Can't Advance Past House Cousin in House Redoran

Thu Oct 12, 2017 3:47 am

First post. I hope this is the right place for it. And my apologies if this has been answered before. I have searched many times and could not find this particular problem.

Athyn Sarethi tells me that I have an excellent reputation and have performed enough duties, but he still says I do not meet the requirements. My skills and attributes more than satisfy them. At first I thought I needed to build my stronghold, but, 2 stages in, his dialogue has not changed. Maybe I'm missing something and this is a stupid question, but I'm out of ideas.

Anyone know how to fix this?

This is going to sound obvious, but the most common thing I've seen overlooked in situations like this is that the skill level requirements for advancement apply to the faction's favoured skills only. House Redoran's favoured skills are: Athletics, Long Blade, Spear, Heavy Armor, Medium Armor, and Armorer. In order to advance to House Brother, make sure that one of these six skills is at least 60, and another two of these six skills are at least 20.

If you're running mods, make sure a mod hasn't changed the faction's favoured skills, attributes or requirements. Other than that, I can't think of any reason why advancement would be denied if your character meets the requirements.

Just did a quick check. That's the problem! For whatever reason, I thought Axe was one of the favored skills. *facepalm* I'm such an idiot.

Thank you for your help.

No worries! Glad I was able to help. And don't feel bad; I'm positive I saw a thread with the exact same issue recently (someone who couldn't advance because they thought a skill was favoured when it wasn't). Can't for the life of me find it now, though...
