I started playing Morrowind again and I'm having trouble with the mouse. It turns fine unless I am walking. If I am walking I can control it for a second but then it locks into position and I can't use it again until I stop walking. If I press the right or left key while walking then I can use the mouse to look around as much as I want, but as soon as I stop and go again it happens all over again and I again have to press left or right or stop walking to look around. It's really annoying, especially because I enjoy roleplaying and looking around while I walk.

Thanks in advance... I don't remember having this problem before, but it has been awhile since I last played.

That is certainly not normal. If I had to take a shot in the dark, do you have a controller plugged in? I've had one do weird stuff with my Oblivion, so that's my best guess at the moment. Otherwise you could try to adjust the game's sensitivity to the mouse and see if that fixes anything. Alternatively, do you have Pixel Shading on? It has made my game do weird stuff when it is on, and I've read that it can cause mouse lag, so if Pixel shading is on, try turning it off. (or vice versa, just to cover your bases.)

Everything I've said are just wild guesses, so apologies if they don't work.

I don't have a controller plugged in. How do I turn pixel shaders on or off? Thanks for the help.

In the launcher you can click options, it should looks something like this.

Third one down. It should open up this box:

Try to change the Pixel shader option from whatever it is right now, with luck it should fix it.

I'm not sure what else there is. One other thing I've read, that sadly I have no experience with in Morrowind is the ini file. From other places I have heard that if it is actually a lag related issue, you can help it by reducing the Max FPS setting in it. You can find the ini in Morrowind's root folder. (Probably C:/program files/Bethesda Softworks/Morrowind) As with always when messing with an ini, make a copy of it somewhere, the desktop would be simplest.

To change it find the Morrowind.ini file where I've mentioned earlier, find the Max FPS variable, and change it to 60 or so. If it doesn't work, change it back to whatever it was before.

Maybe someone else will have a good idea.

It doesn't really seem like a lag issue but I'll try it. Also, when you change to third person view, shouldn't you be able to turn the camera angle to view your character? I may be wrong. Like maybe in third person if you click and move it you can view the front or side of your character? For me it just turns my character back and forth.. Or is there a different way to turn the camera in third person?

Depending on how you have it set up, holding the button that changes them (for me it is tab) allows you to look at the from of the character by moving the mouse as normal. Given how your game seems to be acting, it may not work. The other way to change the camera between first and third person is by using the zoom out buttons. For me it's the mouse wheel.

That worked for me, thanks. As far as the ini file, when I tried to save it, my access was denied.

Edit: I changed my permissions for the file and was able to change it. Butit didn't solve the problem either. Oh well I'll get use to it eventually, I'm sure. Thanks for trying to help me out.

Hey I found the solution if someone can help me get to my drivers settings? Apparently it is because I am using a laptop. The scrollpad locks after a key is pressed for a certain amount of time. I can disable that feature in my driver's settings. But I don't know how to get there. Last time I played Morrowind I had a mouse, that explains why I didn't have the issue.

That would explain it, unfortunately I don't know much about laptops, so I may not have the most accurate information. I would assume you go to the control panel, find the mouse option (might be in the hardware area) and change something there.
