Welcome![edit]

Hiya Crayolamanic! Welcome to UESPWiki. It's great when we get new members. Just thought I'd send you a welcome with some helpful info. Check out the following links:

If you would like to spice up your userpage, take a look at the Userboxes page: a near complete list of userboxes, including a guide to making your own.

When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~ (do not sign edits to articles). Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (patrollers really appreciate it!).

Feel free to practice editing in the sandbox or discuss the games in the forums. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact one of our mentors. Have fun! — ABCface 13:48, 2 November 2012 (GMT)

Thanks for the welcome! (Would this be correct formatting for a reply, or do I use the new section option? These are the thousand tiny questions that drive me nuts about being the FNG around here. :) Also, did I technically double sign my post? Crayolamanic (talk) 10:07, 14 November 2012 (GMT)

Just to but in here, yeah this would be the right formatting for a reply, the new section option is for creating a new topic. Also, you may wish to use these,":" to indent your posts when you're replying on a talk page. Always use one more than the other person did. So for example, if you were replying to me right now, you would put two colons. And no you didn't double sign your post. Hope that helps!--Skyrimplayer (talk) 14:03, 14 November 2012 (GMT)
Thanks for answering while I was slowly typing, Skyrimplayer. :P But yeah, Crayolamanic, what he said. You're doing just fine and if you ever have any more questions, feel free to ask. There are plenty of people around here that are happy to help! :) — ABCface 14:06, 14 November 2012 (GMT)
Thanks for all the help!I was actually trying to figure out the proper indentation! that was my next question. My upcoming project is to create a Userpage...which is intimidating as heck to me b/c I don't know anything whatsoever about any of it. Most of you here will think I'm hopelessly far behind because...I am. What I need is a little bit of super basic info to get me started as in "Now that you know how to type and read you need to know this stuff next". I have never created or edited anything on the computer that wasn't formatted for the user to simply type in their plain text and then it converts it all for you. I have basic word processing, The End. I would be so appreciative of any suggestions as to other places I can learn across the web, so I can start here with some basics...The quick editing guide helped me but I am even more of a newbie than I should be for that, I think. Mostly it's the terminology that I don't yet have. I have the (later) Elder Scrolls knowledge to be here! I'm just hopelessly computer illiterate, technologically challenged. :) I appreciate all the responses I have had to everything I've posted so far and I really think this is going to be a new addiction! Love to learn and contribute what I know at the same time! Thanks again! -- Crayolamanic (talk) 03:33, 15 November 2012 (GMT)
You're doing just fine, don't worry. The easiest way to get your userpage set up is to browse through the userpages of editors who already have them set up, find something you like, copy/paste, and tweak it to meet your needs. When you're editing, you'll see a button that says "Show preview" right next to the "Save page" button-- this "Show preview" button is your friend! Depending on what you're doing, even a single character, like a pipebar ( | ) can make a big difference, so when you're unsure of formatting or just want to see how it would look if you save it as is, the "Show preview" button is really useful.
So, if you want to start with basic text and some userboxes here's some things to keep in mind. If you want a header with a line under it (like the one on this page that says "Welcome!") just type two equal signs on either side, like this:
==Welcome!==
If you want a header with no line (but still with bigger, bolded text), type three equal signs on either side instead:
===Welcome!===
If you want to add userboxes to the page which already exist, such as the ones found here, just copy/paste the appropriate line in the column titled "Template" on that page. For example, for the userbox which says "This user is an Artist", copy/paste {{User Artist}} onto your userpage. If you have added any userboxes to your page and want to add something else after it on the page, add {{NewLine}} after the last userbox (if you have five userboxes, only add it after the fifth, not all five).
If you want something more complex, like tables and fancy-schmancy stuff that looks really cool, borrowing from other people's userpages is totally okay! People do it all the time, and it's a quick and easy way to learn what different formatting tweaks will do as you go. Just remember to use the "Show preview" button while you're working on it to keep the number of edits down.
And, of course, if you ever need help you can always ask. :) — ABCface 04:03, 15 November 2012 (GMT)
Thank you, thank you, this is perfect! Once I get the hang of the "language" I will be all over this place. *^_^* -- Crayolamanic (talk) 04:28, 15 November 2012 (GMT)

Interview with the vampire[edit]

Hey Crayola, Welcome to uesp, I'd like to thank you for the Interview with the vampire catch. I checked with the book and she is 5 years old. Great memory there :P In the movie she was played by Kirsten Dunst I think, I know for a fact that she was 12 years old. No idea where they got the 7 years old from but rest easy, I've made the appropriate change. Feel free to make your own edits and when in doubt, use multiple sources. The documentary on interview with the vampire actually covers the fact that Claudia was the wrong age and gives a reason why. The reason I mention this is you hit it right on with the reason. Anyways, have fun editing :) Mikeyboy52 (talk) 09:15, 28 January 2013 (GMT)

Thanks! I am nearly as fanatical about the Vampire Chronicles as I am with Elder Scrolls. :) --Scribbles (Crayolamanic) (talk) 12:00, 24 February 2013 (GMT)

Signature[edit]

Hey there! About your signature... you don't have any links to your talk or userpage in it, which is sometimes inconvenient. It would be great if you could add one! To do this, in your preferences, uncheck "Treat the above as wiki markup" or format your custom signature like this:

[[User:Crayolamanic|Scribbles]]

Or this:

Scribbles ([[User:Crayolamanic|Crayolamanic]])

...or something along those lines. If you'd like to try some fancier formatting (like adding color) but don't know how, feel free to ask! I'd be glad to help. Vely►t►e 20:43, 21 February 2013 (GMT)

Thanks for the note, Vely! I copied the second example into my signature box, but it looked awkward, with too many brackets. I don't know which elements to include or what is extra. I need to learn more about markup! I don't have any background yet. For now, I do what I know how to do, and any input is MUCH appreciated. :) --Scribbles (Crayolamanic) (talk) 00:02, 22 February 2013 (GMT)
You're very welcome.
The brackets are what make the links. Here is some formatting help, and don't forget that you can always test out formats in a sandbox. It'll take a while to learn it all, but you'll learn it soon enough :) Vely►t►e 00:09, 22 February 2013 (GMT)
I have a question that this very conversation brought up - when conversating back and forth on a talk page, are you supposed to indent further each time you reply, or use your same indent quantity each time? I thought it was to separate the lines from each other to make it visually easier to keep track of who is saying what, but it looks like each successive comment is indented further. I think I may have been doing this wrong all along.
I figured out to use the "paste as plain text" option and check the box again to make use of your second signature suggestion. Thanks for that.
And about the colors in my signature/help offer, I was indeed hoping for a bit of --Scribbles (Crayolamanic) 22:48, 24 February 2013 (GMT)assistance with making my signature (Scribbles) in a different color for each letter, like a pride-type rainbow. Can you help me with this? I think I may have sent you an email on this, but not sure if it actually sent. I had to close the laptop in a hurry and may have forgotten to hit send. Thanks yet again! :) --Scribbles (Crayolamanic) 12:20, 24 February 2013 (GMT)
The indents go one more each comment, with {{od}} added instead of indents when it indents too far (I typically go out to five indents before outdenting), but if you remove indents without the outdent, it's fine. It's to separate comments and keep them neat.
I replied to your email with an example, but if you'd rather have Scribbles instead of Crayolamanic, I can email you the format for that, too. Vely►t►e 17:55, 24 February 2013 (GMT)

I love it. THANKS! I just thought Scribbles might fit better in the box, but it's PERFECT, let's keep it! So then, we can continue this through email, but I wanted to make a little happy dance here for the world to see for the help you've given. *^_^* Now to get that pretty code to actually appear at the press of the signature button! --Scribbles (Crayolamanic) 22:48, 24 February 2013 (GMT)

Headers[edit]

Hi. Not sure if you'll see my edit in Recent Changes, so I'm going to make a note here just in case. To make a header, either click on the giant A in the toolbar above the editing box, or use two equal signs, followed by what you want to write, followed by two more equal signs (so =*= insert header here =*= but without the asterisksksksksksksksksks). --Rezalon (talk) 12:18, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
