Jake Riley was a Breton Mage born on 20th Rain's Hand 3E416. He lived in Camlorn, High Rock. He left on his 16th birthday in 3E432 for a new life in Cyrodiil. Upon arrival however, he was arrested, falsely accused of murdering a group of merchants, who had fell victim to a raid by bandits just north of the city. Whilst incarcerated, Uriel Septim VII needed to pass through his cell to escape an assassination attempt, and so Jake followed. His adventures thereafter made him one of the most famous people in all of Cyrodiil.

Biography[edit]

Youth In High Rock[edit]

Born to Amanda and Jason Riley, two Breton nobles, Jake had a relatively high-class upbringing. He was trained by his mother in the use of Magicka, and his father taught him some basic swordfighting skills. On his sixteenth birthday, he decided to leave High Rock, and travelled to Chorrol in Cyrodiil. Upon arrival outside the city, he was arrested by the town guard on accusation of murder. He learned from the guards that a group of merchants had been killed, and he was the prime suspect. He was transported to the Imperial City Prison and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Escape from Prison[edit]

On 27th Last Seed, 3E433, Emperor Uriel Septim VII passes through his cell, attempting to escape the Mythic Dawn. Following, Jake dispatched many rats, a zombie, and a few Mythic Dawn agents. The Emperor seemed to see something in Jake, a great destiny, and shortly before his death, entrusted him with the Amulet of Kings. Then, an assassin appeared behind them, and killed the Emperor. After felling the assassin, Jake talked with the only other survivor, the Blade known as Baurus. He instructed Jake to seek out Jauffre at Weynon Priory near the city of Chorrol.

Upon arrival at the Priory, he sought out Jauffre, who initially did not believe Jake was present when the Emperor was assassinated. Upon seeing the Amulet of Kings, however, Jauffre agreed to help Jake, and sent him out to Kvatch to find the Emperor's illegitimate son, Martin. The monks of the Priory provided him with some equipment, a skill book, a horse and a place to stay.

Kvatch[edit]

Jake arrived at Kvatch to find little more than a refugee camp. He was soon informed that the Daedra had launched a siege on the city, and that a Gate to Oblivion itself was open outside the city gates. He was told to meet with Savlian Matius, the captain of the Kvatch Guard, and decided it would be best to try and close the gate from the inside.

Upon arrival in Oblivion, he met Ilend Vonius, who accompanied him to the Sigillum Sanguis. Here, he removed the Sigil Stone and the gate closed. He found himself outside Kvatch, and offered his aid to Captain Matius in a counter-siege of the city. The strike team pressed forward to the Chapel of Akatosh, where he found Brother Martin. Martin agreed to accompany him to Weynon Priory, but before they left, they helped rid the city of Daedra and retrieve the Colovian Signet Ring from the corpse of Count Ormellius Goldwine.

Upon returning to Weynon Priory, Jake and Martin discover the Mythic Dawn are assaulting the place, and have killed Prior Maborel. Along with Jauffre, they defeat the attackers, but discover that the Amulet of Kings has gone. It is then that they decide to take Martin to Cloud Ruler Temple, home of the Blades and the most secure fortress in all of Cyrodiil.

Infiltrating the Mythic Dawn[edit]

Raven Camoran, handling Mythic Dawn admissions under the Imperial City.

Jake then accepted an offer from Jauffre to join the Blades. He was told to meet Baurus in the Imperial City and set up a research the Mythic Dawn. The duo managed to track them down to the Imperial City Sewers, and killed Raven Camoran, the son of the Mythic Dawn's leader. Using clues left in Mankar Camoran's Commentaries on the Mysterium Xarxes, Jake managed to pinpoint the location of the cult's secret Dagon Shrine, and travelled there.

Undercover as a Mythic Dawn initiate, he managed to infiltrate the base, and as Mankar Camoran made his escape with the Amulet of Kings, he killed his daughter, Ruma Camoran, and took the Mysterium Xarxes. He also managed to free Jeelius, an Argonian priest who was about to be sacrificed to Dagon. Arriving back at the Temple, Jake was soon given another task.

Aiding Bruma[edit]

Bruma, target of a Mythic Dawn scheme.

Jake was to kill two Mythic Dawn spies who were spying on the city of Bruma. Jearl and Saveri Faram were soon defeated by Jake, but he found a harrowing note detailing the cult's schemes to open a Great Gate to Oblivion outside Bruma, which would completely destroy the city. Action had to be taken to fortify the city. When a lesser gate opened, Jake showed Captain Burd, head of the Castle Guard how to close them. Jake also travelled to each of the cities of Cyrodiil and pleaded for soldiers to aid Bruma. This involved Jake closing multiple Oblivion Gates, as they were open around all of the cities. Anvil sent two guards, Bravil sent Viera Lerus, Cheydinhal sent Ulrich Leland and another guard, Leyawiin sent a guard, and Skingrad sent a guard. The reinforcements made a camp outside the Castle, and prepared for battle, while Martin had prepared another task for Jake to complete.

Aiding Martin[edit]

Wabbajack, a tool of mischief that was finally put to good use.

To open a portal into Mankar Camoran's Paradise, Martin needed four items. One with the Blood of a Daedric Lord, one with the blood of one of the Nine Divines, one Great Sigil Stone and one Great Welkynd Stone. To obtain the first of the items, Jake had to seek out a Daedra Shrine in the wilderness. He went to the Shrine of Sheogorath near Leyawiin, and performed a task for him. He brought forward the K'Sharra Prophecy of Border Watch, playing havoc with the citizens of the small Khajiit village. His reward was Wabbajack, a staff shaped by Sheogorath himself.

Tiber Septim, Martin's ancestor, Emperor of Tamriel. Also known as Talos, one of the Nine Divines.

Then, he journeyed to Sancre Tor, an old Blades stronghold that was corrupted by an evil spirit, to retrieve the Armor of Tiber Septim. He succeeded not only in this, but in destroying the evil entity and releasing the trapped souls of four long-dead Blades.

His next task was to travel to the great Ayleid ruin of Miscarcand, and retrieve their Great Welkynd Stone. Taking the stone invoked the wrath of the spirit of the Last King of Miscarcand, who appeared as a mighty Lich, which attacked Jake on sight. After a brief duel between the two, the spirit was destroyed, and Jake proceeded to take the Welkynd Stone to Martin. It was upon his return that Martin informed him of the circumstances of retrieving a Great Sigil Stone. They had to let the Mythic Dawn open a Great Gate outside Bruma.

The Battle of Bruma[edit]

The Great Gate to Oblivion that opened just outside Bruma.

Countess Narina Carvain of Bruma approved reluctantly of Martin's plan, and a small force consisting of Martin Septim, Jake Riley, the Bruma City Guard, the reinforcements, Jauffre and Baurus travelled to an Oblivion Gate outside Bruma and waited for a Great Gate to open. Jake was ordered inside to retrieve the Great Sigil Stone and close the gate before the Daedric Siege Crawler emerged. He was successful in doing so, and reached the stone seconds before the Siege Crawler reached the gate. The ruins of the Siege Crawler were left outside Bruma and a statue was erected in Jake's honour. Now, Martin had all the items needed to open a portal to Paradise, so he returned with Jake to Cloud Ruler Temple.
