I often use Drain Speed because if you want to use "drain speed" for a poison bow you have to make a spell after being bitten by a rat (usually). Since I have to make that spell anyway, I make it drain speed on self 3 pts 1 sec.

Most of my destruction points come from corrode armor rather than practice spells. I use the broken armor to build up my armorer skill via fixing the stuff I corrode.

You can also use the plain, store bought drain health spell on things like ghosts if you keep the Anvil house quest unfinished for practicing and have resistance to frost and/or a good custom health potion. IIRC, it casts faster than the 'on self' spell.
