Belated Welcome![edit]

Hiya Kalbintion ! Have a belated welcome to UESPWiki. Here's the usual list of useful pages, since you've been around a while but they're always nice to have around: Policies and Guidelines, Help Contents, Quick Editing Guide, and Getting Started. It's good to see you editing again.

Also, if you would like to spice up your userpage, take a look at the Userboxes page. And feel free to discuss the games in the forums as well!

Anyway, welcome again and have fun! — ABCface 06:02, 7 February 2013 (GMT)

Belated a lot actually lol, I never got around to doing as much editing as I had intended to before, but am working on Dragonborn content and am interested in helping out the community when I can. Made my user page and created a custom signature. 04:25, 11 February 2013 (GMT)

Userboxes[edit]

Hey! I saw that a couple of your userboxes aren't formatted normally, but didn't want to go and edit your userpage. If you'd like to fix them, here's the code!

{{User current age|day=26|month=11|year=1991}}
{{User UESPWikian|year=2011|month=12|day=10}}

And a belated welcome from me as well :) Vely►t►e 02:26, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

Thanks. I noticed the userboxes become corrupt when i went to change them over. I did a copy paste of the page to notepad and did a replace of = to ' (and '' to ''', since i missed an extra ') And I intended to go fix them. Presently working on signatures. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 02:30, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
Quick edit: Silly wiki coding lol. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 02:31, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

Dragon Font[edit]

Could anyone perhaps translate the phrase into dragon language? Or make your best attempt to. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 05:55, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

Which Phrase? Jeancey (talk) 06:07, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
Lol, I apparently didn't save the recent changes to my user page with the dragon font usage. I'm not entirely sure if it'll translate properly, or at all, but quote from latest user page
LOVE ME FOR ME, NOT FOR WHO I HAVE TO BE ~KALBINTION
ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 06:13, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
And do you want it actually in draconic? Or just written in draconic text? Jeancey (talk) 06:25, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
Actually in draconic. I understand the DragonFont template and have used it already, as per noted my latest user page. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 06:26, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
Well, I can tell you right now that its not possible at this time. Dragons aren't the most warm and cuddly types, and as such, have no word for love... or kindness... or scrumptious... It just doesn't exist. Jeancey (talk) 06:39, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
How about changing the quote around to using words like lust, so "Have lust for me, for myself, not for who i have to be." As the author of the quote, I feel like a word change like this can still retain original meaning while still being able to be translated. Or are there just no words synonymous with "love?" ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 06:44, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
Nope. No lust, no adoration. The closest you can get is Med, which means like (as in similar to). But that's not really what you are looking for. Like I said... they aren't a very touchy feely kind of species. Jeancey (talk) 07:28, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
Well, don't they suck. The dragons need to grasp more concepts. I guess there is a reason why the mortals had to create Dragonrend. That said, the words existed but they didn't understand the concepts? What... ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 07:31, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

() What about Honor (Zin). It might require tweaking the phrase, but it's all the dragons offer in terms of "love". Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 14:27, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

Possibility, as I see where you're going with that, but the meaning might be too obscure in that case. I'll have to think about it. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 18:12, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

Sandbox[edit]

Created a sandbox for personal use, however I am stuck with creating a userbox template. I understand the basic coding principals, but not being a wiki code expert, I am not sure how or why I cannot supply something like {{User Owns|Skyrim}} to produce (or something similar):

SR-icon-logo.jpg This user owns Skyrim.

See Template:User Owns for more information.

ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 08:30, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

Note - Using it as-is (at the moment of the above comment) it appears as
SR-icon-logo.jpg This user owns Skyrim.

I had a look at your code, and came up with a solution for you. You need to set the value of the {{{image}}} as part of the {{#switch}}.
|Morrowind={{#local:image|User-userbox-Morrowind.gif{{!}}25px}}
This may get you in trouble with the Conditional Expressions limitations, but it worked fine for me. You don't need the {{#load}} block at all, using this solution. Note the use of the {{!}} template, as you cannot place a vertical bar inside the {{#local}} block, as it confuses the issue completely. I specified a size for the images as some of them are just way too big for a userbox. Alternatively, you could move the image size to your {{Userbox}} block. This would make more sense, in fact. Hope this helps. Darictalk 11:31, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
Thanks, I had originally taken the User Thane template code and used it as a starting point to help learn more about wiki coding. I knew I wasn't getting the switch block referenced at all, but had no idea to go about it as i had tried various assignments on it and none of them worked. I'll continue working on this and hopefully there won't be any problems arising. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 18:18, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
Ended up using a different method so I could avoid using {{#local:}} under every single conditional, it was too repetitive, and i knew something was wrong from a coding standpoint. I put the #local at top and the switch became the variables assignment like I wanted to in the first place. It seems to be working now though, thanks again for your help! ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 18:38, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
You have come up with an elegant solution, I like it! One thing I would recommend to improve it is to encase the whole thing in <cleanspace>...</cleanspace> tags so that the line spaces in your code are ignored. Happy coding! Darictalk 22:02, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
I take it cleanspace makes it all one-line instead of multiple lines? Would this change the template at all in that way? I prefer readability over having it all one line, especially if someone was to go and try to read that (ever try reading some of these other templates code? It's difficult to understand if u do not know what everything does.) ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ

() Cleanspace makes the parser think it is all one line, but it doesn't change your code at all. Very handy if you want to place your custom userboxes side by side without a table. Darictalk 22:19, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

You'll have to forgive me for my ignorance on the wiki parser system. How does this affect userbox templates from being next to each other or not? Outside of an extra whitespace character i have between the switch and userbox code, and with all the programming ive done in the past, it tells me that it shouldn't be "broken" in that sense, as the code is all continuous just not on a single line.
OB-icon-Knights of the Nine.png This user owns Knights of the Nine.
SR-icon-logo.jpg This user owns Skyrim.
Two uses of my template is above, without any cleanspace additions, and they appear to be side by side to me. I even had to use a {{NewLine}} template to break this from the above like I had to do with the other userboxes on my main user page. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 22:29, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
Okay, not sure what happened there, but the last time I tried that, your userboxes ended up side-by-side, but the second one was dropped down by one line. It looks fine now. Darictalk 22:56, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
It's possible the few tweaks I did after reading your comment could have changed this. I removed the noinclude text at the top of the template, which contained another whitespace character between it and the start of the switch block. I also made another edit to it to have Skyrim be the default in both the image and text areas and not just the image. The two whitespace characters combined might have made it do that for you on your browser? ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 22:59, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
I just added a few example userboxes to my userpage with your sandbox template. I have followed the same pattern I used for the other userboxes, but for some reason your ones end up with an extra space above them. I assume you intend to move this to the Template namespace eventually. Before you do, would you mind trying out the <cleanspace>...</cleanspace> idea that I suggested earlier? It might resolve this problem. Darictalk 07:06, 13 February 2013 (GMT)

DB:Barracks[edit]

The barracks page redirects because the only one is part of Raven Rock, the Skyrim version is different because there are 10 barracks in total there. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 23:49, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

Alright, I suppose there is a reason why it was set-up the way it is. Thanks for letting me know. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 23:51, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

Hey![edit]

Hey! The images are great, I just have a few notes :). The license needed for all of these images is the {{uespimage}} license. Also, places are named DB-place-Name.jpg rather than DB-places-Name.jpg. Other than that, they seem to be great images! Keep up the good work! Jeancey (talk) 01:25, 13 February 2013 (GMT)

Oh...no s..I'll go back and fix what I can after I finish uploading the rest of the images for the other places that are missing. Unless of course, someone beats me to it. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 01:27, 13 February 2013 (GMT)
Nice work with the place images, but be careful with the lighting. Places like this would look a lot better in daylight conditions. —Legoless (talk) 02:08, 13 February 2013 (GMT)
Actually was daylight time, it was at noon. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 02:09, 13 February 2013 (GMT)
AKB noted the same trouble with lighting on this image, but it was brightened later. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 02:16, 13 February 2013 (GMT)
A lot of these images I am uploading have already been taken when I first went through, as I tend to like the areas of Skyrim (and TES in general) as desktop backgrounds. I am simply going through what I have and what isn't already up and converted them to fit the styles. I always go for the brighter screenshots so I can dim them down if I want to, so anything that seems dark is due to in-game lighting as I try to take a screenshot from 7am-noon in-game. Also, I've played enough Minecraft to note how bad it is to look at images if its night. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 02:22, 13 February 2013 (GMT)
Clear Skies can be used to brighten the sky. There shouldn't be any problem with lighting in the northern half of Solstheim. —Legoless (talk) 02:44, 13 February 2013 (GMT)
Oh it can? I hadn't thought about using that shout, I hadn't found a use for it outside of visiting a particular dragon. Thanks. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 02:45, 13 February 2013 (GMT)

Newleft[edit]

I love what you have been doing with the Dragonborn images. It almost makes me want to get Skyrim for the PC. Almost! Just wanted to introduce you to the {{newleft}} template, which is mighty handy when adding images to pages that are stubs or are short on textual content at the top. If you add the newleft template just above the next section heading, it will pull that heading and the subsequent text back in line to the left-hand margin. See this and this as examples. Darictalk 02:40, 13 February 2013 (GMT)

I had seen that tag once before, but it made no sense to me when I went to use it, apparently the case I tried using it in didn't actually do anything. So my knowledge of that templates use here was limited. I figured it had to do something with left aligning but wasnt quite sure what. I'll keep this in mind for sure though for future edits. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 02:43, 13 February 2013 (GMT)
Just as a quick titbit with no criticism implied, no punctuation in the imgdesc= bit, add the Category:Dragonborn-Place Images when uploading, and punctuation is allowed in file names, eg Haknirs = Haknir's. At least the images will be there, they can be tidied up later if they can be. NewLeft or newleft works, caps must be the same. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 02:46, 13 February 2013 (GMT)
Alright, good to know. I'm still getting used to this sites styling mechanics compared to some other wiki's I've done minor work for. I've read over the style guides but I can only remember so much of it seeing I have college to be more concerned with. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 02:48, 13 February 2013 (GMT)

Skills Page[edit]

Hey, I have an even better idea pursuant to discussion on my sandbox talk page: You should revamp the skills page! The only reason I grabbed it is that I noticed that it looks neglected, and that I could improve it somehow even with my limited knowledge of how the game mechanics operate. I'd prefer to be in more familiar territory than that page. I really think you could do a better job, right now. If you have the time, please consider it. (Don't let it eat up more than say, 70% of your homework/study time.)

I think you are pretty much ready to go in terms of contributing fairly aggressively; especially, since you clearly have the ability to collaborate well with others who share your technical skills to what seems like a fair degree, and who are active: Jak, Jeancey, Silencer, etc.

Also, is this already on our console page? If not, or if your little guide may serve to enhance or clarify whatever's there about scripts, please paste it in there! I enjoyed chatting with you on IRC earlier. --JR (talk) 17:46, 14 February 2013 (GMT)

While I wouldn't mind revamping the skill pages, or giving my knowledge of game mechanics (most of which was experienced in game) some of my knowledge comes from other sources that I've noticed through my play throughs or tested outright and verified. My main issue with the skills page is that there exists some issues with how I would like to have anything on this wiki laid out compared to the currently defined styles. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 19:01, 14 February 2013 (GMT)

Quick Question[edit]

Er, is the duplicated talk page on purpose? Because you have Notes, Skills, Perks, Achievements, Skill Advancement all on your page... 3 times. Just wondering :P --Vulpa 01:54, 15 February 2013 (GMT)

Duplicated? You mean the sandbox talk page? I want anything related to the project there, itll keep me sane. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 07:46, 15 February 2013 (GMT)
Nevermind! Noticed the issue lol. Previous section did an include to my sandbox, which is now the project... ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 07:46, 15 February 2013 (GMT)

Alternative Start[edit]

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Console#Example_for_using_a_Batch_File_to_create_an_alternative_start

Reading that text, I wonder how much can be changed without using the CK?

Like starting in the pre-destroyed-helgen...

so long Lain (talk) 23:12, 20 February 2013 (GMT)

You can change the "sStartingCell" line to ANY valid cell code. Such as "HelgenExterior" and you will start in an pre-destroyed Helgen. You will see some oddities this way though, as you break the typical starting script so people don't die properly, dragon doesn't attack, etc, as per warned on the link itself. The actual script that gets run does nothing too significant outside of standard give items and making u part of the bandits. You will need to do "showracemenu" each time you create a new character this way however as there is no way to trigger that command otherwise outside of manually doing it. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 00:55, 21 February 2013 (GMT)

I tryed it and there is a big problem with the "SStartingCell=". At least I think the problem lies there.
Everytime I start Skyrim it creates a new charakter after the Skyrim intro, you do not get the chance to click anything in the main menue before ::it starts a new game all by itself.
so long Lain (talk) 12:00, 21 February 2013 (GMT)

Blurry Images[edit]

Hi Kalbintion, while I do find your images nice, I've noticed the majority of them are somewhat blurry making objects in the distance hard to see. Do you think something could be done to prevent that from happening in the future? --Roger (talk) 17:33, 18 April 2013 (GMT)

ALL images taken were directly from the game with no modifications, what you see is what the game rendered into the image as its using its screen shot system as well. I prefer these images this way, if they appear blurry, then that is because that is how they were either saved, or the game rendered it on screen. I do not intend on changing this behavior simply because of how I feel screenshot related images of games should be. That is to say, unmodified in any shape or form. I will say there are image-resizing issues due to the standards set forth by this wiki, and what happens with the resizing is out of my control since it MUST conform to the wiki standards. 129.186.10.152 20:10, 18 April 2013 (GMT)
Didn't sign in but it is me. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 20:11, 18 April 2013 (GMT)
Just look at a few other images uploaded by different editors. They're clear as crystal. Anyhow, I am not sure if I get you: Are you blaming the wiki for resizing your images (in which case you can view the original unaltered image by clicking on "Full Resolution", and it will remain blurred) or do you resize them yourself for whatever reason? There are no policies that require you to do so. Does your game also appear blurry or is just screenshots? --Roger (talk) 21:34, 18 April 2013 (GMT)
I refer you to [Section (Help:Images#Image_Standards)] that dictate image formatting for various things (places, people, etc). The images are re-sized locally before uploading, as I have been told in the past over IRC to do so, since the images originally would be in 16:10 ratio. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 08:21, 19 April 2013 (GMT)
I am aware of that, and it's called cropping (I guess you could argue that it changes the size too, therefore resizes the image; what I meant previously is probably rescaling). Yes, you are to crop the image to meet the standard aspect ratio if it doesn't already. Quote: "I will say there are image-resizing issues due to the standards set forth by this wiki, and what happens with the resizing is out of my control since it MUST conform to the wiki standards." What image-resizing issues? Cropping is done manually and it is certainly in your control, however it shouldn't make the image blurry. Plus, neither the game nor screenshots should be rendered blurry. Since the in-game capturer saves the shots in JPEG format, it may be wise to capture the screen using external tools in a lossless format (i.e. PNG), do the needed cropping, and just then convert it to JPEG (to preserve image quality). --Roger (talk) 09:51, 19 April 2013 (GMT)

Wipsandbox Notice[edit]

Hey there! This is a courtesy notice to let you know that your wipsandbox-tag on the article Skyrim:Skills has been removed, as per this message. If you still want to work on the article, feel free to re-add the tag, but please consider that the tag prevents other editors from improving the article. If you have unfinished work in your sandbox, you can add it to the article – but please add the {{incomplete}}-tag to let other users know where you stopped. Thanks in advance! --Krusty (talk) 20:37, 2 July 2013 (GMT)

This is fine, while I do intend to do work on it I am unsure when I will have the time anymore for this wiki as I have moved onto another wiki as well as college work. Thanks for removing it for me and letting me know. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 05:35, 23 August 2013 (GMT)
