Eric Snowmane: The Character Behind My Name[edit]

Note: That in order to not break too much lore, because even with my own character that would bug me, Eric Snowmane is not assumed to be either the Nerevarine or the Champion of Cyrodiil. Although, he did meet the Nerevarine once. He was a great chap and they had some drinks before the Nerevarine would travel into the Ghostgate to battle Dagoth Ur.

Early Life[edit]

Eric Snowmane was born in 3E 373 as Eric Whitecaller, in the town of Solitude in Skyrim, to an ex-Legionnaire and a city guard. Having two parents in the guard, Eric was raised around weapons, armor, and blacksmiths, so he naturally learned to be a fierce warrior.

When he became an adult, he joined the Imperial Legion, and he was stationed in Mournhold in the province of Morrowind, where he participated, in the Arnesian War. After the war, he was promoted to a Knight-Errant and moved to Fort Moonmoth, where he was stationed until his discharge in 3E 412 for insulting and striking the Knight-Protector in charge of the fort during a drunken argument.

For the next 6 years, Eric would wander Morrowind and Cyrodiil doing whatever he could to make ends meet, which typically involved "shady" job. In 3E 418, the dishonored hero was incarcerated in the Imperial City prison, where he would stay for the next decade.

Events of Morrowind[edit]

In 3E 427, during the month of Last Seed, Eric was released from prison and returned to Morrowind, because that was his last known address. When he got there, he wandered Vvardenfell without purpose until he joined the Tribunal Temple after hearing a sermon in Ald-ruhn. Swayed by the teachings of Vivec and the rest of the Tribunal, he began praying and performing charity work. The Nord even put away the mead and sobered up.

Within a few months, his reputation as the Nord in the Tribunal, who would pray with the best of the Dunmer, opened a few doors for him, and he was admitted to House Redoran, where he quickly rose in ranks to become Athyn Sarethi's friend and partner, eventually owning a home out in the Ashlands north of Ald-ruhn.

Events of Oblivion[edit]

Despite his new fame and friendships in Morrowind, the 54 year old Nord missed the adventures of his youth, and he left Vvardenfell in 3E 433 to travel to Cyrodiil again, to have one final adventure before his age overtook him. Arriving in the Imperial City, Eric heard about the attack on Anvil, and he set out to investigate.

Looking at this quest as a way to further atone for what he had done years ago before his incarceration, he began traveling to wayshrines of the Divines, praying for help to find the Crusader's Relics of Pelinal Whitestrake and reform the Knights of the Nine to defeat Umaril the Unfeathered. After weeks of prayer and searching, Eric rekindled the faith he had in Talos back in his Legion days, took on the name Snowmane, and he gathered the Crusader's Relics. Then, on the eve of the first of 4E 1, Eric and the Knights of the Nine took the battle to Umaril, where with the help of the Divines, Eric came out on top, killing Umaril physically and spiritually.

Returning to the Priory of the Nine, Eric Snowmane set the armor and weapons of Pelinal on the weapons stand, leaving them with the surviving Knights of the Nine, and set out traveling across Tamriel, teaching the lessons of the Divines blended with the lessons of Vivec and the Tribunal, despite its collapse a few years prior.

Death[edit]

In 4E 30, at the old age of 90, Eric Snowmane died in his birthplace of Solitude, where he had been visiting his family there. He was interred there, next to his mother and father, bearing a plaque that said, "Here lies Eric Snowmane, friend of the Dunmer and Divine Crusader of the Nine. Devout servant to the Nine and to the Tribunal. May he rest peacefully in Sovngarde."

Jayred Snowmane[edit]

Note: Whereas Eric Snowmane exists during two games and can not be both Nerevarine and Champion of Cyrodiil from a lore perspective, Jayred Snowmane is currently off on his own with only one game currently set within his lifetime, so I will break habit and declare him "Dovahkiin". Also, canonically, there is no given ending to the civil war, so in order to not make up whole, elaborate stories about how the Civil War ends, I am not going to touch it in detail.

Early Life[edit]

In 4E 182, Jayred Snowmane was born in Bruma to Holger and Anja Snowmane, a veteran of the Great War and a simple farmer respectively. As with all men of the Snowmane family, Jayred was raised with a blade in his hand, his parents fervently hoping he would uphold the family tradition to enlist in the Imperial Legion. Despite the ban on Talos worship, which was ratified seven years prior to his birth at the conclusion of the Great War, he was raised worshiping Talos, which proved difficult in the Imperial capital province. Thalmor and Legion warriors patrolled the streets keeping all talk of Talos under wraps and punishing those dissidents who refused.

Always under the Empire's watchful eyes, he frequently found himself in trouble for discussion Talos with other residents of Bruma, and it was only his youth that spared him from merciless beatings at the hands of the Thalmor agents residing in the Count's halls. Despite it all, he maintained his desire to wish to join the Imperial Legion, and quickly learned to quiet down on public Talos worship.

In 4E 201, when he was nineteen years old, he finally had enough coin to join the Legion, and he began traveling for Skyrim to visit the Snowmane family crypt, where his ancestor, the Divine Crusader, was interred, before signing up in Solitude to help suppress the Stormcloak Rebellion

Events of Skyrim[edit]

When he was crossing the border, he could hear the sounds of screaming and blades clashing, and he went to investigate. General Tulius' Legionnaires were in combat with the Stormcloaks and the rebel jarl. As Jayred moved up closer for a better view, Imperial Archers dropped down from some trees they were using for a vantage point, and they held him prisoner, mistaking him for a rebel.

Along with the rest of the Stormcloaks, and a horse thief, he was taken to Helgen, where he was to be executed for treason along with the rest of the Stormcloaks, and he would have been, had Alduin not shown up. The town was destroyed, and along with another legionnaire, Hadvar, he was able to escape the destroyed village and make it to Riverwood.

With fresh supplies from Hadvar's family, Jayred set out for Whiterun to notify Jarl Balgruuf of the dragon attack and to get aid sent to Riverwood in the event of another attack. The Jarl agreed, and in return, Jayred traveled to Bleak Falls Barrow to retrieve an ancient tablet that Whiterun's court wizard believed could help to fight the dragons.

Snowmane Family Tree[edit]

This is the Snowmane Family Tree, documenting the Snowmane lineage from the late Third Era into the Fourth... And it will expand either direction and go further as new games are released to give me a timeframe to place a Snowmane.

This is mostly just an excuse to use the {{Chart}} template and experiment with it. I don't plan on doing fanfictions about the Snowmane family, but I will bold the names of a Snowmane who is in an interesting point of time, for example, Lars Snowmane (4E 155-4E 174), Skyrim character Jayred's uncle, who was alive in during the Great War, but I decided to kill during it. I will elaborate any circumstances that might need explanation, if the timeline becomes complicated in certain areas.

A last important thing about the chart: Because it could expand infinitely away from the bloodline as Snowmane females marry into new families, I have decided to end lines in the chart at females, as they would marry out of the Snowmane name, and I am only following the male line and the actual surname of "Snowmane".

For more information on the Snowmane Family, including individual biographies of each, see Snowmane Family on Snowmane's Character Database.

Possibilities For A Story[edit]

If I do make a story, I would pick one who was in an interesting era of time, rather than document random Snowmanes who have nothing going for them in the era besides boring common life. This is a list of people I've bolded, and what the possibility I have in mind for them is, ordered by personal interest. Most interesting concept at the top, least at the bottom.

  • Lila Scargale: This on is a surprise! :D
  • Lars:(4E 155-4E 174) Uncle to Jayred Snowmane who died in the first battle for the Imperial City during the Great War, leaving behind his young wife and no descendants of his own

Additional Notes[edit]

  • Katria Selone died giving birth to her and Hewer's son Jolf.
  • Hadrik died a few months after birth.
  • Lars Snowmane was married to Imperial Selena Varo, but was sent to fight in the Great War shortly after, and therefore died without heirs of his own.
  • Whilst technically not a Snowmane, I've included Karlaith's daughter Lila in the tree because I am definite on the desire to include her in a story of some sorts.
