Arena[edit]

Thanks -chuckles- I was starting to get worried, heh. DaedryonTCE 02:05, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

Hey[edit]

Hey, i was wondering if you could look at my question here, and answer it on my talk page? thanks. Jesus loverTCEJS 02:09, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

Oh, I found a page that had a verification needed sign on it, and I can verify that it is accurate, how should I go about this? Just delete the tag and state that I verified it in the edit description? Jesus loverTCEJS 02:18, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

Anybody is welcome to help out, and there's no need to be part of a group to do so. The mentors are more to do with helping new users than doing things on the site and in any case, you aren't ready yet because you don't have 200 edits outside your user space. :Removing verification tags is fine, but you need to make sure you have verified what was being asked. With the Staves one, you've got the right idea although the method used is... unscientific... and could probably benefit from retesting. I've reinstated the tag on Arkved's Tower though, as what needs verifying is whether or not the sound is heard anywhere else. If it's a common sound, it doesn't need mentioning on the AT page.
It's always good to see people wanting to help, but what's even better is when we get enough information to ensure somebody else doesn't have to go and retest what has been tested. Have fun though! –RpehTCE 04:13, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

Alright thanks. Jesus loverTCEJS 17:41, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

Lore: Gods A[edit]

Hello, you just deleted something in Lore: Gods A, because you couldn't find a source. Is this the source you were looking for?: http://www.imperial-library.info/obscure_text/aldudagga.shtml It's a text by MK so I'm not sure if this is canon by UESP standards.

Apophis2412 08:36, 2 August 2008 (EDT)Apophis2412

Thank you - it helps when the sources are correctly spelled. No, that's not the sort of thing that ought to be on the site. –RpehTCE 08:38, 2 August 2008 (EDT)

Lore[edit]

Just wondering, what is with this sudden increase in the popularity of Lore? Why is RoBoT going around replacing "Tamriel" with "Lore"? Are we completely phasing out the Tamriel until it's 100% gone, and replacing it all with "Lore"? Cheers! DaedryonTCE 23:08, 2 August 2008 (EDT)

See here and here. -BenouldTC 23:20, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
It was bound to happen anyhow. It's been a few years since Oblivion came out, and several months since the last official mod, so we're kind of running out of anything new to say about the games themselves. I guess it's kind of natural that we'd start focusing more on the Lore, since that's been the site's biggest deficiency in the past. Until TES V comes out, or some as-yet-unannounced expansion or another official mod for Oblivion (just becaused they announced that Battlehorn Castle was the last doesn't mean they won't change their minds later), we're probably going to end up doing a lot more in the Lore (né Tamriel) namespace than anywhere else, I'd imagine. --TheRealLurlock Talk 23:49, 2 August 2008 (EDT)

Caught in the Hunt[edit]

"Undo two edits - it's not a bug that Ursanne isn't essential but it IS a bug if a character that should show up doesn't do so"

I'm sorry, but I (respectfully) disagree. The fact that Ursanne isn't essential can break the quest! You are told to find her, but that's impossible, so the quest can never be completed. I'd call that a bug. (At a minimim, it should at least be mentioned in Notes).
As for the other point, if an unnecessary character doesn't show up, the quest is not affected in the slightest, and can conclude as normal. If it is a bug, it's barely a bug. Vlad the Imperial 11:34, 3 August 2008 (EDT)

I think we have a different definition of "bug". The archer not appearing is something that is supposed to happen but, occasionally, doesn't. That's a bug in my book even though it has no bearing on the quest outcome. The first one is closer, but people dying isn't a bug. Compare with Buying a house in Skingrad: there, when Shum gro-Yarug walks off the bridge and dies I'd say it's a bug. That's clearly behavior that isn't meant to happen. If he gets into a bar brawl and dies, however, it's just bad luck and not a bug. –RpehTCE 06:40, 4 August 2008 (EDT)
Ok, I'll accept that. I at least think it should be mentioned in the Notes section though, so I've added it in there instead. Vlad the Imperial 08:10, 4 August 2008 (EDT)
Meh. Fair enough, I suppose. –RpehTCE 08:34, 4 August 2008 (EDT)

Patrollers[edit]

Are every patroller looking over a certain area. I mean, like, do patrollers have assigned routes that they take between pages when patrolling? You see, sometimes when I am asking a question on a discussion page, I don't get an answer. Or am I just writing when everyone is doing something else? -Goblin lair 21:21, 4 August 2008

You can't expect every question to get an answer. We answer what we can but there are only so many hours in the day and only so much we can do. Sometimes the answer would just be "I don't know", which isn't really worth posting. There's also a concept of answering by not answering. Your question here is a good example. I've not had the problem myself but if all the patrollers replied "I've never seen this" to every question like that, every talk page would be littered with such responses. If nobody replies to a question like that within a few days it's fair to assume that it's not a common problem and that you're just unlucky. –RpehTCE 15:51, 4 August 2008 (EDT)
Ok, then learned something... again. I hope I am not too annoying. :S -Goblin lair 21:55, 4 August 2008 (EDT)

A little something[edit]

(moved to the Cookie Jar)

new works by KM!!![edit]

Look at Antares' userpage. It would seem not everyone is ready for a compromise in the big Mk discussion.

Apophis2412 09:35, 7 August 2008 (EDT)

Yes I'd just seen that. If that's going to be Antares' contribution to the debate then so be it. I imagine it's meant to be a satirical comment but I think it's best to ignore it. Sensible people are trying very, very hard to come to a compromise over this and if the best other people can do is make silly posts then I'm not going to be worried about it. –RpehTCE 09:45, 7 August 2008 (EDT)
Paw-stuck-up-his-butt the Idiot would like to inquire why this gets this isn't worrying whereas he gets a warning for a non-offensive joke. If you haven't read this part yet, then my mistake. Temple-Zero 12:59, 7 August 2008 (EDT)
I did consider it, but since nobody on the wiki is actually referred to by name, it can't count as a personal attack. Your own latest warning was for more than a "non-offensive joke". You should re-read the warning, and the links that caused it, and ask Timenn for further information should you require it. –RpehTCE 13:04, 7 August 2008 (EDT)

Cookie[edit]

(moved to the Cookie Jar)

Oh you didn't know?...[edit]

...Then you betta call somebody!!!

Yeah, incase you didn't know, the edit to Dagon's talk page was not in a profane manner. I was simply telling him to remove that specific word from his page, so don't get all uptight with me. DaedryonTCE 13:09, 7 August 2008 (EDT)

Except your edit is now always going to be in the history, and has not one but two swear words in it. It was unnecessary. –RpehTCE 06:08, 8 August 2008 (EDT)
Meh. I'll cut to the chase. About DUMG, can you or Daveh not do an IP range ban on him to wipe out any possibility of him returning, without help from a proxy? DaedryonTCE 08:35, 9 August 2008 (EDT)
We could, and the possibility has been discussed. But the trouble is that he's used more than one range and we'd end up having to block half of Australia to stop him. For the moment it's easier to block him as needed. Maybe at some point he'll take the hint. –RpehTCE 08:37, 9 August 2008 (EDT)

Daggerfall - Naming Inconsistency?[edit]

After looking into this matter a bit, it's indeed Antipylllos for the Province or Region like I like to call this departments in the Illiac Bay, because province is a bit to much in my opinion, and Antyphyllos for the capital. This was probably a misspelling by Bethesda, but perhaps it was intended, who knows. It's the same with Abibon-Gora (region) and Abibon-gora (capital).--PLRDLF 11:51, 10 August 2008 (EDT)

Sir Thedret's location[edit]

Sorry, I didn't know that it should be the location in the start of the game. -Goblin lair 16:50, 13 August 2008

also, is there a page that lists available templates for my user page? i keep experimenting and searching around, but i cant get the desired effect. regards, Baconator96 02:11, 14 August 2008 (EDT)

Sandboxes[edit]

What is the diffrence between a subpage and a sandbox page? -Goblin lair 16:16, 14 August 2008

A sub page is any page that has another page as a parent, such as Oblivion:Anga/Description. A Sandbox is a page that a user can use to experiment with. In my case, sub pages like User:Rpeh/Location are fairly stable but others like User:Rpeh/Sandbox/7 aren't. –RpehTCE 10:21, 14 August 2008 (EDT)
Do changes on a subpage show on the resent changes list? -Goblin lair 16:23, 14 August 2008
Yes. –RpehTCE 10:25, 14 August 2008 (EDT)
ok... how do I create a sandbox page? -Goblin lair 16:28, 14 August 2008
There's a tutorial on creating new pages here. –RpehTCE 10:34, 14 August 2008 (EDT)

Oblivion: Useful Enchantments[edit]

Hello Rpeh. I am slightly wondering about some of the enchantments. Upon deleting the "Blade of the Nine", you stated that it was another "bit-of-everything" weapon, and that there were already three. I do not mind the deletion, but I wonder why three are left on there if they are almost identical. I also think many of the enchantments are somewhat too obvious, and that too many of the weapons have identical effects. Orange-laser-cube 18:45, 14 August 2008 (EDT)

Yes two of the other three should go too, but it really needs somebody to sit down and do the same kind of job Timenn did on Useful Spells (see the full debate here). For the moment I'm just trying to stop it getting even worse. If you want to take the job on, you'd have everyone's gratitude! –RpehTCE 00:39, 15 August 2008 (EDT)

Can i use some pics from your photo album on my page? The Argonian is here 11:14, 15 August 2008 (EDT)

Everything uploaded to uesp is done s ounder the terms of the Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 License so you are free to do what you want with it, no matter who uploads it. --Volanaro 11:29, 15 August 2008 (EDT)
Volanaro is right - I don't own the pictures even though I took them. But you're more than welcome to use them as far as I'm concerned! –RpehTCE 12:20, 15 August 2008 (EDT)

Thanks! How do I put it on my user page? The Argonian is here 12:33, 15 August 2008 (EDT)

You're best off reading the Help page, where there's a good tutorial about Images. To get the full name of an image you can just click on it and look at the title of the page that appears. For example, the first image on my gallery is "Image:OB-scene-Anvil at Dawn.jpg". –RpehTCE 12:37, 15 August 2008 (EDT)

Scripted Deaths (Again)[edit]

Hi Rpeh, Given taht more and more scripted deaths are being noted on shivering Isles pc pages, Im thinking about creating another scripted deaths list for the shivering isles. This is the problem, i cant decide wether to simply add another list at Oblivion:Scripted Deaths or start a whole new page at Shivering:Scripted Deaths, what do you think? --Volanaro 11:40, 15 August 2008 (EDT)

It should be a Shivering page since none of the NPCs affected would be present without SI being installed. I was going to suggest an SI-specific version of that page but I should have known you'd get there first :) –RpehTCE 12:20, 15 August 2008 (EDT)
Ok, Ill get started on it when i have a free moment (if you want to beat me to it then go ahead! :P) as ive said on my page im trying to make the most of the holidays and im going to be away next week so i wont be on much anyway. Also I havent played oblivion for a while, Long live Morrowind!--Volanaro 12:24, 15 August 2008 (EDT)
Done even if it is a bit... small at the moment, ive used the {{Shivering Generic NPCs Trail}} as the only trail for now and added links from the relevant npc pages, anything else? Im thinking about starting a morrowind page at some point, but thats for another day now. --Volanaro 08:16, 16 August 2008 (EDT)
It's a start. I don't know what you want to do with the saints/seducers that die and come back to life during The Helpless Army. There's definitely a scripted death, but then there's a scripted rebirth too. –RpehTCE 08:37, 16 August 2008 (EDT)
Ok, I might take another look at it when i get back from my week in London (Bromley to be precise), leaving today so i wont really have time now. --Volanaro 06:35, 17 August 2008 (EDT)
Been thinking about this for a while and heres what i know, either way, deaths related to Shivering:The Helpless Army would be conditional deaths since its dependant on which side you are aligned with (mania or dementia), also as yuou said im not sure if theyre really counted as deaths, more like suspended animation. Any ideas? --Volanaro 12:13, 18 August 2008 (EDT)
So just to lay this topic to rest, do you think we sohuld bother adding chracters from Shivering:The Helpless Army to the list or not? --Volanaro TCE 11:45, 1 September 2008 (EDT)

(outdent) I would, yes. After all, they do die - even if only for a little bit. –RpehTCE 11:48, 1 September 2008 (EDT)

K, im guessing itll be under a conditional deaths list since it depends who you are aligned with. --Volanaro TCE 11:51, 1 September 2008 (EDT)

Morrowind screenshot[edit]

Hi! I am playing Morrowind on my computer but I don't know how to take a screenshot. I couldn't find how to do it on the image help page. Could you please tell me how to take screenshots while playing Morrowind? -Goblin lair 10:33, 16 August 2008

It's on the help page here. I use the Morrowind Graphics Extender, which allows you to define a key to take screenshots for when the default one doesn't work. You can download it here, –RpehTCE 04:53, 16 August 2008 (EDT)
Thanks! -Goblin lair 10:56, 16 August 2008
I have some nice screenshots now that I would like to use in a sandbox on my page, but I don't really understand how to upload pictures, even though I have read the helpfiles. could you help me out? I could use a "deeper" explanation. -Goblin lair 13:45, 16 August 2008
There really isn't anything I can add to the help. You click the Upload link, browse to your file, fill in the details and go. I honestly don't know what else to say. –RpehTCE 07:54, 16 August 2008 (EDT)
Ok... then I should go and try. Wish me luck!  :) -Goblin lair 14:01, 16 August 2008
Ps. Are players allowed to write fanfiction on the site or shall fanfiction be added elsewhere? I saw you had that this ToD so... Just asking.Ds -Goblin lair 14:13, 16 August 2008
Yes - there's a full list here. If you want to write a story, please keep it on a subpage of your user space. I see you managed to get an image uploaded. Two points: one, it's rather dark. You'll need to get hold of a paint program to lighten your images if they're to be any use on the site. Two, the copyright on any image taken from the game goes to Bethesda (the second from bottom one in the dropdown). –RpehTCE 08:37, 16 August 2008 (EDT)
Ok good. Yeah that was kind of dark that one wasn't it, but since it was night on the one I uploaded I thought it was good enough... it got a little darker once I had uploaded it of some reason. I have a program on my computer that can light the pictures, I have pictures of St:Dalyn's and St:Olms' statues, if they could be of use. Now I know what copyright I shall use too so: thanks! (again) -Goblin lair 14:45, 16 August 2008
You said on a subpage... does it work on a sandboxpage too? -Goblin lair 14:45, 16 August 2008
Anywhere in your used space. For instance I have User:Rpeh/The_Lighter_Side_of_Tamriel and User:Rpeh/Thief_of_Darkness –RpehTCE 08:53, 16 August 2008 (EDT)
Ok then I shall get to work with my fanfiction. -Goblin lair 15:10, 16 August 2008 (EDT)

Thumbs for Gif-Animations ?[edit]

Hello, I wanted to ask, whether it's possible to create an animated thumbnail of a Gif-File. Thumbnails show only the first frame of the animation and it would be nice, if the thumbs would be animated too. I don't want to experience with this matter for long, hence my question.--PLRDLF 20:47, 16 August 2008 (EDT)

The simple answer is: I don't know. There has been discussion before about a module for the wiki called ImageMagick which might be able to help, but I'm not sure. Scaling animated gifs can be problematic because they rely on knowing which parts of the image need repainting but that program is worth looking at. –RpehTCE 02:00, 17 August 2008 (EDT)

Advice on Edit[edit]

I've been trying to add some information and do some editing, but I'm unsure about where I should put the information and how I should phrase the edit. If you or anyone else can help me, please reply. Orange-laser-cube 19:32, 17 August 2008 (EDT)

Well... it depends on the information. I'd need a little more to go on before I can help you! –RpehTCE 00:39, 18 August 2008 (EDT)

Chests and other containers[edit]

I was doing a bit of editing and was wondering if things like treasure chests and crates refresh after a certian amount of time, or if they stay empty for the rest of the time you are playing. Chibiace 06:24, 18 August 2008 (EDT)

Some respawn and some don't. Take a look here for more information. –RpehTCE 06:44, 18 August 2008 (EDT)

Cyrodilic brandy[edit]

Do you know where I can get/by a cyrodilic brandy in TES 4? -Goblin lair 16:40, 18 August 2008

Check the list of merchants here, some of them should sell it. --Volanaro 10:48, 18 August 2008 (EDT)
Or, since you've already asked on the Sanguine talk page, you could always try reading the article. –RpehTCE 10:49, 18 August 2008 (EDT)
Oh... sorry, I missed that, thanks for the help. -Goblin lair 16:58, 18 August 2008 (EDT)

Calendar[edit]

Could I use that template that shows the current date, on my userpage? -Goblin lair 20:41, 18 August 2008

Youve already asked pretty much the same question regarding images from Rpehs photo album, nothing has changed since then everything here is still open source so the answer is still yes. --Volanaro 14:44, 18 August 2008 (EDT)
Ok then I know, and won't ask any more unecessary questions. Thanks! -Goblin lair 20:47, 18 August 2008

Spellings[edit]

You mentioned on User talk:PLRDLF that articles should follow American spelling convention when not in conflict with game-world convention because the host resides in Canada. I wonder: should we than not follow Canadian convention? :) Of course I recognise that it's futile to actually do so now after 12k articles have already accrued, but I do wonder why you would use Canadian server residency as a justification for American spelling. JKing 16:11, 19 August 2008 (EDT)

Actually, the rationale for preferring American spelling has nothing to do with where the website is hosted. The reasons are that Bethesda is an American company and the games are originally released as US games, so the US version of the game is the standard version. See UESPWiki:Spelling#General. Or for even more overkill, see the old discussions listed at UESPWiki talk:Spelling#References. --NepheleTalk 16:50, 19 August 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, the server's location is the justification for the use of the Canadian "Fair Dealing" act as opposed to the American "Fair Use" act for images taken from the games. Since that's a legal issue relating to copyright law, it matters where the site is hosted. As far as spelling goes, that was a voluntary decision made by the community based on the origin of games themselves. (How much difference is there between Canadian and American spelling anyhow? I thought they were pretty much the same most of the time.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 17:43, 19 August 2008 (EDT)
Officially, Canadian spelling is the same as British/International/UK. Or at least it was when I was in school there, because that's what was drilled into me for many years ;) --NepheleTalk 18:11, 19 August 2008 (EDT)
I'm afraid that's not so, Nephele. While Canadian English does prefer the use of the "ou" and "re" spellings also seen in the UK and other Commonwealth Realms such as Australia, American spellings are also accepted. Additionally, as in the US, "z" spellings are used exclusively, to the point where "s" spellings might be entirely unknown depending on the person. However, quite unlike English just about anywhere else (and this is where Canadian English particularly distinguishes itself from American English), Canadian English uses both "center" and "centre" under different contexts. A Canadian will talk about standing in the center of a circle in the concourse of the Rogers Centre, for example. There are also various differences of pronunciation which adhere to Britannic convention mixed in with others which adhere to American common usage, but that's neither here nor there.
As for "center"/"centre", American English does that too. Many official location names use "Centre", even though "center" is used in most other contexts. I've also seen "theatre" used instead of "theater" for similar reasons. (Typically, "theater" means a movie theater, while "theatre" is more often used for live stage productions, probably because it just looks more "distinguished" or something. It's like using "Olde" instead of just "Old".) In Canada, I'd imagine that the French influence has something to do with that as well, as "centre" is the French spelling of the word. (In fact, a lot of the "British" spellings are really French in origin - "our"s and "re"s are quite common in French.) Anyhow, as far as the site is concerned, if we had to make separate pages for "Armor" and "Armour" in every case, it would just cause all kinds of confusion, so we decided to stick with one, and the American spelling used in the games seemed to be the logical choice. (And we do have redirects for British spellings whenever appropriate.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 19:34, 19 August 2008 (EDT)

IfD[edit]

I'm tagging all the Unused images for deletion, basically doing a big cleanup. However, deletions will be required so if you know someone who's up to the task of following behind me, deleting the PROD'd images, that'd be great. DaedryonTCE 01:14, 20 August 2008 (EDT)

O.o Jesus! Scared the hell outta me. See, I'm more used to Wikipedia-style tagging and such. I've already tagged like 40 images or so. DaedryonTCE 01:20, 20 August 2008 (EDT)
Well apart from the fact that the Deletion Policy requires a wait of a week between proposal and deletion, some of those images may well be required. The Redguard ones may be needed to improve walkthroughs for that game, for instance. You must have noticed that some of the unused images were already tagged. The remaining ones have all been looked at by more than one editor and it's been decided that they may still be required. –RpehTCE 01:23, 20 August 2008 (EDT)
Well....I feel like an idiot now >> DaedryonTCE 01:27, 20 August 2008 (EDT)
I guess I'll explain. I'm abit of an organizational person, despite my ADHD. Normally, I'm too lazy to take on daunting tasks like labelling several hundred things, but once I've taken my meds I'm like fully concentrated on finishing the task. On IMVU, I helped a friend re-open her suicide and depression help group after she closed it due to spammers posting things like "kill yourself" and "OD on crack" and stuff like that. I went through her entire member list of 500+ and removed over half of the members, mostly inactive people, and also pruned alot of old topics from 2007. That's the kind of guy I am. I'm a neat freak, so to speak. DaedryonTCE 01:38, 20 August 2008 (EDT)

Help?[edit]

I don't know where to ask this but I accidentally dropped Fin Gleam of Dive Rock, and now i can't find it. Any advice on how to find it? Thanks --Albinobear43 13:46, 20 August 2008 (EDT)

If you're on the PC you can use the console command player.moveto 82DF1, which should put you very close to wherever it is now. If not... you could always try dropping something else off and following it, but that might be tricky. –RpehTCE 13:52, 20 August 2008 (EDT)
i dropped a Sigil stone and walked back down and just followed the glow and i found it. Thanks very much--Albinobear43 22:46, 20 August 2008 (EDT)

Rpeh, go ahead and delete those pages with the orphaned redirects, since the links are fixed on the Fanfiction page. --Twentyfists 10:35, 24 August 2008 (EDT)

I can't. Since I proposed them for deletion, another admin has to actually DO the deletion. The Deletion Policy is quite clear on that. –RpehTCE 02:37, 25 August 2008 (EDT)

Tiber Septim Article[edit]

Hiya, I edited the article on Tiber Septim before I had an account here because I felt the book 2920, Evening Star (v12) was an irrelevant reference. However I didn't edit it properly as some letters were still left from the reference's tags. You fixed that but you still left the reference in. I was wondering if there was any particular reason you left it in? Ive read the book and it has little to nothing to do with Tiber Septim.--Talos 17:14, 24 August 2008 (EDT)

Yes, but it does prove that the bit of text about him declaring the third era is correct. Without the reference it's just an unsourced statement. –RpehTCE 02:37, 25 August 2008 (EDT)

My Sandbox[edit]

hehe I saw you removed, the Mentor and Admin userboxes in my sandbox... I was going to make the whole template different and remove those, but now it had been done so thank you! --Lord Walter Thibault 10:04, 27 August 2008 (EDT)

Yeah - I had to take those off because there are rules about who can and can't use them. Have fun in the sand though! –RpehTCE 10:07, 27 August 2008 (EDT)

General:My story[edit]

I have a question regarding the little deletion warning box on said page, I was wondering if you were going to erase the whole story, or just the unused link. If you're going to delete the unused link, by all means go ahead. — Unsigned comment by Ninja Hinder (talkcontribs)

It's just the redirect. When I moved your story to your user-space it left a redirect behind. It's proposed for deletion and as soon as another admin decides to look at the deletions page, it'll get taken care of. –RpehTCE 14:36, 30 August 2008 (EDT)

Shivering adventurers[edit]

Hello there. I saw you created the Shivering:Adventurer page today. Is it correct that all adventurers are Orcs? I'm quite sure there was an Argonian with them the last time I slew the Gatekeeper. Could be that I'm wrong, though.--LordDagon 10:56, 31 August 2008 (EDT)

Oh my! Yes you're quite right. I'm not sure what happened there - I could have sworn they were all Orcs this morning! I've updated accordingly. Thanks! –RpehTCE 10:59, 31 August 2008 (EDT)
