Glitch

I can't sell the Left Eye of the Falmer to Delvin. Quest stage 200 is marked as 1, even though 80 and 85 are marked as 0 (using the sqs command) - meaning the quest can't be set to stage 80 using the console. 112.201.196.17 11:11, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

I had that same problem. Here's what I did as a workaround. After I killed Mercer, I selected it on the console and removed the left eye of the falmer using the command removeitem 0001994f 1. Then I selected the player and added the eye using the command additem 0001994f 1. Finally I used the command setstage TGLarceny 80 and it updated correctly on the quest log, stating that I should deliver the eye to Delvin. --85.138.148.174 15:02, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
The workaround described above succeed, but Left Eye of the Falmer remains in player's inventory after it's given to Delvin. The item is therefore duplicated (one being on the shelf and one in player inventory). A removeitem 001994f 1 on player should end up things properly. — Unsigned comment by 94.34.241.245 (talk) at 20:15 on 3 January 2012
The workaround above does not appear to work once quest stage 200 is marked as 1. You cannot add or remove the eye using console and you cannot set the quest stage to 80. 70.65.72.46 07:01, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

() Playing on my brother's copy (Xbox) and encountered this, among many many other glitches. Nothing less than what I expected though, after playing Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout. I don't plan to buy Skyrim until the GOTY edition, and even then i'll probably have to download unofficial patches to fix things Bethesda has overlooked. The scope and presence of Bethesda's games is amazing, and I fully enjoy playing each of them to an extent... but it has gotten to the point where I know beforehand not to purchase a Bethesda game on release (especially not for console). I can't fault them for wanting to make deadlines and being competitive in the gaming industry, but they really need to do more QA testing, even if it means releasing a beta (UESP is living proof nobody can find glitches/bugs better than the player base). — Unsigned comment by 24.247.177.201 (talk) at 06:38 on 10 January 2012

PC Version: On this stage, I was also getting the problem where I would loot the Left Eye but no quest update occurred. I had turned in all other litany items in correct order up to this point. (I had also completed all of Delvin's 4 reputation side quests.) What worked for me was to save game before entering the room with the Mercer fight. Bring up console and enter setstage TGLarceny 80. Complete the Mercer fight but DO NOT pick up the Left Eye of Falmer from his body. When I returned to Delvin, I turned in the quest as normal and the Eye was displayed on the guild shelves. Hope this helps. — Unsigned comment by Jetiste (talkcontribs) at 14:16 on 29 January 2012
This no longer applies nor is necessary under version 1.4.21. The quest is set to stage 75 once you turn in the Bust of the Gray Fox and stays there until the moment you pick up/loot the Left Eye of the Falmer. At that point, the stage is set to 200 and the quest is over. The Left Eye of the Falmer is no longer considered to be a quest item in 1.4.21 and as such, can not be turned in to Delvin, as no journal entry appears prompting you to do so.Kastagir 02:49, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
While the preceding comment is correct, it is still possible to turn in the Left Eye on 1.4.21 as described above. (i.e. do not loot the Left Eye, but instead setstage TGLarceny 80 after killing Mercer.) You can then speak with Delvin to complete the quest and receive the reward. — Unsigned comment by 174.63.105.224 (talk) at 22:41 on 11 February 2012

Stolen Out of Order

I stole the items out of order, and discovered that picking up the Gray Fox bust seems to break the whole quest. If I pick it up before turning in the rest of the remaining treasures, Delvin won't accept any of them. I avoided picking it up until I gave the rest of the loot to him, but now he won't accept the bust. Is there any way to fix this? I tried setstage TGLarceny 70, but the dialogue option still wasn't available. If it matters, I've already completed Blindsighted and retrieved the Eye. --Legoless 20:17, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

It seems picking up the left eye of the falmer sets the quest stage to 200 for whatever reason, which marks the quest as complete and blocks other stages and objectives as its treated as an ended quest. Its quite annoying. Only workaround seems to be not picking up the left eye from Mercer then spawning a copy in your inventory via console commands, and setting the quest stage to 80. 87.194.26.132 15:40, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Ran into this problem myself, however I turned in the Gray Fox Bust before I turned in any of the other items and it didn't break the quest for me. However, I picked up and turned in the left eye, then later I found the map and the ship and when I tried to turn those in the quest was already broken. I'm blaming the left eye for breaking the quest like the post above me ^ (99.136.224.214 06:11, 12 December 2011 (UTC))
I have also done this but I sold him everything and picked up the eye and sold it but got the bust last and he still wont take it this is a serious problem if I can't do a simple thing like this it's going to turn me away from elder scroll games its total BS they should change the games name to elderglitch skyripoff — Unsigned comment by 66.87.95.204 (talk) at 17:42 on 12 December 2011
It's so disappointing that the last few TG quests are so buggy. It really kills the whole experience. However, given how massive and complex the game is, in terms of all the systems at work, it's quite amazing that there aren't more issues. I think it is unfair to brand the entire game glitchy or a "ripoff" due to a few experiences within one of hundreds of quests. That being said, I'm having a similar problem that the second poster described.
I hadn't had any problems with any of the Larceny targets until this final item. (The Eyes of The Falmer) Then again, I stole everything in order; but it's also worth mentioning that I had countless problems with all the quests from "Trinity Restored" onwards, and was only able to complete them with considerable use of console commands. I was basically fixing the scripts throughout. So now I'm stuck with both eyes and Delvin doesn't have the dialogue option to buy them. (I, of course looted them both at the same time, which apparently broke/finished the quest as per the post above) I can't wait until they release the Skyrim modding tools in January so I can finally complete my Larceny collection and possibly fix the bugs with the last few TG quests, unless someone beats me to it. I've read on numerous forums of people having tons of different issues with them; all seeming to stem from issues with Karliah's AI, or general scripting issues, like me. --Ashen7 00:04, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

() Ok, after playing through the Thieves' Guild questline a few times, here's what I have discovered. There's basically 2 ways to do the Larceny quest.

1. You can give Delvin the artifacts in order or out of order, but regardless of that, he will not take the falmer eye from you.
2. You can skip giving Delvin all or some of the artifacts, but once you have the falmer eye, Delvin will no longer accept any other artifacts.

So basically, you have two choices as of right now. You must choose to either sacrifice not giving the falmer eye to Delvin, or you must sacrifice not giving Delvin a different artifact so he will take the falmer eye. I have done the guild quest line 4 times, from start to finish, and I was never able to get Delvin to accept ALL of the artifacts. If anyone has been successful, please let us know the secret. (99.136.224.214 07:19, 17 December 2011 (UTC))

Confirmed on XBOX, Not Falmer Eye, but Last Item which makes the difference. Delvin will not accept the LAST thing you take, and will stop taking anything at that point. I was able to give him the items up until I picked up the Model Ship (which I hadn't picked up yet, forgot to go back for it). However, when I picked up the ship, I got the Complete message, and couldn't give him anything. Reloaded before I picked up the Ship, went back to him, sold him both items, on of which was the Left Eye of the Falmer. --DaedalusMachina 05:26, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
PC FOr the PC, i grabbed everything and went back to start turning them in. I was unable to turn anything in at all. I had the ALL artifacts but he wouldnt take anything. He seemed to be stuck in the loop where he talks about how i am shaking things up and he has gotten a special request which almost never happens. — Unsigned comment by 76.125.145.130 (talk) at 16:54 on 30 December 2011
On Xbox It doesn't seem to matter what you turn in to Delvin or what order you retrieve the items. I only turned in the Bust of the Gray Fox, retrieved the Left Eye of the Falmer (but didn't turn it in) then went back and retrieved all the other items in order. As soon as I picked up the Puzzle Cube, I received several "Completed: Return <item> to Delvin" messages and no longer have the option to turn them in. Picking up the seventh item, whatever that may be, seems to be the trigger for this. 72.182.124.196 14:42, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Quest is Not in Log

Is this quest meant to appear in the quest log? I found the Golden Bee, and took it to Delvin who bought it off me, but it was only assigned as a 'miscellaneous' objective.

I'm on a console, is this a glitch or not? Is the quest meant to appear as a separate objective, or just miscellaneous ones? — Unsigned comment by 86.168.157.122 (talk) at 23:07 on 22 December 2011

My hypothesis is that he won't accept any more larceny items after you become the head of the thieves guild. Personally, that's what happened with me. However, it is also possible that you can't turn any more in after the Eye of the Falmer is turned in as well. Both seem to be viable. So, does anyone have any experiences that conflict with either scenario for PC version? (edited because my post made the page look like trash) --68.102.252.97 00:09, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
The quest is bugged. The last item you pick up, isn't registered. --Killfetzer 15:07, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
I am on the PC... i Never turned in the Grey Ghost Bust. And now i cant turn anything in. I have the eye and everything i just can turn anything in. Delvin keeps saying talking about how i am turning heads and he got a special request which almost never happens. Kind of screws you on being the Guild Leader — Unsigned comment by 76.125.145.130 (talk) at 16:50 on 30 December 2011
I'm playing on PS3, and I never gave him the Model Ship. However, he still bought the Cube, the Bust and the Eye from me, so it might just be a bug. Elakyn 21:40, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
@Unsigned -- If you're getting a "special request" that means you're getting one of the four special quests to become guild leader. Do that, then come back to Delvin, who should have his normal dialog back. As far as the turn-ins being borked - I'm on PC, turned in everything but the East Empire map, which I can't turn in. Either the quest bugs out on the Eye of the Falmer, or it bugs out and you can't turn in the last item, regardless of order. All stages are marked "1" except 40 & 45, which correspond to the EETC Map.98.165.130.46 03:50, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Bugs and fixes

I've moved all this from the article because it's not suitable for the main page. If someone can actually understand it, they might like to rewrite it so it's no longer in the form of an essay. rpeh •TCE 14:49, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Possible fix for model ship bug. Do not pick up the ship back in Snow Veil Catacombs for ship, stand next to Delvin Mallory (although anywhere else is fine too) type "setstage TGLarceny 50" on command console, message should pop up to tell you deliver the ship to him, if you pick up the ship that was in the Snow Veil Catacomb, message will just pop up saying quest is completed you actually turning in the quest. In order to fix this, type "player.additem 0006f266 1" which adds 1 model ship in your inventory, now talk to Delvin Mallory and he should give you the open to turn in the quest, receive your gold, and have the ship appear in the bookcase.

Encountered same kind of bugs described above after obtaining the 'Left Eye of the Falmer' before the 'Queen Bee Statue', 'EETC Map' and 'Dwemer Puzzle Cube'. At this point 'GetStage TGLarceny' returned 85. Retrieving any single remaining item would trigger the 'return ... to Delvin' prompt but after returning it the two remaining items would not trigger the prompt: the quest progressed to stage 200. Retrieving two of the three items and returning them both at the same time would result in the the last remaining item still bugged and it would not trigger the return prompt. Retrieving the Dwemer Puzzle Cube would often result in any previous 'return' objectives to become completed (while the items still remained in the inventory) and the remaining items would not trigger a return prompt: again, the quest progressed to stage 200. Setstage will not work once the quest is at stage 200 and you can no longer turn in items so you will ultimately have a missing item on the shelves due to the bugs. As a workaround, first retrieve the 'Queen Bee Statue' and the 'EETC Map', then return to Delvin and sell them. At this point the quest will still be at stage 85. Don't try to pick up the cube as it will bug the quest. Use 'setstage TGLarceny 60' and you will receive the prompt to return the 'Dwemer Puzzle Cube' to Delvin, even though it isn't in your inventory. Talk to Delvin again and sell him the cube and he will give you the gold and it will appear on the shelf. Now go retrieve the cube and use 'player.removeitem 0005598c 1' to remove it from your inventory. All the larceny targets should appear on the shelves, you will have gotten paid for the jobs and TGLarceny will be at stage 200 (completed).

Sometimes when you enter the Dwemer Museum to retrieve the 'Dwemer Puzzle Cube' the quest 'Hard Answers' will start again after you've already completed it. To prevent this, use 'SetStage TG06 200'. It will say that Hard Answers has been completed (again) and you will receive a duplicate Nightingale Blade which you can remove from your inventory using 'Player.removeitem 000f6527 1'

Quest changes as of 1.4.21

First, this quest page needs to be clarified in a few ways. It is not a normal quest and will not appear in your journal. When you pick up an item that Delvin wants, an entry will appear in the miscellaneous quests portion of the journal - there is no "Litany of Larceny" quest that these tasks are a part of, at least not in any form that appears in the game. Any reference to "Litany of Larceny" is restricted to game files. Second, as of 1.4.21, the Left Eye of the Falmer is no longer a quest item. When you turn in the bust of the gray fox, the quest TGLarceny will be set to stage 75. At the moment you loot the Left Eye of the Falmer from Mercer Frey's body, the TGLarceny quest gets set to stage 200. As the Left Eye of the Falmer is not a quest item, there is no further instruction to hand this in to Delvin - you're done. Kastagir 02:41, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Basically, the underlying bug is that the quest is set to stage 200 (= done, can't turn in any further items to Delvin) whenever you loot the seventh item. That is, the seventh one you personally pick up - not necessarily Left Eye of the Falmer, although that will happen to be the seventh if you nab each one as you encounter them. Any items you haven't turned in when that happens (which will definitely include the seventh item, and may also include earlier ones if you haven't turned them in yet), you no longer get the option to turn in. The fix for the bug (for some enterprising soul who understands the CK better than I do) would be for the script to count the number of larceny items you've turned in, rather than the number of larceny items you've looted, and trigger quest completion upon turn-in #7 rather than loot #7. 174.63.19.133 01:11, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
I agree with you completely Kasta, but some of the other users get pretty pissy if you try and make articles reflect what's accurate instead of what's in the files. At the very least, I feel that the quest stage section should be fixed to reflect the fact that it is a miscellaneous quest. ThuumofReason 19:19, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. Is there any way to manipulate the game with the console into turning in all 7 and having the quest complete? Resetting the quest didn't seem to give me options for the Eye. --Theothersteve7 06:20, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

I see alot of PC work arounds but what about xbox?

I have all the items but when I talk to delvin the dialog isn't there to sell them to him, but I can sell them to the merchant in the flaggon. Should I have done this before returning the skeleton key? Clearupright 21:50, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

There is a bug that means you cannot return the items once you picked up the final item. There is no work around for this on the xbox except maybe loading a save before you picked up the last one and selling the first six. You will still end up with the last once stuck in your invent but its better than all 7 items. If the last item is the falmer eye you can drop it. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 21:56, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
I can drop all items so at least I got that going for me Clearupright 00:06, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Easy fix using the console

If all you really want is to get the items to show up in the shelves all you have to do is select the item that you want using PRID and Enable it.

For example, for the Dwemer cube:

PRID e8efc
Enable

IDs for the Larceny target versions in the shelves:

e8ef8 Queen Bee Statue
e8ef9 Honningbrew Decanter
e8efa East Empire Shipping Map
e8efb Model Ship
e8efc Dwemer Puzzle Cube
e8efd Bust of the Gray Fox
e8efe Left Eye of the Falmer

I suggest standing in front of the shelves while Enabling, so you can see it happen. After that you can always just get rid of the items in your inventory(if necessary using removeitem). -- Solbard 10:49, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

In my version only e8ef8 and e8ef9 seem to work, when I use prid with others there is a [D] after the ID in the console and enable doesn't make it appear on the shelf. Where/how can I find alternative IDs? — Unsigned comment by 85.221.137.175 (talk) at 00:36 on 24 April 2012
Same issue here. I was able to get the Cube and Bee to place and stay but the Ship, Map and Bust all fall and I get the [D] when I prid:enable. — Unsigned comment by 72.200.19.69 (talk) at 03:21 on 8 August 2012

the left eye

I have skyrim on the xbox 360 and I too cannot give delvin, in fact once I pick up the eye, I do not even get any message to bring it delvin, can someone please tell me if there is a way to fix this? 217.137.157.197 19:04, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Final item is not final

"It does not matter what order you pick up the items, after picking up the final item the quest will be marked as complete and you will be no longer able to turn any of the items still in your inventory to Delvin Mallory"
The "sometimes" should be added. Though I caught almost all of the in-game bugs, I brought Empire Trading Map and Dwemer Cube long after finishing the TG questline and giving Delvin the Left Eye. May be it's a bug for other then PC platforms? — Unsigned comment by 46.203.54.21 (talk) at 12:23 on 23 February 2012

Not really fixed.

I just completed the Thieves' Guild quests and can't give Delvin the Eye. I have v1.5.26.0.5 so this still isn't fixed. 130.184.55.63 16:51, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

EDIT: The error is in TGLarcenyScript. The condition for setting the stage to 200 is checking if the count is greater than or equal to seven (having had activated all seven items) and if the current stage is less than 200. What it SHOULD do is check if the count is 7 and the quest stages ending in 5 are all complete (all items are turned in). The script SHOULD read:
if pTGLCount >= 7
        if (pTGLQuest.GetStageDone(25) &&  ; the current condition reads: pTGLQuest.GetStage() < 200
            pTGLQuest.GetStageDone(35) &&
            pTGLQuest.GetStageDone(45) &&

Are you playing a game you started before 1.5 was released, or from after. The Silencer has spokenTalk 18:56, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
I think I started the actual game I'm on a week or so after initial release. I know I started the quest long after 1.5. Some of the other bugs that have been "fixed" by 1.5 are fixed in the game I'm currently playing. I haven't found another one that's not though I am past most of them now. Opening the skyrim.esm (last updated on 3/29, with the 1.5 beta update) in the editor shows the error I described above. The patch page doesn't even reference this as a fixed bug. 130.184.55.63 19:16, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Bugs are complicated, on a current save game some will be fixed and others not, but all fixes should work in a new game save. I think the official advice from Bethesda is to start a new game with each patch, but that is unrealistic. It therefore seems that this is one bug that you will be stuck with, although I don't see it listed on the fixes. An IP user added the patch fix and I formatted it, but as its not on the patches page I will remove it until someone can say if its true. The Silencer has spokenTalk 19:36, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
I understand why they say restart after patches. Since it's still bugged in the 1.5.26 esm I would imagine that starting a new game wouldn't make a difference. I realize all you have is one IP user's word over another, but I did research on this and provided evidence. :) 130.184.55.63 19:44, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

() No-one who has added to the patch page about fixes has included this, ergo it is not fixed and removed note about being fixed. The Silencer has spokenTalk 19:48, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Last Item Bug

After 3 full playthroughs, I have discovered that no matter what the last item is, it seems to break the quest. I cant sell the item to Delvin, and the quest vanishes from my list. So ive confirmed that it doesn't matter about what position you are in the guild or anything, the quest almost always breaks upon picking up the final item, no matter what it is. I'm on xbox and I'm trying to find a fix so don't post your stories or encounters but post suggestions, what you've tried and what you know doesn't work as a fix. So far I'm dropping some of the objects and picking them back up and will try to pickpocket them into his enventory. That's all I have for now. Complete? Yes or no

If the quest is marked as complete or doesn't affect your guild master status or the quest line does it matter if you sell it to delvin or someone else? — Unsigned comment by 24.57.73.23 (talk) at 12:29 on July 8, 2012

No its an optional quest and wont affect you becoming Guild Master or completing the Thieves Guild quests. All the quest does is adds the items to the Cistern and you get some cash. I am unsure if you can sell the items to other merchants however, if you can and don't care about the unique items then you can sell them. --SPMcKinney 13:05, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Gray Fox bust is missing

Playing on pc didn't have a problem retrieving and turning in the bust, however on a subsequent return to the den I noticed the bust was missing. Because of its placement at the corner of the desk, it's very easy to knock the ust off and send it flying. Try looking in the pools of water nearby. — Unsigned comment by 74.69.127.245 (talk) at 04:41 on 10 July 2012

Glitch resolved?

Has the glitch been resolved? As of patch 1.7 I can turn in "the left eye of falmer" and "the bust of the grey fox" after picking up the eye of falmer, is it just me or is the bug resolved? Xainiax 06:01, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

I'm on 1.7, too, and I can't. New save from start - finish on this patch, and I have this bloody eye with me forever My guess would be that you missed one of the items. My understanding is the bug is dependent on turning in all 7, and the seventh being glitched, not the bust in particular Homosexual Knave (talk) 19:18, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
