A place to discuss and ask questions about the third part of The Elder Scrolls series and its expansions

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this weird glitch I get every time I boot up Morrowind.
When the game first loads my save file the screen starts flashing. It's hard to explain, like say I load it up and I am standing looking down a road with some hills and trees, well all the graphics start vibrating and shaking, and if I look in another direction an imprint of what I was looking at before follows me. If I pause and bring up either the main menu (return, save, load, quit etc) or the player inventory/spell screen it stops, but starts again when I un-pause.
Now it's not a huge deal because once I reload the file it works normally. I am just curious as to what it could possibly be. I tried making a new character to test if it affected him but it didn't, just my current character so I think it must be something in those save files.
The only unofficial mods I have running are the Patch Project and Code Patch. I do have Tribunal and Bloodmoon as well as a handful of other official plug-ins (Master Index, Siege at Firemoth, Bitter Coast Sounds). But I think I installed the latter after this started.
My computer is only a couple years old and can play Morrowind at full blast no problems so I don't think it's a hardware issue. The only thing is I am playing it on a Mac using a wrapper so I don't know if that has anything to do with it but like I said I couldn't replicate the issue on another save.
It's not a dire issue as I can just reload the save, but it is annoying and I wondered if anyone had a clue as to what was causing it?

Nothing?

I've got to say N, that's confounding me. The thing that gets me is that it's happening to only one of your characters. Do you have any Constant Effect enchantments that alter perception, such as Blind, Night Eye, or Light?

I've experienced a similar anomaly on Mac, where the screen flashes occasionally. But it usually corrects itself after a few moments, or when I load another cell. Morrowind is a crotchety old luddite. Maybe it doesn't like the wrapper, or your graphics card, or the Mac OS, or multi-core processors - take your pick.
I don't know why one might attribute this issue to save file corruption, but it can't hurt to .

I created a new save file, after a few hours of gameplay it started it too. Very weird. I guess it's not a big deal just wondering what exactly was causing it. My guess is something to do with the wrapper as well but since a simple reload corrects it I won't worry to much.

It's also possible that some effect (e.g. levitation) or script may have been wearing off or kicking in the moment you saved. This can produce all manner of aberrant glitches. It would help if you could manage a screenshot.

I've tried to get a screen but it'll take a still and you can't see the flashing that way. I could try a video I guess But I dunno how. I assume it's just the wrapper at this point, I need to get a gaming PC

ScreenFlow is an excellent video capture software for Mac.
And I wouldn't be too quick to blame the wrapper. Chances are you have a multi-GPU system, which Morrowind hates. Morrowind also hates any operating system that was released after 2001. And rightfully so.

Thanks, I'll try and get a video up tomorrow using that program.
And yeah, I use a late 2011 Macbook Pro if that helps any.

Turn off Graphics Switching in System Preferences>Energy Saver.
You can also use to select which GPU you want to run.

I know this is an ancient thread, and sorry I haven't updated. But I recently updated my game from the Morrowind Patch Project 1.6.5 Beta to this guys version of it:
http://btb2.free.fr/morrowind.htmlIt's the same thing but he fixed a couple of errors. I used it to fix a quest bug where a guy I needed to find vanished, but it also had the nice side effect of totally eliminating this weird graphical glitch!
Either way I'd recommend getting this if you have the other MPP, it's basically abandoned so this is as updated as it gets and fixes a couple of issues the other MPP created.
Either way problem solved
