And so it was that Quick Ben, Level 18 Dark Elf Druid and wearer of medium armour, did ascend Mount Assarnibibi and receive the Ebony Mail. So I figured that, even though he had a pretty bossy look going on with a Dreugh cuirass, bonemold pauldrons, adamantium bracers, Orcish greaves, Indoril boots and a Dragonscale helmet, he needed a seriously decent piece of armour. I had it all worked out that by the time he'd been named Nerevarine and Hortator he'd be worthy of such a fine piece of gear.

So after about 5 seconds the constant stars swirling across the display began to seriously annoy me. I don't really relish the thought of hours more gameplay overlaid with what looks like some seriously dodgy visuals from a psychedelic rock gig. Is there a way to turn that off? I'm playing on Mac with a wrapper so I can use the console but possibly not access the game files.

Unfortunately there's no way to turn off the visual effect through the console. The only way to do it, as far as I can see, would be to use the CS to modify the visual effects associated with the Shield spell effect. This would eliminate the psychedelic purple bubble for every shield spell in the game, though.

Probably not a lot of help to you, but I thought I'd throw it in FWIW. (As an aside, I agree with you that the constant swirly visual effects used by some spells are an annoying and unnecessary visual distraction, and they discourage me from using those spells or any item that has those spells as a constant effect.)
