Im a master at alteration and when i go to the alter of spell making i cant raise the slider above 100, but for example the Beast of Burden spell has a value of 250, why is this?
cheers

When making a spell it'll only let you go up to a 100 so (I'm going to guess) you can't make overpowered spells.

hmmm thats odd, as the Beast of Burden allows for 250 feather effect....odd??

So use Beast of Burden?
Can't stack it with itself though, so if you need more than the 250 Beast of Burden gives then make your custom spell aswell and stack the effects for 350, add another custom spell with a diff name and you'll get 450, another for 550 etc.
Think scroll might stack with the spell aswell, idk about that though 'cos I technically never tried it.

Yep, I continue to use Beast of Burden even after mastering Alteration for just that reason. You can also stack by using Ease Burden, Pack Mule, and Lighten Load.
I tend to use these four and also a custom spell that raises Feather by 100 AND Strength by 100. That gives you 600 more pounds of carrying capacity but has a huge Magicka cost...

The enchantment menu does have limits. Artifacts and various other things in-game exceed these limits, just the way it is.

Thanks guys, ive got a technique down now anyway
Base encumbrance: 150
BoB: 250
Feather 1: 100
Feather 2: 100
that gives me 600 to play with, i might consider adding a fortify strength spell/enchanted item in there somewhere to bump it up even further

Oh if you add negatives it does reduce the cost right? Just make sure it's something you're immune to.
Thu Mar 04, 2010 1:51 am
does this apply to spellmaking too?
so if i made a spell that costs like 800 mg then added weakness to say...poison on self 100% then the costs would actually reduce??

I think some use mod for enchanting, mor likely this .
In vanila Oblivion that is not posible.

Enchant eight items of clothing with Transendant Sigil Stone Feather enchantments, to get a 1000 pt Feather suit. It took a while, but I got there in the end.
Also keep what you carry as standard down to an absolute minimum, and if at all possible wear enchanted clothing instead of armour. Remember your armour rating peaks at 85, which is ten pts more than a complete set of Daedric (inc. a shield), which can be easily achieved by enchanting four items of clothing with Fire Shield, Frost Shield, Shock Shield, and Shield, Transendant Sigil Stone enchantments. As Fire/Frost/Shock each provide an additional 25 pts towards your overal armour rating, whilst shield for some reason only provides a mere 20 pts. This also allows you to maintain 100% spell effectiveness, a must for magicka-minded players.

there is a sigil stone that you can use for someboots or something that gives you 125pts of feather.

But couldnt have this all been settled if we had the enchantment skill like in morrowind.
