My guess is most of em were views from bots from the search engines(i.e.the good bots)

But aside from if someone actually followed the spam, most bots wont know if it was worth it if nobody responds or posts in their thread

One probable: memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=78183 ; one followed by another generic post quoting their own first generic post.
