Proxy Vandalism[edit]

HI Rpeh, it appears that the same vandals that attacked here earlier have also attacked the modwiki. I've blocked them there indefinitly but im concerened this may start to become frequent, what do you think? --Volanaro 09:52, 1 July 2008 (EDT)

There's nothing much we can do about it except keep blocking them. –RpehTCE 09:55, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
I guess you're right, although its quite asddening that the people who write bots that do this have enough programming knowledge to do so but choose to abuse it. --Volanaro 09:35, 2 July 2008 (EDT)

Just asking, do you want patroller rights on the modwiki? If so I might be able to put in a good word for you with Vhaeos, I personally think you're more than capable of dealing with vandals over there and patroller rights would help (they work a little differently on the modwiki and they're almost the equivalent of sysops), just a thought. --Volanaro 07:08, 3 July 2008 (EDT)

Thank you so much for your confidence in me. I'm quite capable of asking Vhaeos myself should the occasion arise, but I'm quite busy enough at the moment without the extra responsibility. –RpehTCE 07:59, 3 July 2008 (EDT)
I wouldnt call it confidence, I look up to you when it comes to the wiki, you've shown me quite a lot since i've joined and i value all decent advice i recieve from anyone. Sorry im babbling a bit! Hope you didnt take offence i was just asking --Volanaro 09:55, 3 July 2008 (EDT)

Daedric Userbox[edit]

Hey Rpeh do you know what the User is flunet with Daedric Alphabetuserbox is?— Unsigned comment by Prince of Madness (talkcontribs)

Currently, there isnt a template for it, but the raw code is --Volanaro 09:34, 2 July 2008 (EDT)

Do you know if there is a Ayleid one? --Prince of Madness 06:55, 3 July 2008 (EDT)

I don't believe so. All the defined userboxes are here. –RpehTCE 06:57, 3 July 2008 (EDT)

On that userbox note, whats is that Shadowkey one? never heard of it. --Prince of Madness 20:39, 5 July 2008 (EDT)

It's one of the mobile games. Look here. –RpehTCE 03:47, 6 July 2008 (EDT)

RoBoT[edit]

I would just like to ask a few questions about the fascinating little friend you have.

Is it hard to create and maintain? Is it safe? Does it need attention whenever it is active? If I wanted to create one would you not reccommend me proceeding? If you wouldn't mind me creating one would you teach me how to use it or is there a website that will show you how to use it?

Could you please answer those questions for me. Thanks! --Matthewest TCE 06:33, 8 July 2008 (EDT)

I'd suggest you don't even think about it unless you have a background in computing.
Is it hard to create and maintain?
The first version was tricky and getting it to do exactly what I want can be a challenge.
Is it safe?
The bots are potentially really, really dangerous. If Nephele or I ever got ticked off and let a bot go on a page-blanking spree it would take quite a while to put right what the bot could destroy in a few minutes. The chances of that happening accidentally are fairly remote though.
Does it need attention whenever it is active?
Depends. In the upcoming Lore move I'm likely to hold its hand quite firmly for the whole time. Other tasks need a quick glance and nothing more.
If I wanted to create one would you not reccommend me proceeding?
I'd suggest you didn't.
The other two other people I think I'd be happy to see create a bot are Daveh and Wrye because they're both admins with a clear grasp of programming. There may be a couple of patrollers that fit the bill but I'm not sure. I don't think I'd like to see anybody not in one of those groups creating a bot, although others may disagree. –RpehTCE 06:42, 8 July 2008 (EDT)
Okay thanks for that. I just wanted to know a few things. I understand your concern for the wiki but if I could get a bot from, this page perhaps, and I learnt alot more about it, would it be useful for me on the wiki or in other areas? Here, it mentions that if you do not have any programming experience then you can request one. Does this mean it would be easy to run? --Matthewest TCE 07:05, 8 July 2008 (EDT)
The wikipedia links you posted do not provide inexperienced programmers with bots to run. Those are places where you can place a request for another editor to do a job using that editor's bot. In other words, it's the equivalent of posting a message at User talk:RoBoT and asking rpeh to do a task using RoBoT. Furthermore, bots are only useful if you have a task that needs to be completed. Just having a bot that you want to run with no purpose except to run a bot sounds like a complete recipe for disaster. --NepheleTalk 16:29, 8 July 2008 (EDT)
Understood. When I am more experienced in programming (I am making my own programs for a start at the moment) I may think more about creating one. Thanks! --Matthewest TCE 18:40, 8 July 2008 (EDT)

email[edit]

Hi Rpeh, just checking did you get m last email? It ahad some stuff you might find useful. --Volanaro 07:16, 8 July 2008 (EDT)

Yup. I got it, thanks. –RpehTCE 07:34, 8 July 2008 (EDT)
Ok, sorry for all the typos in my last message by the way, I was in a bi of a rush helping to deal with that vandal earlier --Volanaro 09:48, 8 July 2008 (EDT)

Quest Header[edit]

Following your split of the Disp and Rep parameters, I came up with an optimization to put the links into the header text itself rather than as the parameter. I did the same for Fame/Imfamy. So now, it's no longer necessary to link the word "Fame" in the header to the Fame page, as the header does this automatically. Might be worth having a bot go through and remove those now-redundant links, seems like the kind of thing RoBoT would be good at, as you've done these things in the past. Good idea? --TheRealLurlock Talk 11:54, 8 July 2008 (EDT)

Hmm. Not sure. I'd thought about doing that myself but I wasn't sure I liked the way the header looked with a mix of links and non-links. I think it looks a little... unbalanced, although maybe I'll get used to it. If everybody else likes it then it's not a problem for a bot to go through and take the links off the text though. –RpehTCE 01:08, 9 July 2008 (EDT)
You may have noticed I did this today. I decided it didn't look as bad as I'd first thought. –RpehTCE 13:19, 10 July 2008 (EDT)

Mod email[edit]

Hi Rpeh,

I just got the reply from your private email address. Although the receiving date is trying to disguise itself as "Thu, 3/7/08", I'm pretty sure it wasn't there when I checked yesterday. The emails just seem to be taking longer to arrive when sent from that address. No idea why. :S - Game LordTalk|Contribs 15:39, 9 July 2008 (EDT)

Magical Spots[edit]

It says you're knowledgeable about Oblivion, so I hope you know what I'm trying to figure out. Near the broken wayshrine north of Chorral, there is a spot where, if you stand there, blue specks start flying around, much like those above the discs you see when you enter Frostcrag Spire. Could this be in some way a magical spot? If so, why? Oh, and it's near a Nirnroot. Would this have anything to do with it?

Yes, it's probably common knowledge and I'm such a noob that I don't know.--Draenoch 10:23, 16 July 2008 (EDT)

Yes I saw your earlier post. My first reaction is that it's just some butterflies or fireflies but I wanted to check that out before I responded. I can't do that at work, alas. –RpehTCE 10:32, 16 July 2008 (EDT)
I don't think it's fireflies, and I exited and re-entered the spot several times. I suspect it might be revealing the fact that a chest is hidden underwater nearby, but I'll wait for your analysis.

Weather in Oblivion[edit]

(moved to Oblivion_talk:Oblivion, where the author had also asked the question)

???[edit]

hey Rpeh can u tell me how to get to the Bruma Testing Hall? I don't kno how. --Prince of Madness 03:58, 19 July 2008 (EDT)

Does this answer your question? Also when you start a new topic can you not just put the question marks as it can be very confusing. --Volanaro 10:33, 19 July 2008 (EDT)

Map of Vivec City[edit]

Well, I've replaced most of the low-resolution maps on the Morrowind cities. The only one that I'm currently missing is Vivec. While I have created individual maps of the cantons, the one I created for the whole city is fairly low-res and not that great. (See File:MW-map-Vivec.jpg) Unfortunately, my normal method for creating these maps will not work well for Vivec, because I've been taking straight top-down shots of each city from the CS, and with Vivec, the cantons end up all skewed because of the perspective. Now the images you took for the Morrowind Interactive Map would be perfect for this, except that I have no way of capturing a screenshot of this map without all the door-markers already on it. Is there any way you could send me the straight graphics for this, sans door markers? The largest resolution will probably be best, if I need to I can shrink it down from there. If you want to patch the tiles into a single image, that'd be great, but if not I can do it myself. I'd need the entire city, including the ship and strider port, plus the tiles around it so it fills the rectangle. No rush or anything, but I figure you've already got the files sitting around somewhere, so your help would be greatly appreciated. --TheRealLurlock Talk 14:23, 19 July 2008 (EDT)

Okay, one image ready to roll. Where would you like me to send it? In lossless form it's so big (3.15MB) that the server won't allow me to upload it. –RpehTCE 14:46, 19 July 2008 (EDT)

While I'm Gone...[edit]

Hey Rpeh, since you seem the master at these, could you tell me if I designed my Location template at User:Puddle/Location right. Especially comcerning the last feature, and that my and's, or's & if's are used correctly. Anyway please double-check it if you can. Thanks!-Puddle TalkContribs. 09:35, 24 July 2008 (EDT)

There are a few obvious mistakes. First, you can't do "((LOCALHOUR-4) mod 24) <= 23:30". The LocalHour function produces an INT so the comparison to "23:30" is meaningless. You would need to split that out into (H<4) OR (H=4 AND M<30), which is a pain in wiki templates; I'm just lucky my schedule is hour-based. Second, the Sleep hours seem wrong - do you really sleep from 10am to 1am? Thirdly, the order seems wrong; you don't sleep at weekends, and you don't ever watch SNL because you're doing other stuff. To use the sort of shortcuts I used you need to get the things you're doing in the right order. –RpehTCE 10:01, 24 July 2008 (EDT)
I know I didn't think that feature would work, I just wanted to gve it a shot, so i'm changing my sleeping hours to 23 and 9 , then would come my doing chores from 9 to 15, and my at home hours to 15 to 23 would that work right? And I see what I did with my sleeping hours, I had them reversed (I was having a hard time sleeping when I made the template). I think I fixed it correctly, I ordered my tasks by hour.-Puddle TalkContribs. 10:52, 24 July 2008 (EDT)
No... that's still not right. Now you're asleep between 9am and 11pm. I can only suggest you test it yourself. Simply replace the magic words with real numbers and see what you get coming up. I'm guessing you aren't a programmer, so that is probably the best way to go. –RpehTCE 12:12, 24 July 2008 (EDT)
Hm... It is greater than or equal to 0 (12 AM) and before 9 (9 AM) I don't getr why that would be showing up, it's defying the laws of math! I'm trying it a Midnight & 9AM now. — Unsigned comment by Puddle (talkcontribs)
Except that's not what you've written: you have less than or equal to 0 and greater than 9. –RpehTCE 14:43, 24 July 2008 (EDT)

Hmm... I juset saw that anyway, I've decided to forgo the sleeping, but I think I would've had to move it to the bottom, fix the signs and then move travelling to the bottom. At least now that I've gone all this, I'll always know how to do it (I'm good at asorbing it once I understand it). And you're right, I need to improve my programming. :)-Puddle TalkContribs. 17:30, 24 July 2008 (EDT)

Image licensing[edit]

Hey! I'm new to UESP, and I'm currently creating my userpage (it's still in Preview right now, but it's looking good, I kinda used your userpages basic look, but changed the colors, hope that's alright). My question is, I've just created a sidebar (kinda like yours) and I created it with a picture I own, nothings copyrighted. Which license would I use? Thanks! Daedryon 00:10, 27 July 2008 (EDT)

Jumping in here, the last option is probably best, Creator gave permission. --BenouldTC 00:33, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
Thanks. I've already asked Nephele, and I chose the one with (preferred) in it. Hope I did it right. Daedryon 01:27, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery :-) Looks like you already got the hang of everything. Welcome to the site! –RpehTCE 02:12, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
I used to be a regular at Wikipedia, but I must say, the templates and such are abit different here. Usually, after copying and pasting stuff, I learn pretty quickly. Heck, I put together my XBOX Games page using the table template from the ebony page. Thanks for the welcome :) DaedryonTCE 02:13, 27 July 2008 (EDT)

Labelling something for deletion[edit]

What is the deletion template? I want to label this for temporary deletion due to some IP placing warning and block templates on this users talk page, and as far as I know, it's just vandalism. Thanks! DaedryonTCE 03:31, 27 July 2008 (EDT)

Actually, as it turns out, I looked into it, the user doesn't exist, it's basically just spam. No contribs for Dooskkthsbadookssh. DaedryonTCE 03:34, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
We have a couple. There's speedydeletion (or just speed) to mark something for instant deletion, then there's proposeddeletion (or just prod) for a more leisurely pace. See the Deletion Policy for more information. –RpehTCE 03:38, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
In this case, you're right - the user doesn't exist so it should definitely be deleted. –RpehTCE 03:38, 27 July 2008 (EDT)

[edit]

Hi, I wonder... since I could not get contact with eshe I wonder if you could help me make a "daedric" banner with my name on it? Or at least tell me how to do. -Goblin lair 21:18, 28 July 2008

Eshe's away so I'm not surprised you didn't get a reply. The way I did mine was to download the Daedric Font and then play around in Paint Shop Pro. Eshe must have spent some time removing the existing text from one of Morrowind's banners and then added her text to those. –RpehTCE 16:32, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
Ok. Then I know. -Goblin lair 22:56, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

Userboxes, text color[edit]

How do I do if I want the text in a userbox to change color? -Goblin lair 11:12, 29 July 2008

Use the FC template. –RpehTCE 05:21, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
Tank you... again. -Goblin lair 11:25, 29 July 2008
Eh... Are you shure that is how to do in a userbox, I mean the text doesn't become white when I try to make it white... The only thing happening is that the userbox dissapears. -Goblin lair 11:33, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
Whoops. Sorry, my bad. There's an extra param to the userbox - info-fc.
After this, could you please leave off your user page for a while? The debate over this userbox has gone on quite long enough. –RpehTCE 05:45, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
What do you mean? -Goblin lair 11:54, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
What Userbox? -Goblin lair 12:07, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
I'm just pointing out that none of your contributions in the last week have been related to Oblivion or the Elder scrolls. A bit of experimentation with your user page is one thing, but this is becoming a distraction. –RpehTCE 06:21, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
Oh... Sorry. I didn't mean to do so. Well, I did not mean to do anything wrong... sorry. -Goblin lair 12:25, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
May I just add one discussion link to my page? -Goblin lair 13:08, 29 July 2008
You can add anything you want. I'm not saying you did anything "wrong", I'm just suggesting that you spend a little less time on your user page and more on the rest of the site. This isn't MySpace - if you find yourself spending too much time on your userpage you're probably in the wrong place. –RpehTCE 07:43, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
Ok. Well i am trying to find stuff on the pages to improve but most of the stuff is allready in sutch a good shape... but I will try to work harder to help improve the rest of the site, (outside my userpage).  :) -Goblin lair 14:02, 29 July 2008

Signature[edit]

ok, i am trying to make a custom signature. my current one does not posses any links. I was wondering if you could help me. thanks Jesus lover 23:35, 30 July 2008 (EDT) or Jesus lover

Nevermind. DaedryonTCE helped me. GodisGoodTCE 23:52, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Links in description pages[edit]

Ok so after seeing a fellow user remove links from a Description page, I've started a personal project to remove links from all quest pages (along with fixing some gramatical errors brought up by the absence of said links). Just wanted to check in with you to make sure I should be doing this, before I go through like 400 more pages, which you may or may not end up having to revert. DaedryonTCE 04:14, 31 July 2008 (EDT)

No! Quest description pages should have links! The only ones where we really don't want them are Shivering and Oblivion place descriptions, because they're unnecessary and distracting. People seem to like them on MW place descriptions although I'm not a big fan. I don't think there are any description pages that need changing at the moment. –RpehTCE 04:24, 31 July 2008 (EDT)

Bad images[edit]

Do you think that particular image was bad? I thought it was possible that Bethesda made his face distorted as if the felldew had altered it, but I have never heard of any real life drug that did that and they would've said something about it in the game if it did that. — Unsigned comment by J5689 (talkcontribs) on 31 July 2008

It's not the greatest, sure. The face does look rather distorted, and if that's how he really appears it would be better if the image was more face-on so that it's obvious it's his face rather than the picture.
In general, if you have a problem with an image you should say so. If other people disagree, they can always take the tag back off again. –RpehTCE 12:23, 31 July 2008 (EDT)
