Need better favorites menu

Wed Nov 16, 2011 5:58 pm

I thought it would be two or more from what I saw on the E3 trailer. It only uses two of the directional buttons and both open the same menu.

I was thinkin' you could customize it more with all directional buttons. Like up for dragon shouts, --> for weapons, <-- for spells, and down for items/potions. It would be a hell of a lot faster instead of this huge list i get. I play like a battlemage and use many different spells and shouts all the time, then take out weapons when I run out of magicka.

Anyone else have overfilled favorites?

I used to but after a while I just start refining my playstyle and finding the footing of my character. Spells that I thought would be favourites, if I hadn't used them in a while, I would just remove.

As it stands right now:
Candlelight
Healing Hands
Fast Heal
Firebolt
Fury
Ice Spike
Skyforge Steel Sword
Shrouded Hood
Torch
[name omitted for spoilers]-mask that you get from a quest, reduces cost of items.

My two hot keys are set to Healing Hands and Fast Heal as I feel those are most valuable in the heat of battle.

My dragon shouts, I don't favourite.. I usually keep it on Fire Breath and haven't really found a reason to favourite any of them.

I wish you could hotkey an entire set of armor as one thing. Like 'Steel Armor' and it includes all the pieces of my steel armor.

I try and keep it below eight with my Mage. To achieve that, I adjust my favorites menu to what kind of environment I'm in, Fire Spells for Undead, Ice for almost everything else. That way, I only have to do swapping out before or after a crypt, and the menu of Spells isn't too big anyway (Frostbite, Ice Spike, [that other ranged Ice Spell; Blizzard?]) or Fire (Flames, Fireball, Conjure Flame Atronach). Having both menus favorited at once works, but it is a little too cluttered at that point.

With a warrior it's even easier; Sword, Bow, Helmet, Torch.

I absolutely hate it

Im playing a battle mage who needs to switch between roughly 6-7 spells

In Oblivion I could do this ZERO PROBLEMS

In this game, I need to pause to switch every 2-3 seconds

Absolutely DESTROYS the immersion

As a stealth character I love it. I have only four favoured objects I think, bow, daggers, and two swords. And as Mattbott mentioned, the Xbox 360 had only eight hotkeys anyways and the diagonals were a [&@%!] to work with. I got by as a mage in Oblivion using my eight hotkeys. Eight(or more) favourites shouldn't be too hard to navigate.

I had my radial favourites pretty much solid in Oblivion, even in the heat of battle i could be seamlessly switching spells, potions and staves in the heat of battle with little problem (ok, occasionally a diagonal would go wrong, but not too much :D )

The Skyrim system is annoying, I hate having to break the flow of battle ALL the time. And this playthrough I am playing a warrior, so my options are much less than they will be when I do a mage pass

I like it, but it has no reasonable order. You might think it'd be broken up by Shouts, Potions, Weapons etc but it isn't. Alphabetical? Whaaaa? I've already gotten used to it, but still cringe every time I open the menu up.
Console here, but is that something that can be 'changed' with a MOD on the PC?

I like the Favorites menu, but do think it would be better if favorites were grouped (armor, magic, potions, weapons) and each favorite list be accessible through one of the four directions on the d-pad.
