Post subject: | Vampire Dust |
Subsequent to completing the Miscellaneous Quest "Order Of The Virtuous Blood", I returned to Roland Jenseric with some Vampire Dust expecting to reimbursed 250 GP for each lot. I actually had 1 batch of 8 and another older batch of 10 lots of Vampire Dust. The one lot of 8 was collected from recent missions and the batch of 10 attained way back in the game. It seems that Roland Jenseric will only accept the one batch of 8 and any newer batches that I've managed to "collect". Is there any reason why he won't accept the batch of 10? Is it any different from the other Vampire Dust because I can't really see the difference when I compare them. The fact that they didn't "total" up with the other batch leads me to think there must be some subtle difference, (i.e. the 8 and the 10 making up to 18 in the journal inventory) |

There are actually two types of vampire dust, standard and rare, (both just named 'vampire dust' tho) which is likely why they are in separate batches in your inventory. Jenseric will only accept the standard type. More info on the types: |

There is some vampire dust that can't be sold, namely any dust that you obtain in Bloodcrust Cavern, during a quest for the Mages Guild. This is an entirely different item and isn't recognized by the faction because of that. Check the weight: regular Vampire Dust weighs 0.2 while the "special" dust weighs 0.1. There is a way to change this: if you are the arch-mage and have access to the special chest you can put the "special" dust in. The chest will convert and multiply it to normal vampire dust, at which point you'll be able to sell it. edit: dammit, ninja'd. |

Oh, I assumed you knew about the chest, sorry. In the Arch-Mage's quarters there's a chest that multiplies any alchemical ingredient put in it after 24 hours passed, with some exceptions. However, to have access to this chest you need to be the Arch-Mage, IE you need to have completed the Mages Guild. |

Vampire dust is a key ingredient in a powerful poison I use so I never sell it. There is also a chance that you will murder someone in the mages guild and have to turn in vampire dust to be readmitted. |

I think I've got it! 1. I place my Vampire Dust in the chest. 2. I then wait 24 hours. 3. I then open the chest and by rights, my single sample of dust should now be 11 and weigh 0.2 instead of 0.1. Is that correct? Plus I cannot return for a week, (in Oblivion time line). Given this is the case, if I have say 9 samples, should I just place all of it in? |

Yes. You've got it, but watch out. A couple of times when I used mine, it didn't multiply. It might be just my version, or computer, but, you should save first. |
