Error[edit]

xbox 360 version appears to have a large glaring error in Korvanjund, where there is a chance that the dungeon will have a rock collapse in it's entry way that makes it impossible to proceed with the Jagged Crown Imperial army quest. — Unsigned comment by 24.35.103.207 (talk) at 22:15 on 19 November 2011

PC has the same error. 174.134.197.172 07:36, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

The Jagged Crown (apparel), bug?[edit]

I can wear it with any other headwear. The Crown isn't visable when another headwear is worn. So bug or meant to be? — Unsigned comment by 84.248.192.31 (talk) at 16:41 on 2 December 2011

Bug: Door that opens with the ebony claw didn't open[edit]

For me the door with the rings and the ebony claw didn't open. I kinda rushed to the stormcloak, got the claw and tried the rings, but they wouldn't move. I tried a couple of times by reloading my save. I found out that I had to wait for Legatte Rikke to tell me to try and open the door before I tried the rings or even pick up the claw. Just a warning for others:) --Ji e toy 19:30, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

Keeping the Jagged Crown[edit]

If begin the Imperial version of the quest AND you left Helgen with Hadvar, it is possible to keep the helm and continue with the Civil War questline.
Simply do this quest as normal until you obtain the Jagged Crown. Reverse-pickpocket it onto Hadvar(The game seems to list a 0% chance to do so, though it is actually still possible), then turn the Crown in. Despite not actually having it in your inventory, you can still "give" it to Tullius/Ulfric and continue the questline - after doing so, go to Riverwood and pickpocket the Crown back from Hadvar.
Apparently works the same with the Stormcloak version of the quest if you left Helgen with Ralof, as well. Both versions may need more testing. — Unsigned comment by Derejin (talkcontribs) at 01:53 on 13 July 2012

Brilliant little post. Can confirm it works (at least on the imperial side) on fully patched PS3. (18th Aug 2012)
Thanks. Have been wanting to keep the crown ever since I saw it.Zaikoji (talk) 13:50, 18 September 2012 (GMT)
you are my favorite person in the world....love love LOVE the jagged crown....you sir, have made me very happy — Unsigned comment by Romandoug (talkcontribs) at 06:48 on 20 December 2012‎
I just did this. A very useful trick, as the crown has the same armor rating as the Daedric Helmet, is not enchanted, and looks very cool. It's unfortunate that I'll have to get Hearthfire before I can duplicate it now though.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 05:03, 18 February 2013 (GMT)

() I cant find Hadvar. i sided with legion and followed Hadvar in the beginning. I cant find him in Riverwood but he's there if i give up the crown to Tullius. Where is he before??? --99.255.205.209 22:37, 1 March 2013 (GMT)

Why is this bug marked as unconfirmed? 4 people have done this and taken a moment to say so here. Is it because newer patches may affect this?--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 21:13, 14 April 2013 (GMT)
It has now been marked as confirmed. --Xyzzy Talk 22:47, 14 April 2013 (GMT)
i've spent about 2 hours trying to do this trick, im only level 5. could this be the issue? i have lvl 15 pickpocket and lvl 22 heavy armor. i've saved the spot so i can come back if i need to simply buff these stats. — Unsigned comment by 86.163.77.192 (talk) at 02:58 on 1 September 2013‎
Are you failing the pickpocketing attempt? If so, then I would say that you need to increase your pickpocketing skill before it will work. --Xyzzy Talk 03:42, 1 September 2013 (GMT)

() If i went with the imperials in the beginning then joined ulfric, how do i keep the crown??? — Unsigned comment by 82.28.48.23 (talk) at 14:52 on 2 October 2013

You'll probably have to find a different NPC to reverse-pickpocket the crown into. I don't remember who's around when you go to Windhelm to give the crown to Ulfric, but try each one of them until you find one that works. --Xyzzy Talk 18:41, 2 October 2013 (GMT)
I would try using the same advice as was given at the start here, but use Ralof instead of Hadvar. If you could try it and report back if it worked for you, that'd be good. --Morrolan (talk) 18:53, 2 October 2013 (GMT)
I reverse pickpocketed the Jagged Crown (Imperial-side Quest) onto Hadvar, then went to Ulfric to complete the quest. I went to the Sleeping Giant Inn to pickpocket the Crown back, but Hadvar isn't there (I've waited a full 24 hours in 1-hour increments). I also went back to Korvanjund and looked around Castle Dour. Where is Hadvar after the Jagged Crown quest? --50.160.211.34 05:06, 3 November 2013 (GMT)
EDIT: I became desparate and tried to locate Hadvar using console commands. Typing player.moveto 0002BFA2 spawned me outside of Korvanjund, but Hadvar wasn't there. I tried using Detect Life, but there was absolutely nothing in the area so I searched every nook and cranny of Korvanjund using Detect Life, but only one (1) Imperial Soldier showed up in the Jagged Crown room. I'm 99% sure I followed Hadvar during the Unbound quest, but just for the heck of it I used the console to try and locate Ralof player.moveto 0002BF9E, but that spawned me inside Helgen Keep where there were only bandits (Ralof wasn't outside the Keep either). I'm so lost with all of this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. --50.160.211.34 09:59, 3 November 2013 (GMT) EDIT:--NibKing (talk) 19:35, 3 November 2013 (GMT)
Do you have an available save to before you tried to do this? It appears he has disappeared. You could alternatively try the prid 2BFA2 then moveto player, which should force him to come to you instead of the other way around. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 10:17, 3 November 2013 (GMT)
Yes (forgot to mention that, too) I did try prid 0002BFA2, then moveto player. Nothing happened and console cmd prompt just sat there blinking at me on the next line /shrug ...Ended up progressing story line to the end of the Civil War (Solitude) and Ralof appeared throughout the questline as he was supposed to. --NibKing (talk) 19:35, 3 November 2013 (GMT)
About not being able to find Hadvar after completing this quest, for the purpose of pickpocketing-back the Jagged Crown you stashed on him earlier:
I spent an entire day hanging out in Riverwood, continually visiting the Sleeping Giant Inn, the Riverwood Trader and Alvor's house, looking to see if he'd spawn in any of those places. No luck. I then checked Whiterun, thinking the game might have pre-placed him there in anticipation of the Battle for Whiterun quest. Still no luck. Went ahead with the Message to Whiterun quest, and on the the way to Windhelm to offer Balgruuf's War Axe to Ulfric, I decided to pop into Korvanjund because that was the last place I'd seen Hadvar.
Sure enough, he was still inside Korvanjund, still making his way towards the exit with Legate Rikke. Got the Jagged Crown back from him. I tried doing the same reverse-pickpocket trick with Balgruuf's War Axe, but it seems the axe's quest status isn't bugged like the crown's, so reverse-pickpocketing isn't possible.
In short, for anybody who can't find Hadvar after completing The Jagged Crown quest, you might find him inside Korvanjund. (Interestingly, the Imperial Soldiers from that quest seemed to have inhabited the ruins. One of them was using the Cooking Pot in the first room, and a couple more were napping on the bedrolls.) comfirmation[edit]

I had the quest bug recently on PC after patch like it said is possible. Basically when I fast traveled near the ruins, a Revered Dragon slaughtered all the troops before Legate Rikke showed up and now she's sitting at the quest marker, and initiates dialogue when I near it, but has no options to advance the quest: Just her standard dialogue. 173.219.77.134 02:25, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Simply ignoring that step bypassed it :s 173.219.77.134 02:26, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

No Ebony Claw[edit]

I just witnessed the following. When at the gate, requiring the Ebony Claw, said claw would be visible in front of the door. Had to come here to actually know that the Claw had to be in front of the door. It did reappear once I started moving the Stormcloak body that is next to the door. — Unsigned comment by 82.124.128.72 (talk) at 12:50 on 22 February 2013 (GMT)

free levels.[edit]

the rolaf/hadvar trick you can do at the start. you can also do on this mission before you hand over the crown.

simply attack them, or pickpocket. and none of the other NPC's will acknowledge this. bring your own NPC and they will just fight each other, while you level your bow/sword. — Unsigned comment by 86.163.77.192 (talk) at 03:00 on 1 September 2013‎

Siding differently than in Helgen[edit]

What if one sided with Ralof in Helgen but fights for the Imperials? Hadvar isn't there, doth this make it impossible to get the crown? In that case, is it better to join the Stormcloaks first and then bring the crown to general Tullius? 212.186.15.63 09:43, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

It is perfectly possible to finish the Imperial side of this quest on a character that sided with Ralof during the prologue. In that case, Hadvar will only show up later down the Imperial questline (I think that he is there when you defend Whiterun from the Stormcloaks, but I'm a bit fuzzy on this detail as it has been a while since I last played Skyrim), so do you miss out on a bit of unique dialogue. Otherwise, the fact that he is missing does not have a significant impact on this quest, which proceeds in precisely the same fashion as it normally does. Hope this answers your question. Aegithalos (talk) 15:31, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Officially one should be able to do so, but who would make the others notice the crown when Hadvar isn't there? Legate Rikke would just order the soldiers to look for the crown, with noone pointing at it. 212.186.15.63 16:26, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
I believe that the Draugr in the throneroom always become hostile once you get close enough to the one that is sitting on the throne and possesses the crown, regardless of whether an NPC notices the crown beforehand. Once the fight is over, you are ordered to retrieve the crown and bring it to Tullius as usual. In any case, I have completed the Imperial side of this quest at least once on a character that sided with Ralof in Helgen (using an unmodded version of the game), so I can confirm that the quest shouldn't be broken if you sided with Ralof in Helgen and went on to join the Imperial Legion in Solitude. Aegithalos (talk) 16:42, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Well, so far I didn't have the experience that the draugr with the crown awakens when one gets too close, and the legionnaires just keep looking for the crown forever if thou don't use the console (as far as I remember). Eventually thou hast to use the console again since thou still don't have the crown. And I'm really disgusted to join the Stormcloaks, even just for that one quest. 212.186.15.63 16:52, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
In that case, I think that either your game bugged out, preventing you from continuing this quest in the normal fashion, or mine did, preventing me from encountering this problem. I just checked the bugs-section of the article, and it is stated there that sometimes, killing the Draugr that is wearing the crown before Legate Rikke gets a chance to say anything can break the quest. Your problem seems to be a bit different, however, as the Draugr did not grow hostile to begin with in your case, which I am certain they did in mine. Just to be safe, I shall add have added this particular problem to the bugs-section, so that others who wish to join the Legion but prefer to accompany Ralof in Helgen are aware of this possible issue. And I agree, the Stormcloaks are an appalling lot as far as I am concerned. Aegithalos (talk) 18:16, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
I've sided Ralof in Helgen only to personally punish that captain who ordered to execute me despite not being on the list (thou can't do this if thou side Hadvar). However, it currently isn't urgent that I join any of the civil war sides. But I think that for the quest "Season unending" I need to join one, otherwise Tullius and Ulfric would keep asking me if I am the one from Helgen coming to join them. 212.186.15.63 05:47, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Alright, so I sided with the Stormcloaks entering Korvanjund, and no matter how close I came to the Draugr with the crown, he wouldn't be awakened. Fortunately, Ralof noticed the crown too so that the crown could be retrieved. Actually at first there came Draugr from the coffins on each side of the crown draugr, but I think they would also have been awakened if they could when coming that close. So I think when siding with Ralof in Helgen, one has to join the Stormcloaks for the jagged crown quest (and when siding with Hadvar, the Imperial army), otherwise thou art stuck in it. 212.186.15.63 09:46, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
