I'm talking the old-ass PC games, not those pretenders that they made for console. I recently started clearing a bunch of stuff I got in storage at my Mothers house, and found the games, so needless to say I immediately installed them both on my laptop (I've got the original BG1 with 6 frickin discs) and have been jamming them ever since. Baldur's Gate 1 is fantastic, the world seems huge, and there is a reason to visit almost every single map in the game. Baldur's Gate 2 is just as great, only thing I don't like is NOT having all those extra maps to explore, but the new classes/races/spells/equipment more than made up for that. Oh, and DRAGONS! Feel free to give opinions, discuss, ask questions, or whatever. |

BigWorldMod!! It takes BGI, BGI ToSC, BGII and BGII ToB, adds thousands of mods to the games and then ports them all to the BGII ToB engine into one game. Yep - you heard me right!! And it's all done through an automated install that downloads all the components on its own - you just have to install and patch the games first. Hundreds and hundreds of hours spent, so many more to go |

Are you playing Baldur's Gate, or Tutu? Tutu's the only way to go, IMO. The experience is as close to vanilla as you can get, only you've got those lovely class/spell/equipmenty choices in BG1, and don't have to convert/edit your character once you get to BG2. |

I have BD 1 and 2 and have not yet played either of them. Though I think I couldn't get BD2 working...Or that may be Icewind Dale 1. |

Baldur's Gate? Ah! You mean the games I beat about 15 times each, right? Best PC RPGs ever made, in my honest opinion, and get way less attention than they deserve. Glad that someone's made a thread about it. |

Baldurs Gate is a LEGENDARY game. I still have my CD versions of the original to Throne of Bhaal. I still play it from time to time actually Did you guys know there's going to be a HD-Revamp of the entire series? I'm definitely looking forward to it |

So just out of curiosity, did anyone have a favoured race/calss that they used? (In either 1 or 2) In BG1 I liked Elven Rangers, or if I felt like a change Half-Elven Mage-Thieves (No particular reason why, I just find Fighters boring, and Mages/Thieves to weak as a pure class) In BG2 I liked Swashbucklers, Assassins, or Sorcerers. (Mainly cos the Thieves Guild and Planar Sphere are the 2 best Strongholds IMO) |

I have BG 1 and 2 but I never got around to play them. I wanna play them in order, obviously. Do you have tips on what character I should make? I'm not too good at it so not too complex builds :P |

It's not TOO hard, but you're not going to make a fighter with 18 INT, 17 WIS, 3 STR, and 3 CON, obviously. The game gives you pretty good recommendations on what to do no matter what class you pick. Pick what appeals to you and try to get used to the game. It's an older game and the difficulty's up there; there WILL be some unfair deaths, but it's a fantastic game and you won't regret playing it. Trust me. |

Now, I have played Neverwinter Nights, is that similar to how Baldur's Gate works? |

I completely agree with Doros, in that you can use ANY type of character to complete the game. (except a Druid. Man I sucked with one of those ) Although for a first-timer, I would probably recommend making a fighter of some kind, they are generally the easiest main character to use. And to whomever asked about character builds, just make sure that whatever your classes favoured attribute is, you make that 18. eg, Mage=18 Int. Fighter=18 Str. The bonuses you get for most classes having a high favoured stat, are very very handy. |

I used to like to be half-elven and multi classed for BGII so I could have romance with any of my romanceable NPCs and have greater choices for strongholds. Now with mods though the requirements for which (and how many) strongholds and which (and how many) NPCs you could romance is lifted. I normally never use mages, because it's so much work to keep the spellbook well-equipped, but I did really like my Sorceror playthrough. Thieves are a pretty tough choice to start with in BGII, but I think they work well in BGI and then if you import your character into II it won't be so anemic. The problem with dual or multi classing is that it limits how much you can put in proficiency toward one class' weapon |

I played a Chaotic Good, Melee-Oriented Elven Ranger. My main party in BG1 was Minsc, Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, and Dynaheir, without knowing that they were the canonical party. In BG2, I lost Jaheira in the first dungeon due to carelessness. Seemed like too good of a death to reload, so I just kept charging on without her. I went through several companions who did end up dying, and every death seemed so fitting that I didn't change anything. It was beyond epic at times. I ended the game with my LI Aerie, Anomen, Minsc, Imoen, Jan, and Keldorn. Going in to ToB, I replaced Jan with and hacked my way through the like a boss. An incredible boss. In the end, I chose to , and that was the end of it. That was my main character, anyway, I have about 10 more. |

Fire Acolyte, if you like Avernum you should love baldurs gate. And I don't think all of the avernum games put together have half the content of either of the BG games. And BG, BG SoA especially, is plenty pleasing to the eye. The graphics may not take advantage of modern hardware, but the game art is still well done. Great music too |

And some of the dialogue. BG2 Minsc+Jan=funniest [&@%!] in a video game EVER! |
