Grand Theft Auto IV Boring?

Thu Jul 17, 2008 12:53 pm

I got Grand Theft Auto IV one week after it came out and i completed all the missions a few weeks after... Going around and shooting people isn't the same any more. Not to long ago i was playing San Andreas and killing people was fun! i even played GTA III liberty city and it was fun!!!

I know in GTA IV you can go do stuff with your friends. I know you can use computers and watch TV but thats just boring now!

I would rather sit in my room playing Pokemon then play GTA IV now!

tell me why it's boring now?

Oh God... wait till Tourist sees this. :P But it is boring, I played about 5 minutes of it and realised that, it just seems so... normal.

I think it's boring because it's basically the same game as the last one,
nothing new or different. But that's just me.

Edit: Btw, Gray Box, have you got XBL? If so then you can join the UESP leaderboard if you give ace your GT. :)

Edit: Forgot to tell you how to tell him. Just go to the thread "Official Clan of UESP 360ers" and post your GT, but you have to have a MGC account.

Within one week I was wanting to go back to Mass Effect and Vegas 2.
Within two weeks GTAIV was sitting on the shelf being ignored, in favour of two games I'd completed numerous times yet still had so much more to offer.

Sluggish controls, a still useless combat system, yet another damnable virtual New York, and a camera which is either too close or too far away make the entire experience just feel... wrong. The career-ending knockout blow for IV comes in this left-right combo: 1) less humour, 2) identical mission structure for the past DECADE.

Don't get me wrong, I admire the game for its ambition and scope - but it has absolutely no soul. I'm on the verge of trading it in for Lost Odyssey, and I've only unlocked the third island. Yet I feel no compulsion to back to Libery. That says it all.

^Absolutely; it bugged me that even some typically cynical review sources gave the game 9/10 or the full whack. My overall feeling from IV was not of 'awe' but 'deja vu'.

As for the combat; it may have been slightly improved, but there were still far too many times - particularly indoors - that the lock on system was more hassle than it was worth. And outdoors, there was STILL the age-old 'hey! why did I just put half a clip into a homeless guy?! and why is the cop/crim still shooting at me!'.

But the driving I liked; I was just massively, seriously disappointed they didn't implement the full in-car camera that was featured in the trailers. And to take away the user-radio option? THAT was the final insult . I've been used to that function since GTAIII on the Xbox, and they take it out for IV, the most technologically advanced GTA? Pathetic. That made me:  .

I've got to admit that I was one of the GTA:IV bandwagoners. Initially it seemed to live up to all the hype surrounding it. After a few weeks, though, it's kind of lost its luster for me. While the lack of a personal playlist is saddening, it's not as much of a hindrance as it seems to be to others. What is annoying is the targeting system. I can't even count how many times I ended up switching to freetarget because the stupid lock on was ruining the angle or flat out refused to target the person I wanted.

And the whole keeping your friends happy thing is just so old now. Just as others have said, one of my favorite things to do in GTA was just drive around for hours on end and checking out the sights in the city. Now it seems like every 20 minutes I'm getting calls from my needy "buddies" begging for some fun. If only I could introduce them to each other and be done with them. Even with the option turned off I found that I was losing influence with them but not receiving notification of it.

It was fun in the beginning, but then I got Mass Effect... and now I found a pristine copy of Knight of the Old Republic (part 1) for the Xbox... Needless to say, I don't think I'll be spending time in Liberty City for a while. :D

I find the prostitute pick up scenes to be very amusing,

Wow, that sounded creepy.
