Wiki Tables[edit]

I was just wondering, does UESPWiki have markup for a hide-able table? I wanted to use one on my Sandbox to insert the colors seen on GK's Sandbox without making the page too long. --DKong27 Talk Cont 00:44, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Well we have the {{Showhide}} template, which works for many things. I keep meaning to copy across WP's table stuff but they've over-complicated things to a really stupid degree and I never get around to it. rpeh •TCE 09:58, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll see what I can do with it. Although I may just end up copying into another Sandbox if the page gets too cluttered. --DKong27 Talk Cont 15:52, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Huh?[edit]

Hey there, I was just checking out the beautiful new pages on the magic schools and I noticed that on the Conjuration page, there appears to be a list of books in the middle of the article... Is that intentional? --SerCenKing Talk 15:04, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Oops! Thanks for pointing those out. I might work them into the article later, but don't need 'em for now. rpeh •TCE 15:13, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Trail[edit]

Just cos I know you were working on them, I'm letting you know I prodded Template:Shivering NPC Trail, since I used {{Trail|People}} instead and created the relevant category... Hope this doesn't screw up any plans you had; the only changes is that the trail "Shivering:People" doesn't show up on the disambig Split pages. --SerCenKing Talk 15:11, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Good stuff. Not sure why I hadn't done that one myself. rpeh •TCE 15:29, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Vampire stuff[edit]

You mentioned here that we needed to find a better way to display the health and magicka values for vampires... Well, I gave it a shot here. Basically made the text small and tinkered about with % x column to wrap more on spells and inventory and give more space for health and magicka... What say you? --SerCenKing Talk 14:14, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Much better, although I think there's too much space to the left of each formula. Probably best to skip the wiki syntax and use <br/> tags instead. rpeh •TCE 14:25, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Hmmm, so you'd prefer to have the formulas right up to the borders? It looks a bit weird without bullets, and it looks terrible with bullets... In any case, you do know what this means, don't you? *wink wink* :P --SerCenKing Talk 15:05, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
I've tweaked it so it's centered. I think that's the best we're going to get without a total redesign. My concern is that there needs to be some way of linking the id on the left with the formulae on the right, or otherwise it looks random. With the small text, it all fits on one line (on my screen) so it's better than it was, although I realise many people will have much narrower windows. Anyway, if the *winking* was meant to be a way of asking me to fill in the other formulae, I remind you that you can do it yourself now, with this ;-) rpeh •TCE 15:25, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Ohhh, that's nice :) Didn't now that was up! I'll tinker about with it myself then. As for the changes - they look perfect, everything aligned on my screen. As a side note, I've been having a hard time deciphering the various scripts revolving around Gundlar, and in particular concerning the meal he is supposed to serve. If you could drop in here I'd much appreciate :) --SerCenKing Talk 21:21, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Enjoy that program! It seems to be okay but it's possible the odd bug might still be around.
Re Gundlar: Krusty already mentioned that one to me in IRC. I'll take a look now - I'm waiting for The Ashes to come on. rpeh •TCE 22:55, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
If we do decide to go for a total redesign (now or in the future), I played around with some formats in my sandbox. Not sure if I like any of them, but maybe they'll spark some other ideas. Robin Hoodtalk 23:29, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
I'm not quite sure those work either. I suspect something like Morrowind:Undead, with separate rows for each different type of creature and rowspans where the data is the same, is the way to go. rpeh •TCE 23:42, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

() Those are certainly cleaner-looking than the Oblivion ones or any of mine. Robin Hoodtalk 02:25, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Strange stuff[edit]

Can you check out this page or his talk page and see if you get a "new messages" sign? It's only happening when I go to that page and the last message I have was months ago. I informed him but thought I'd let you know, as you probably have an idea on what it is, whereas I don't.MikeTalk 22:54, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

He's hard-coded the New Messages box onto his user and talk pages. He's not the only one. Don't worry about it. rpeh •TCE 22:56, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Edit conflicts[edit]

Now I know I would have been a good Recent Changes Patroller, if I had more time to devote to it. After I fixed that Hackdirt edit, I looked at Recent Changes and saw your name on the edit, rather than mine, although the edit Note and everything were the same. Funny I didn't notice any edit conflict come up. --Brf 00:08, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

You should consider doing it - you can spend as much time as you have available. If your edit was the same as mine (and I guess we both did exactly the same thing) then you won't be notified of a conflict. I've had this several times on Wikipedia when I've reverted vandalism. rpeh •TCE 00:13, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, my edit was identical I guess. I figured out how to bring up the version from before the two edits and clicked the Edit button from there. My edit note was a little longer than yours though. It started out the same as yours and had a few more words tacked on the end. I hesitated to become a Patroller when I was nominated before, because I did not have Oblivion. Since then, I picked up a GOTY version for $10, but I have not installed it yet. That will be on my list of things to do later this month. --Brf 00:18, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Exactly how I did it - the software won't worry about the edit summary. Don't worry about Oblivion - a MW-specific patroller would be very useful, because otherwise it tends to come down to me. I think everyone would welcome a Daggerfall-only patroller! rpeh •TCE 00:24, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
You beat me again. I even used the word "transclusion" in my own edit summary :P --Brf 16:08, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
You beat me with one yesterday afternoon. It seems great minds think alike :) rpeh •TCE 16:11, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
Just had the same with Emoboy64. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 21:48, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Golden Saint Statistics[edit]

Hi, sorry to fill up your talk page, but seeing you're the most active "authority figure" on the site, I'd figure it necessary to ask for your opinion on the results of my work on the Golden Saint Statistics, found here. All the statistics should be complete and correct. I believe that images from in-game should be added, which I'd like to do myself, and brief descriptions should be added as well. Other than that, any suggestions, or is there something I didn't do right? ~ Dwarfmp 00:27, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Wow, that looks great! A huge improvement over what we've got. Suddenly all the sandbox edits I've seen make sense - I hadn't looked at the page until now. I'm not going to check it fully right now as it's late and I'm only awake to watch the cricket, but a couple of things stand out.
First, I'd use some subheadings. At the moment it's one huge page, and finding individual entries is very difficult. Useing "===" or "====" headings will split the page up and let the table of contents help navigation.
Second, one or two tables have a minor formatting error where the bottom line isn't appearing. This is usually caused by a missing cell or something similar. The tables after "Eleven dead Golden Saints found outside and inside Brellach during The Helpless Army:" and "Four dead Golden Saint Warriors inside Brellach during The Helpless Army, who will be revived through progressing:" have this problem. It's a tiny point, but always worth fixing.
Third, only 5 of the tables have non-standard spells. Instead of listing the same spell info in each box, it might be better to ditch that column and put a "†" or similar marker by the rows with different values, then have a footnote explaining the difference. This would probably mean that every row fits on one line, and would probably be easier to read.
Otherwise... again, a great job! Thank you! rpeh •TCE 00:39, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Hey, sorry to contact you on a late hour again, but I've worked on the issues you had last time, though I don't understand what you mean with the formatting errors. Anyway, I'm having a bit of a problem writing a summary about a particular kind of Golden Saint, which I have discussed here. Perhaps you may know more than we do? ~ Dwarfmp 23:15, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
I'm afraid I was already in the sweet embrace of Morpheus... or at least, trying to persuade him to give me a hug. I'll reply on Krusty's talk page to keep things in one place. rpeh •TCE 07:24, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
I've overhauled the Golden Saint page in my second sandbox. Krusty helped out with the layout, but he believes it still has some minor issues, mainly the 4 edit boxes being placed at the Spells section by the TOC. He thinks you can help. After that, it should be ready to be launched! ~ Dwarfmp 09:27, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I've tweaked it a little and although the edit buttons still don't go quite in the right places, there's not much I can do about that (without making stuff far too complex). Despite my earlier comments, I think the TOC was a little bit long anyway, and limiting it to the level 2 headings is probably the best plan.
The page looks seriously good, though. Definite FA material. Unless Krusty has any outstanding points, I think it's ready to go live. I'll give all the facts and figures a check when I've got time, but doing that on a train isn't practical - too much shaking to keep track of ids and stuff! The best plan might be to slap a {{peer review}} template on it to remind me (or anyone else) that the figures need a check. rpeh •TCE 09:56, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, it looks great. I guess I'll launch the page with that template. ~ Dwarfmp 10:05, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Changes on Different Servers[edit]

Not exactly a problem, but I am confused about something. I made an edit to my Sandbox earlier. Just a bit ago I typed in the URL starting http://uesp.net... and it showed up as the old version. Content1, Content2, and Content3, and even www. all showed the new version. Why would this be? --DKong27 Talk Cont 15:13, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure why uesp.net and www.uesp.net would show different versions, because they're the same server. It's more likely to be a caching issue with your browser, to be honest. There are occasionally caching issues between the different content servers, but usually waiting a little will sort them out. If not, purging the page will do the trick. rpeh •TCE 15:22, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Could be the browser...I'm at school and they have their network connected funny. Making easy things look complicated. I miss my Firefox add-ons. :( --216.56.62.4 16:39, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Daedric Banners[edit]

I noticed that several users, including yourself, have Daedric banners with their names on at their userpages. How can someone obtain one? --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 17:30, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

I did mine myself. Eshe did hers, GK's and a couple of others, I think. rpeh •TCE 17:32, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
How? Is there any sort of program or something? --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 17:34, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
I just used Paintshop to do mine. --Brf 17:35, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Me too. rpeh •TCE 17:48, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks![edit]

Hey rpeh! Just a thank you for all the link past disambig edits; I merely saved the new disambig page, then it knocked on the door and I had visitors - so I had to take a break for editing for 30 minutes. Anyway, I think it was the right thing to do as it seemed strange to have a creature page and a quest page with the exact same name - and the creature page already had the (creature) added to the page name. --Krusty 12:37, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

No problem. I was surprised how many there were though. rpeh •TCE 12:38, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Me too. When I clicked on "what links here" I thought; "oh my god". Anyway, another quick question: a LOT of pages states that The Sunken One can be encountered before the quest is initiated. I just tested it, and it does not happen in my GotY version; only way to encounter the Sunken One is by starting the quest. Is this some kind of "unpatched and old" information that we should get rid of - or do you know anything to back up the statements on the various pages? --Krusty 12:49, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Doesn't seem possible to me. The Sunken One is always present, but disabled until you pick up Slythe's Journal, page 3. That's on Slythe's body, and he isn't enabled until you start the quest. rpeh •TCE 13:38, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Gotcha. I'll remove the info from the pages. I'll check the "respawning"-thing of The Sunken One later on. Thanks once again! --Krusty 13:41, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Jakben revisited[edit]

Yeah, I know we buried him, but I have just followed him around and watched him do some very unexpected things, and I’m not really able to tell what is going on, so here I am. First of all; is it true that he will wander around the Talos Plaza District (10pm-2am) on Loredas?
Here comes the odd one; at 6am, I noticed that he went ahead and threw me out of the house, which always means that some package activates. Loading game, then followed him down into the basement, where he disappeared. Loading game, waiting for him in the basement. He came down there just after 6am and entered the Catacombs!!! These observations were made without the quest being initiated at all, but him venturing into the basement without a key does not really match our discoveries from earlier. As I’m unable to enter the Catacombs without the key, I was wondering if you could try locating him using the console? This is REALLY strange, but at least it proves (and I say this carefully) that I’m not a complete idiot for not being able to find him (very first question here). Anyway, for comfort, I moved all your CS observations about his schedule to this location. Hopefully, you can find the time and test this; the torture never stops! --Krusty 08:38, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Oh, and just to include every observation; I waited for him in the basement and he returned from the Catacombs at 6pm. --Krusty 08:51, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
Dammit, I thought we'd cracked this one. The only day-specific package he has is his 10pm-2am wander around the Talos Plaza package on Morndas, Middas and Fredas, although obviously that does spill over into Loredas on one day.
The other one: his sleep package runs from 6am to 6pm located in the basement. Except it's a wander package and there's no bed. It's odd that he can get through the door - I'll see if I can give it a test to see what happens. rpeh •TCE 09:37, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

MW Drain Intelligence glitch[edit]

I noticed that Sethiel added a bunch of notes related to Draining Intellegence to permanently gain Magicka. In my opinion, that glitch does not belong on the pages it was added to, and should only be mentioned on the glitch page. --Brf 14:39, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Was that what it was about? TBH, I saw all the formulae and closed the page. If that's what it was, then yes it should only be on the glitches page. rpeh •TCE 14:44, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
I will remove them then. --Brf 14:47, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

OPRP question[edit]

Okay, I have thought this through and I figured I would take a bit of responsibility for the deceased OPRP project - but to do so, I really need your help; or rather, RoBot's help, if it is even possible. As I have stumbled upon some terrible pages with the OPRP tag removed, I was wondering if it would be possible to make some sort of Category for pages completed by the OPRP? Merely a list of Places without the OPRP-tag, somewhat resembling the Final Review-section of the ONPCRP. I know that the pages gets updated (on rare occasions), but I will personally add them to the Category if needed. But first of all; is it even possible to make such a Category? Oh, and I thought about posting this on the CP or AN, but given the amount of interest in the project, I ended up here - we really need to get rid of this mess now. Hope you can find the time to help and forgive me if such a Category already exist; I have looked everywhere. --Krusty 11:42, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I can do that, but how about making it a little more OBNPCRP-like? I could change the current template to add a "written" param - or even "written" and "checked", if you like, and have the template hide itself if the params are filled in. Then we can have categories for all the possible states. Or do you just want the category? rpeh •TCE 12:02, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
I prefer the OBNPCRP type. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 12:03, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Well, if it is not too much trouble, then I think it is a brilliant idea - but it seems like an impossible task to figure out who wrote what at this point? Nevertheless, there is no doubt that the project is a mess and I think we should make an effort to get it back on track, ultimately without too much discussion on the AN or CP or the project page, as there is really not much to discuss. If we can make it just a bit more like the ONPCRP, then the project might attract newer editors (I just deleted a whole lot of painfully inactive project members), and maybe we can finally take off all the tags and, with a whole lot of effort, make the pages consistent. Any help would be appreciated - but some kind of Final Review-stage is definitely essential, given the amount of odd contributions and incomplete/useless walkthroughs. --Krusty 12:12, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Okay, since it's a one-shot template really, I'll add a "writtenby" param only. If the param is blank or missing, the page will go into Category:Oblivion Places Redesign Pages Needing Cleanup as normal. If it's filled in, it'll go in Category:Oblivion Places Redesign Pages Requiring Checking instead. I'll run it in a few mins so post quickly if you don't like that! ;) rpeh •TCE 12:21, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
At the moment, it seems like RoBot is including the Castle pages as well. Is that intentional? --Krusty 12:45, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Dammit, no. I've removed Guild halls, buildings, stables, settlements, inns, store, landmarks and houses... but I forgot castles. Just revert those. rpeh •TCE 12:46, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Seems like camps and chapels have the tag as well - revert manually? --Krusty 12:58, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Camps I left deliberately because I don't think they've ever been "officially" written. Chapels... yeah. Kill those too. Sorry about this. rpeh •TCE 13:01, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

() No problem at all. And good ideas with the camps - most of these pages need an overhaul anyway! --Krusty 13:03, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Okay, unless I forgot a few places, I have reverted all tags from irrelevant pages. Looks good to me! Of course, this new strategy should be included somewhere on the OPRP project page, as it should be made clear that a page is not finished until a second editor have at least read through the page (or should it be checked once more in-game?) and checked that all the information is correct - and then the hidden tag can finally be removed. I guess my next task is to read through all the "OPRP pages needs checking" pages for overly incomplete walkthroughs and then add the OPRP tag all over again. Are there any way to change the OPRP tag to say "Needs walkthroughs and in-game verification"? --Krusty 13:34, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Sure - just change the message on the {{cleanup-oprp}} template. Unless you mean you want another message rather than hiding the template? rpeh •TCE 13:49, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
It depends. What is the easiest way to inform people that the page is incomplete until it has been read through and checked? Personally, I'm sick and tired of the tags, so I kindda like that they are hidden - on the other hand, it needs a thorough explanation on the project page with a link to the Category. Let's see how it goes with this technique as I'd hate to see the tags back on the pages - I'll dedicate my free time for the next couple of days to read through the written pages and maybe even add the author - that shouldn't be so hard, although it will be a bit time-consuming. --Krusty 13:58, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Back from work with another question: Looking at the new Needs-Checking Category, it seems like a lot of Camps have found their way to that page. Any reason for that? In my honest opinion, 90% of these pages needs a rewrite (and some love), so shouldn't they be in the "ordinary" OPRP Category? --Krusty 20:46, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
The basic idea was that any place page without a cleanup-oprp tag had been "done" and the tag removed. Since the camps didn't have the tag, they got the "writtenby=Unknown" param, which marks them as done. Maybe not a great idea, now I think about it. rpeh •TCE 20:57, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
No worries, I can correct them when I go through the list. Speaking of, we might want to set an example for Camp pages and what they should contain. A lot of Shivering Isles camps are a lot more detailed than the OB ones, so it shouldn't be too hard finding inspiration. But that might be a discussion worth taking on the CP. --Krusty 21:47, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
I just read through each and every one of the Camp pages and found one(!) good page. It is this one. It contains a bit of nice info about the surroundings (the "love" I was talking about), info on respawning containers and even lists nearby plants, which I think is cool. What is your opinion on a page like this? Does it need additional info? A table for the plants? I'm asking because I am trying to set up the before mentioned example before taking this to the CP. --Krusty 00:51, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Campsites seem to have been a bit neglected in the past, but I suppose the other place types are rather more important.
I'm honestly not sure of the best way to do ingredients. Pages like Shetcombe Farm look odd, somehow. Perhaps the headline followed by a thin table isn't the best way to do it. On the other hand, I just found that we don't even list ingredients at Whitmond Farm or Odiil Farm so it looks like we have the opportunity to come up with a good layout and use it everywhere. Isn't this great? We were all running out of things to do, after all... :/ rpeh •TCE 07:22, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

() Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing - good thing that we are really bored without much to do around here! ;) Anyway, I added the authors name to said camp and wanted to make sure, before I go through each and every dungeon page doing the exact same thing, that this is the way it is supposed to be done? Do I need the link to the author or is it enough with just writtenby=SerCenKing, as opposed to a full link? --Krusty 07:55, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Doesn't really matter just as long as we're consistent. I suppose since the template auto-hides as soon as the name is put in, just the name would do, but we're probably so used to putting in a full link that we'll end up doing that anyway. rpeh •TCE 08:04, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Hello again! Nice new project you have created - looking forward to follow the progress! Anyway, one final request and then I'll leave this talk page alone - or at least this topic. After talking with SerCenKing - and after my recent spree through all Place pages from A to E, it seems like a very good idea to add a "checkedby="-param to the existing OPRP-tag. Of course, I looked at the Template and quickly realized that I have absolutely no idea how to do that, so better safe than sorry. As mentioned elsewhere, I think a third Category (listing the pages with checkedby= filled out) would be a great idea, making the OPRP so much easier to cope with, so I really hope you can find the time and add this final param to the Template and create the needed Category. Thanks in advance! --Krusty 22:47, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Okay, done (I hope): there's now a "checkedby" param. If both params are filled in, the template is hidden and pages go into the Oblivion Places Redesign Pages Requiring Final Review category. rpeh •TCE 22:58, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Thank you so much! What happens next is that I'll try and find an agreement with SerC about what needs to be done in the "checking"-phase. It shouldn't really be necessary for another User to go through an entire five-zone dungeon to mark a walkthrough as "checked" - maybe just a thorough comparison between the map and the walkthrough, a bit of what you did on Aichan recently. Thanks again! --Krusty 23:05, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Another quickie before bedtime; as I'm on a spree, I have discovered a few incomplete maps - I added a cleanup-tag to two of them, while I added a minor question to my edit summary when I rewrote the Barren Cave page. Is this the way to go? If not, where should I put observations like that? --Krusty 00:11, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
I'd say the cleanup tag is the way to go. It's not perfect, but it lets us use an existing mechanism instead of having to create a new one. The names of the maps (OB-map-*) will make it clear which are images needing cleanup and which are maps needing new stuff. Since I imagine that for most of the maps, it'll either be me or SerC who ends up making the fix, that should be fine.
If there's something lengthy that needs describing, I'd suggest mentioning it on the talk page and noting the fact that you've done so in the tag. I doubt there will be too many of those, though. rpeh •TCE 00:44, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply; I'll try and limit it to the cleanup-tags for now (after all, I have had about 3 cases so far) and if questions like the removable wall inside Barren Cave pops up, I might make a personal Notepad for the OPRP, just to keep track. --Krusty 06:45, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Job for RoBoT[edit]

I have a new job for RoBoT, to replace all the manual quest links at the "Related Quests" sections with links that use the Quest Link template. What do you think? --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 20:49, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Nice idea, but it'd be quite tricky to write. I might give it a go at some point, but I'm not sure it's worth it for only a few pages (if any). rpeh •TCE 20:58, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
I've seen many pages that do this, especially at Morrowind namespace. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 20:59, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Well maybe I'll take a look then. It's not easy though. Probably easier to generate a list then fix them by hand. rpeh •TCE 21:06, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good. RoBoT will make a list and we (I if you don't want to) will fix them. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 21:12, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

I just acquired Oblivion for PC and I was wondering if there is a way to switch out of the game window while playing. It would make it easier to look up codes and what not. I hope it isn't really obvious, since it took me like 15 minutes to realize that the Start Menu is Esc...so not used to PC games. --DKong27 Talk Cont 03:11, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

I can't switch out of the window. If it happens, when I go back in the game window, the game is frozen and the only thing I can do is turn around. Literally everything in the game is frozen, nothing moves. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 06:08, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
In theory, ALT-TAB or CTRL-ESC should switch you out of the game. In practice, the game will probably crash. I've learned to use one computer for playing the game and another to surf the wiki. Or, if I'm trying to save electricity, I use a pen and paper instead of the second computer. You wouldn't believe how many old envelopes get covered with strange, 8-character hex sequences! If the security services ever go through my rubbish, they're going to assume I'm a foreign agent or something. rpeh •TCE 07:13, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
I have a small technical problem, sometimes when I close Oblivion, instead of just exiting, a message comes up saying that Oblivion encountered a problem and had to close. Any ideas? --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 07:20, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
I get the same thing. In my case it happens after I install more than about 15 mods, and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it. rpeh •TCE 07:23, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
I personally don't use much mods (only one not made by me, Midas). However, this was happening even when I was playing vanilla, no mods, official plugins and Shivering Isles. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 07:29, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
This error message, -program in question- has encountered a problem, is not exclusive to Oblivion. It basicly states that the application that was running failed to meet the normal end-program code but yet still ended. Any unsaved data, or data in the midsts of saving, is lost. I have gotten this message on, Internet Explorer, Spore, FallOut 3, FO3NV, Oblivion, Civilization 4, VLC media player, maybe more. It happens more often when multiple programs are running.--184.59.231.111 07:45, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
I thought about that too, but it happens only at my Oblivion, so it bugged me. It happens no matter if I have other programs running or not. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 07:49, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Also happens frequently while opening and closing processer heavy applications, IE Oblivion (or 24 internet tabs). Hitting ALT F4 closes the game and causes the message to appear for me every time for all my Bethseda games and some others too (having mods for them increases the likelyhood of this occurrence). It is nothing to fret over.--184.59.231.111 08:07, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
I've had great success by hitting Esc so that the game is paused and then Alt-TAB out, look at my local files and stuff (WINDOWS is not connected to the net) and then Alt-TAB back to Oblivion and Esc to unpause the game. WINDOWS is Vista. As for the crash when closing, it happens occasionally when I quit the game, not very often. -- MartinS 92.254.208.123 20:12, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Etymology[edit]

Hi, Rpeh. Is it acceptable to have etymology sections in articles on NPCs? Jayden Matthews 17:20, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

The criteria we've developed over time is that an etymology has to be relevant to a character's role in some way. So, for instance we mention that "Skjorta" means "shirt" because she's a clothes seller. Everything else should go on the [[Lore:Etymology]] page. rpeh •TCE 10:16, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
I see, thank you. The one that sprang to mind was Amiable Fanriene, whose first name is also a word meaning a person of meek or mild disposition, and also someone who is agreeable and easily persuaded. I though that was particulary fitting, given his somewhat cowardly nature. Jayden Matthews 11:18, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Imperial City Picture[edit]

How did you got a picture with all cells loaded? --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 11:59, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

The Really Almost Everything Viewable When Distant mod. It really makes the game look stunning, but can melt your processor if you're not careful. rpeh •TCE 12:26, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. And a funny small unrelated thing, Ratwar confused accounts with IPs many times. See here, here, here, here, here, here and here. There are many other cases, but I am too bored to write them all. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 12:39, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes I know. He wasn't very careful about that kind of thing. rpeh •TCE 12:42, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
True. I know he put the hell ot of you with all those sockpuppet and personal attack stuff. He was a good editor, but he did not returned. You did. I don't know why I am bringing this matter up again, I just have a need to express my feelings about the situation (archives are not supposed to be edited, so...). --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 23:01, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Okay, thank you. Can we stop there though? I'd rather not bring everything up again. It's all water under the bridge now. rpeh •TCE 23:03, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Yup, I'll stop. My needs are satisfied now. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 23:05, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Spike Video Game Awards[edit]

UESPWiki:News/Skyrim Spike – Is there any way I could prepare this for the Main Page? --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 01:40, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, you're faster than I am. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 01:41, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
E/Ced etc. I used a different title because it's important to keep titles to the relevant words: Spike will be forgotten within a day, but the fact that TESV is released will be with us for the next 5 years. rpeh •TCE 01:49, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Right. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 01:52, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Tag on Templates[edit]

I was looking at some of the code on some templates and I saw a few instances of a <cleanspace> tag. I looked around but I couldn't find any description of it. What does this tag do? --DKong27 Talk Cont 04:28, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

It's specific to UESPWiki—at least so far, the creator was planning on releasing it publicly at some point last I heard. See UESPWiki:MetaTemplate#Tag Functions for more information. The main reason it's used is to format the code of a template much more nicely. Robin Hoodtalk 05:07, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
I see. That would be convenient. --DKong27 Talk Cont 05:24, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Template Usage[edit]

I used the code you had here to make a userbox template in my userspace. I changed it a bit, including making it a sentence, and putting the day number end thingy in underlined superscript. I knew HTML basics would help somewhere. --DKong27 Talk Cont 04:49, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

There's another version of it in Template space as well at {{ESDate}}. Robin Hoodtalk 05:09, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
I had looked at that template, but I like rpeh's better. Much cleaner; easier to see and work with. --DKong27 Talk Cont 05:24, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, mine was geared towards adding options, but it definitely uses more complex template code. It looks a fair bit clearer without the various options in there. (See here if you're curious.) Robin Hoodtalk 06:56, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

PC Icon[edit]

Why did you changed it? If you didn't like it, you could have changed it only at your userbox. I personally don't like the new image, I prefer the old one (I know it's not an image, but an id). --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 11:07, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Actually, if you look at the previous version, you'll see that there was no icon at all - just the letters "PC". I don't particularly like the new graphic either, but it's better than text.
If you're talking about the old Windows logo version, it hasn't been around since August, when it was deleted as a result of this discussion. rpeh •TCE 11:11, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
I just said that I know it is not an image, just letters. What I am talking about is if I should revert back to the letters. Perhaps a discussion at the talk page? --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 11:40, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
You're kidding, right? rpeh •TCE 11:53, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
No. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 11:54, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Rigas, you do realize that ESV was just announced and that the entire Wiki is buzzing with unneeded activity? I don't think you can stir up too much of a discussion about a PC icon right now. --Krusty 12:07, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
I'm definitely more for an image than text, maybe use an improved version of this image? --SerCenKing Talk 12:08, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Yup, it is better. I'll make the change. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 12:14, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
I did it, but it requires bigger analysis. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 12:18, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
That icon was too small and looked really bad when resized. I've uploaded a better one. Your challenge now is to find something less important to argue about. rpeh •TCE 12:56, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Dovahkiin - main page talk.[edit]

Ok, having the talk page for the main page locked isn't the brighting idea IMO. Anyways, Bethesda confirms it is "Dovahkiin" via Twitter. --Deuxhero 20:23, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

The main page was locked because 99.5% of the time, people posting there shouldn't have been posting there. Even now, the talk page for the news article is unlocked and comments can be made there. Anyway, thanks for the confirmation. rpeh •TCE 20:37, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

FS service time changes[edit]

Hey I'm working on checking the infected NPC's from the FS plugging changes thing (this) and I've hit a stump with Gundalas' checking. Because he uses the aaaDefaultExploreEditorLoc768 package, I need to check him at his wondering times. I was wondering if you could check the CS to see what these times are as I do not have access to it. Thanks in advance (Sorry if my explanation confused you) - Emoboy64 21:52, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

It looks like there's a bug in his schedule because his sleep package is below the wander package. Either he wanders from 10pm-midnight or from 10pm-6am. It needs in-game checking. rpeh •TCE 22:16, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Ah ok, thanks! I'll check that when I can - Emoboy64 22:22, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Console Command[edit]

I just started using Oblivion for PC. For some reason, whenever I use the kill or killall command, it does kill, but also outputs:

The player is not in the SE world
GetIsSex >> 1.00
GetIsRace >> 0.00

Also, if using killall, it will return this for each character killed. Do you know what this is? --DKong27 Talk Cont 03:34, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

I get the same myself, but I've no idea why it appears. rpeh •TCE 06:47, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Unprintable character[edit]

In the quest headers, whenever the Quest giver is "[someone] ? wherever you rested", I am seeing an unprintable character where I have the "?". That would be Tribunal:Dark_Brotherhood_Attacks and the Bloodmoon Werewolf ones and maybe some more. --Brf 18:16, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm seeing this too. More specifically like this: "Automatic upon attack wherever you rested". --DKong27 Talk Cont 18:29, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
I hadn't noticed those before. Looks like HotnBOThered had a little problem when it was merging the start and giver params. In that particular case, I'd just change it to "Automatic upon attack" and forget the rest - unless you can think of a better phrase. rpeh •TCE 18:30, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
Well... The Tribunal one is triggered by resting, the Bloodmoon ones are given in your sleep. Since we are no longer using the giver+location format it can probably be reworded easier. --Brf 18:34, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
It seems to have been a cut & paste error along the way somewhere. I believe it's caused by UltraEdit, as I've seen that sort of thing from it before, though I can't reproduce it at the moment, at least not with an em dash. The behaviour seems to be a little erratic that way. In any event, I've asked HnB to re-download all the Quest Headers, then I'll scan for either the funky question-mark or a regular one and correct any that need it. At a glance, it looks like you guys have gotten them all already, but if I find any others, I'll fix them. Robin Hoodtalk 21:05, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
All checked. You guys got them all. Robin Hoodtalk 22:29, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for checking, and thanks to Brf for spotting and fixing the problems. rpeh •TCE 22:31, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
Oops...that's so me to focus on the task and not thank everyone involved. Thanks for the spot/fix and for bringing it to rpeh's and my attention guys! Robin Hoodtalk 00:20, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Ribbons[edit]

Out of general curiosity what are the requirements to gain a 'ribbon'? And do you hand them out or what? If so I think Krusty deserves one for the at least the ONPCRP. Thanks, and I like the idea - Emoboy64 23:13, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Looks like I was writing my CP post while you were writing this. I hope it answers your question. rpeh •TCE 23:15, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Stupidity isn't a blockable offense, but if this keeps up I'm going to give a very short block so the IP concerned knows to read pages properly before posting nonsense. rpeh •TCE 23:46, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
What about all those run-together cheat postings on the Talk pages. They do not belong there do they? --Brf 02:26, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
Not sure which one you mean unless it was the one I just reverted... Talk pages can usually be used to mention cheats.... oh boy. the whole what is/isn't allowed is more than I can do right now (my whisky bottle is 2/3 empty) rpeh •TCE 02:42, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
I mean the one on the Vivec(god) page, where he tells the Xbox cheats to refill health and stuff. Brf 02:45, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
@Rpeh: Is that the reason, or the cause?--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 02:46, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

News Items[edit]

Just wanted to let you know, I decided to include a link to the announcement video in the previous news item instead of adding the one you proposed. It was completely a matter of personal opinion, though, so feel free to revert the changes to the news article if you think that's better, and I (or someone else) will add the other item to the Main Page. Thanks for keepin' up with all the latest news! --GKtalk2me 03:40, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

No probs. I guess we poor writers have to learn what it's like to have a tough editor in charge of the paper ;) rpeh •TCE 10:03, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Essential NPCs[edit]

I am trying to figure out how to make NPCs essential, or actually non-essential, but I cannot get it to work. The problem is with the BaseID. How do you know the BaseID of a character in-game? Selecting the character with the console doesn't seem to help. --DKong27 Talk Cont 04:34, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure you can get the baseid in game. You can get it on UESP though ;) Each NPC has a "baseid" in their character infobox. rpeh •TCE 10:01, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
One character I wanted make non-essential is from a mod i downloaded, so they are not on the wiki unfortunately... --DKong27 Talk Cont 13:42, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
Ah. You'll have to get the id using the construction set then. Sorry. rpeh •TCE 13:44, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

1.1.511 Needed for 1.20416?[edit]

A few hours ago, my best friend called my at his house to see why only few of the plugins he downloaded worked. I checked the game, and he is using a totally unpatched version. The not working plugins require 1.1.511. Here's what bugs me, will the plugins work if I give him 1.20416? Or I will have to search the web for 1.1511? --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 16:41, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Yup. The patches are backwards-compatible, so if you have 1.2 you automatically have 1.15. rpeh •TCE 09:30, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 10:15, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Dammit, I thought I fixed that. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll do it now. rpeh •TCE 18:12, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Done. I think I'd made a mental note to do it then plain forgot. rpeh •TCE 18:16, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Cool. I saw you had to split it all up. I was not sure how to do it myself. Once of these days I will learn all of those templates... --Brf 18:25, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Fighters stronghold NPC service time changes[edit]

As you may or may not have been aware of I have been working on checking the affected NPC's from the FS bug thing. If you look at this rather old conversation it may refresh your memory on the subject. Anyway I am now done with the checking and have compiled a list, which I now think is ready to be taken to the next stage. Krusty has some ideas on the next stage so if you could look through my list and have a chat with Krusty about where to go next with it, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks - Emoboy64 00:40, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

That looks like some seriously good work there - thanks! I'll try to chat to K, but I dunno how much I'll be able to do on the site over the next few days. I'm off to Scotland for holidays with the family tomorrow. Usually I can get some good stuff done on the train but since I can't sleep because I'm too excited about the third Ashes test, I'll probably be asleep on the train instead. I'm sure I'll exchange a few words with him soon enough though. rpeh •TCE 00:48, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the praise and there isn't too much of a rush to contact Krusty. Thanks in advance for when you do and I hope you have fun on your holidays - Emoboy64 00:53, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Just to chime in here; Emo, that is excellent work and it seems like our "huge" problem comes to an end soon. Rpeh, my only "idea" was from that very conversation a long time ago - scroll down and check out the last 5 posts. Basically, our plan was to make some kind of extended NPC Summary table for the NPCs affected (infected?) by the Fighters Stronghold-plugin. Nevertheless, looking at the FS logo, it looks a bit "worn" and not really suitable for a table, even if I'm still in favor of an extended table of some sort. Also, an added Note on each page (along the lines of: "(NPC name) is one of several service providers affected by the Fighters Stronghold plug-in; see the Edit Summary for the alternative service times". Something like that? Anyway, no rush or anything - it's christmas! --Krusty 20:33, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

External Link?[edit]

After doing this edit I got a message saying there was an external link and it made me fill out a recaptcha box. Is that supposed to happen? Mxk101 22:19, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Okay, Where's The News?[edit]

I've been trying to get to the news page for Skyrim being announced but I can't find it. Can you link me to it please?--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 22:53, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

All the news are here. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 22:55, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Or how about the front page of the site? rpeh •TCE 23:05, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
I needed to see how the 'poem' thing was formatted, so the main page didn't work. It had to be the actual page.--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 23:07, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

New User[edit]

This new User has been making some edits that I question, but can't prove either way. Particular the ones about Kaz and Ciirta having the Greeting Bug. I see no reason why they would, as they don;t fit the list on its page, but I'm not sure. --DKong27 Talk Cont 02:41, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

I've deleted those notes. It might be true under certain circumstances, but then almost any SI NPC can get the glitch at certain times. Not worth including. rpeh •TCE 10:32, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Doorkeeper?[edit]

Hey rpeh! I have no idea why, but last night I started to write an NPC page for the Doorkeeper found inside Lake Arrius Caverns, just to see if I could gather enough information to justify an entire page. I was wondering if you could give me an opinion - and maybe lend me a hand filling out the NPC Summary table? My work can be found HERE. Thanks in advance! :) --Krusty 15:47, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Looks good to me! I've filled in the missing params for you. rpeh •TCE 18:25, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! I launched the page and filled out the OBNPCRP tag, adding you as author to Factions. :) --Krusty 19:19, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
I've checked most of the page but I have one question for rpeh. According to his script, shouldn't he be disabled after Harrow has initiated you (Stage 40) or is that to disable him after the quest is done, in case you haven't killed him? --SerCenKing Talk 13:03, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Ah yes. I didn't look at the scripts. He does indeed get disabled after stage 40, and he only gets given a Shrine of Dagon Key at stage 10. One odd thing: his aggression gets adjusted to 50 at stage 41 or 51, but he should be disabled by then. rpeh •TCE 13:17, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Yeah that's exactly what I thought but from the page it looks like Krusty saw him attack after Stage 40... I'll wait till he pops in then. --SerCenKing Talk 13:25, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
I'm on it. Right now I'm busy spying, but I'm 80% sure the Doorkeeper was still around after Harrow accepted me (and I went back outside to pick up my Chameleon equipment). I'll be back! --Krusty 13:31, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

() Okay, it seems like he is disabled at some point; not immediately after receiving the quest update stage 40, but probably the moment you enter the Shrine Antechamber with Harrow. I loaded a save at quest stage 60 and he was gone, so I'm pretty sure about that, although the door back to Lake Arrius Caverns locks automatically behind you when you enter the first time, and can not be unlocked - so basically I can't check it to be 100% sure. --Krusty 14:02, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Yup, it's got to be stage > 40, not >=, so he should still be around until 41 (or other) is set. rpeh •TCE 17:45, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

I was just having a discussion.[edit]

Oh right. Deride my form of response, even though I haven't broken into petty name-calling. (Like calling an NPC a "retard".) Yes, you say "technically it isn't an ad-hominem" because the NPC isn't real. That only makes the insult all the more foolish.

Now by what you're saying: I can now go on every NPCs page and call them petty childish names? This is ridiculous. Here's the final measure: I told Brf he could also feel free to delete my comments on his talk page. Somehow you missed that. 70.114.63.215

I didn't "miss" it because I posted first. Now stop wasting site time or you'll be blocked. rpeh •TCE 17:44, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

A few questions[edit]

I just remembered I was meant to ask you a few questions, so here we go. As you can see here, I've been tackling the Tutorial dungeon; and while I'm basically finished, one or two things, mostly to do with maps, are holding me back.
Firstly, is there any consensus on how to name dungeon doors? I seem to recall that we started from C and then carried the letter of the door going, say, from the first level to the second onto the map of the second level. And then so on and so forth with D, E etc.
Second, I've been adding to some of the maps you did, but I'm having to scavenge for letters and stuff from some SI overlays I've got, which results in inconsistent naming and the letters look different from yours. How do you do yours? Do you just write in Word and then paste in a transparent raster layer in PSP?
Third, I've been trying to figure out how to calculate the distance of the Map Marker in an exterior from the door. I assume you derive it form the X, Y, Z data in the CS but having looked at other exteriors, I can't seem to find the link... Any ideas? Thanks in advance, and hope its not too cold up there in Scotland! --SerCenKing Talk 13:38, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

For most of those questions the answer is "That's the way Nephele did it" :) She was the one who came up with all the data - I just grabbed the maps then pasted her overlays onto them.
In general, I think the door labels start from "C", although I think one or two of the ones I did manually started at "A" instead - I don't think it matters much.
I do my manual overlays totally in PSP. Create an extra, transparent, layer then put some Arial (bold? can't remember) text on it in the necessary colour.
I'm not sure what link you mean in the third one. Again, I'm not sure how Nephele did it, but I assume it's a Pythagoras job on the X/Y/Z distance between the door and the map marker. For instance, at Anga you have AngaExRef (the door) and AngaMapMarker (the map marker). Subtract one set of X/Y/Z coords from the other, square each set, add 'em together and take the square root.
It's bloody cold in Scotland! Looks like it's not too great in London either though. rpeh •TCE 18:37, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Right, thanks for those :) I thought it was something to do with trig, but I was hoping to avoid maths till I got back to college :P By "link" I meant what "connected the dots", or the method - sorry for the confusion! It's freezing here too, and I've had my flight to Italy cancelled twice! Hopefully I'm leaving on Thursday, which is still 5 days late :( --SerCenKing Talk 18:44, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Screenshots[edit]

I was hoping you could help me with Oblivion PC. I am trying to take screenshots, just whatever is funny or interesting so I'm not doing specialty ones or anything. I changed the Oblivion.ini so that bAllowScreenShot=1. When I use the Prt Scr button, the message comes up, ScreenShot1.bmp saved, and on for more, but I can't find these anywhere. I searched the computer and there is nothing matching the name anywhere. What could be going on? --DKong27 Talk Cont 01:43, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

The screenshots are saved in the Oblivion program directory (eg, C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion) and if they aren't there, I'm going to guess that you're running Vista or Windows 7. Try the suggestions here and let me know what happens. rpeh •TCE 08:41, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, it worked perfectly! I am running Windows 7 too, by the way. --DKong27 Talk Cont 16:22, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
Good! Still on Vista myself but the same thing works on both. rpeh •TCE 18:27, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Bow Damage PS3[edit]

Hey there! I just tested the odd bow phenomenon on the PS3 and it seems to be true. I tested it with an Amber Bow made by Cutter (no damage after 25 arrows fired) and with a Steel Bow with Steel Arrows (no damage after some 125 arrows fired). For the record, I have Marksman as a major skill and is an apprentice with 43. I find this thing rather odd, but I am too tired to locate the conversation right now, and I figured there could be more to test anyway. Please let me know if there is. --Krusty 07:10, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Hmm. Very odd. I wonder how and why that was changed. rpeh •TCE 10:20, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
I checked the changelogs for all the official patches, but I can't find anything that is really related. I figured that some bugs may have been solved differently for the PS3 (since the patches are automatically integrated). Or could this be to the GotY edition instead? We do know that the PS3 version features at least one other significant difference (the newly introduced Vampire Cure quest bug). --Timenn-<talk> 10:36, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Well, I'm on the GotY edition PS3 version, and I can't check the vanilla version. Have this "problem" ever been reported by any Xbox Users? --Krusty 10:53, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
What exactly is the behavior? I have plain Oblivion for the PS3 so I could check this if I knew what it was.--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 10:57, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
It is the fact that bows do not take any damage when you use them, opposite all other versions where you will have to get them repaired eventually. In my version (as mentioned in the very first post), I could simply fire away and the bow stayed at 100 no matter what. Would be really great if you could fire a good amount of arrows, just to check if it is the GotY edition only. --Krusty 11:19, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
(e/c) The question is: do bows become damaged by firing arrows on the PS3. On the PC/XBox, even firing one arrow will usually take a bow's health from 100 down to 99. This doesn't seem to happen on the PS3
The only thing I can think of that would change this without requiring a change in the game engine itself is a Game Setting. There's fDamageWeaponConditionBase and fDamageWeaponConditionMult, which might have something to do with it, and there might be others. Maybe something got changed by accident. rpeh •TCE 11:21, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

A small question[edit]

I almost finished my spells mod and I've been wondering, will changes that I made at my Ini Settings also affect Ini Settings of people that installed the mod? Because I don't want to screw up people's games. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 10:42, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Nope. Ini settings aren't part of the mod (unless you include the Ini file in a ZIP file or something) so you'll be okay. rpeh •TCE 11:22, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 14:31, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

PC Graphic Error[edit]

I was hoping you could help me with a graphical error on Oblivion PC. Now I have a decent computer running Win 7, but it is not what would be called a gaming computer. The lowest scores are in the gaming areas. That said, I have things tuned down a bit to run better. I have a tendency to use tlb (Toggle Lite Brite), especially in dungeons. It also helped a lot in exteriors where there was a lot of scenery to load. I was adjusting some settings and now when a tlb in some exterior cells only, there are large areas of flat, untextured land, similar to what is seen when tcl-ing out of an cell with surrounding areas. It appears as a mass over the land. When underneath it, it becomes invisible. This makes it hard to travel outside, as I have to choose between laggy or unseeable. I can't think of any settings that would do this. All I changed right before this happened would be in-game options, such as grass distance and sight distance of objects. Also, sorry for the long post. --DKong27 Talk Cont 03:19, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

I've not used that mod, so I don't know what's going on. It sounds like the problem you get when you uninstall a mod and the game is still expecting to see some landscape files that are no longer present. Try renaming (don't delete) the ArchiveInvalidation.txt file in your game program directory. That might fix the problem but it might screw other stuff up. If you've got OBMM, use the archive invalidation utility in that to regenerate the file properly. And good luck - it can be a real pain to get the game working again when this kind of thing happens. rpeh •TCE 12:35, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

1.2.[edit]

See this please, I want your opinion. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 12:41, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Sounds like the same kind of archive problem I described above, but I dunno. rpeh •TCE 13:21, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Another weird thing is that it was fixed when I installed SI. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 13:24, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
