Your first -random- Dragon encounter

Thu Nov 10, 2011 9:33 am

Seeing as the game is soon to be out, and since Steam releases are local as well (meaning I will have the game in 3 and a half hours), I thought I would snag a good topic.

Now if the first dragon encounter is scripted, ignore it as your first encounter.

What this topic is for is your first, possibly frightening, encounter with your first dragon anywhere in the lands of Skyrim.

What did you do? Did you, in the words of the clever Desert Punk

Or is your skin thicker than your brain and charge it head on? And (to my amusing hopes) become it's early morning snack?

It's so unfair that you get it in just three hours!

Is it really so close to the eleventh over by Australia and that stuff down under?

People in America are the last ones to get their copies. Meanwhile the rest of the world is already dwelling in Skyrim goodness. I'm feeling sorry for you guys. Europe too still has to wait a lot though.

Outside Morthal (if that's not scripted - I think it may be). Got clobbered by a Giant AFTER I killed it.

My first random dragon attack?

A Frost Dragon.

In the dead of night.

During a snowstorm.

Running down the Throat of the World's seven thousand steps.

It was awesome! :D

I traveled to Riften looking for a certain someone and before I could get in the gates a dragon swooped down on the stables. We fended it off easily, most thanks due to my excellent ability to shoot electricity from my hands

Dragons! Lots of them! Post pictures of dragon fights. What was your first one like? How many have you fought? Have you ever fought against two in the wild? How did you feel, absorbing that soul. My first one was good. I saw the dragon in the distance, coming to the watchtower. I ran up to look at it and it almost killed me. It was amazing. Once, I was getting attacked off of a giant, a dragon and two mammoths!

OMG, I had my first encounter with a dragon today!

I was with the dark elf from the College of Winterhold doing a quest, and I was walking to the place I needed to go, when suddenly a huge roar, and I just thought "Now what?" I found a tower, and used it as a safe place to heal and protect myself while I fought the dragon. It was awesome, and I almost died once :D

The first one was at Whiterun the named dragon, I ran up to the top of the watchtower and started peppering it with arrows until it was at half health when I ran down and drawing my steel greatsword ran up to it and putting all my weight into the strike killed it, the guards had done most of the work by the time i'd ran down, still glorious.
The most intense was inside whiterun, i'd went to sell out the redguard fugitive and a large shadow flew past, I thought it was just a graphic spasm, until a blood dragon landed on the top of the inn and blasted the town white ice, sending everyone inside the guard rallied to fight the dragon peircing it's skin with arrows, myself including, until it could no longer fly and landed in the street, the guards, myself and a redguard called Amren ran up and started to hack at it, when it's body dissapeared and only the bones where left the towns people gathered around staring in awe, anxious that maybe it had living through the constant and vicious attack it had sustained.
I fought two once, halfway through the quest where you get incredibly drunk the first one I killed myself with a Skyforge battleaxe and the second assualted a Giant and his Mammoths who shook off the attack and kept walking on the Giant not seeming to care too much I sighed, it was down to me to fight the dragon after a fairly long fight it fell down dead.

The first soul absorbation was amazing watching the light swirl around me on screen in first person was amazing, and then hearing the shout from high Hrothgar as the rain started to fall.

Damn dragons. I encountered one in Ivarstead on the way to High Hrothgar. It had killed most of the village...

I was on my way to Winterhold and ran into a frost dragon. I am a level 6 Argonian with a focus on magic. 20 minute fight ensues with me making good use of the argonian water breathing. Finally won after spamming it with fire spells.

I never thought I would be able to beat a dragon at this low of a level on my own without guards or any help (playing on adept)

Beating a dragon by hiding in ruined shack. Like a BAWWSSSSS!

I love the northwind battle site.

I still get chills when I hear their roar. :)

It's rather disappointing when you fight dragons when you have the Disintegrate perk. They just fall apart and turn into a small pile of ash. No big skeleton or fancy soul-absorbing animation.

Besides the first encounter, I've only had one more run in with a dragon. Way out in the open with no cover it was just me, Lydia... and a stray mammoth. Funny enough, at first the dragon all but ignored me and started fighting with the mammoth while Lydia and I peppered it with arrows from behind. The mammoth seemed to shrug off all attacks until the dragon eventually gave up and came after the two of us. By then, though it was so weakened that we took it down in a few shots. After cleaning out the corpse, I walked around and found a dead pack of wolves and a very weak saber cat.
