Gem Reward[edit]

I got Petty Soul Gem. --Aleksa 18:13, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Not appearing in Misc Objectives.[edit]

Does this normally appear as an objective, or does he just ask you to do it. — Unsigned comment by Nothinglord (talkcontribs) at 23:54 on 1 February 2012‎

It doesn't show up in Misc Objectives for me either. It could be a bug, but I think it may be intentional, to keep you from easily getting the three misc quest credits for Thane of Winterhold by taking two minutes to find his alembic over and over. EmmBee 07:47, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Infinite quest[edit]

Actually in my both playthroughs this quest was repeating indefinitely. You simply need to leave and reenter the College of Winterhold location, ask Tolfdir, go to opposite Hall, return and get a reward. The noticable difference that in my first play I completed the Arch-Mage title very early in the game and Tolfdir giving me just 30 gold for each return, however in my current play he gives me each time not only 30 gold but a random gem from petty to common.--89.23.163.29 00:32, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Bugs wording?[edit]

"Once the big orb is in the Hall of Attainment..."? Is this a reference to the Eye of Magnus? If so, it never appears in the Hall of Attainment but rather the Hall of the Elements. --Razorsoup 00:11, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Quest log bug[edit]

If you pick up the alembic before getting the quest and therefor finish it right away, the objective "Find Tolfdir's missing alembic" will be stuck in your Quest log forever, I have yet to find a way to remove that entry. — Unsigned comment by 91.50.252.9 (talk) at 10:56 on 3 March 2013‎

Picking up the Alembic before getting the quest will bug it out. The Quest log entry to find the missing alembic will be stuck in the quest log forever. A way to fix it, is to simply drop the alembic, get the quest and then speak to Tolfdir again. However once the entry bugged out, there is NO way to remove that quest entry. Neither sestage nor resetQuest etc in the console work.

This happened to me also on Windows 7 PC. I found the alembic near the enchanter before I received the quest to find it. When I turned it in to him, the quest was still in my log. I am running the unofficial patch and also skyui and convenient horses, so I can't confirm this without mods. 71.131.130.9 10:05, 22 September 2013 (GMT)
I was able to remove the entry from my Quest log by using resetquest MGR01 and then talking to Tolfdir to start the quest again. Upon finding and returning the item the second time, the entry was removed.--67.170.73.83 04:33, 11 November 2013 (GMT)
The original game has no objective at all. The unofficial patch added one, so this is a bug introduced by the USKP. --Alfwyn (talk) 20:00, 30 December 2013 (GMT)
And for a fix, I don't have USKP installed, but from looking at the data, "SetObjectiveCompleted MGR01 10 1" should make the objective disappear. --Alfwyn (talk) 20:18, 30 December 2013 (GMT)
I have USKP v2.0.0a. Picked alembic before the quest. Then spoke with Tolfdir and took the quest. Used SetObjectiveCompleted MGR01 10 1 - quest entry gone, and then gave the alembic to Tolfdir for reward. sry for my ENG — Unsigned comment by 31.28.236.50 (talk) at 01:46 on 27 January 2014
Just as a note, this issue is corrected by USKP v. 2.0.1, which is still in beta. --Blackpete (talk) 01:19, 31 January 2014 (GMT)

Added as radiant?[edit]

This is a radiant quest, but it is not set to have a radiant link when using its {{Quest Link}}. Could someone change this (I don't know how). Emitewiki2 (talk) 01:01, 17 February 2015 (GMT)

Alembic not removed from inventory[edit]

Playing fully updated LE with the last version of USLEEP and when completing the quest, the alembic isn't removed from my inventory. This does make the repeats of the quest a lot easier though. Anyone else experience this? --Dragos Drakkar (talk) 00:24, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
