Stamina Regenerates Constantly[edit]

This is my first time doing anything on a wiki :D. Just wanted to mention that unlike magicka, stamina regenerates CONSTANTLY. You can see this in two ways.

First (and most obvious), if you use a power attack and it doesn't empty your bar, it regenerates immediately.

Secondly, you can use a power attack when your stamina is almost 0, and it will still work, and it will still regenerate immediately, but you won't see it because your stamina is now (I think) set to a negative value equal to the difference in the stamina you had and the cost of the power attack. You notice the regeneration once it reaches zero again. This can also be seen by timing how long it takes for the bar to start filling up again if you do power attacks at various levels of (low) stamina. It will take longer until it regenerates again the closer your stamina bar was to 0 when you use the power attack. 15:14, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

- this is blatantly untrue. Stamina restore effects such as 1 point of Absorb Stamina will allow constant use of power attacks. Vegetable soup allows for unlimited shield bashes and power attacks. This suggests that the minimum stamina value is zero. The character instead has moments of stunted stamina recovery just like with casting spells.

I posted the original comment (from a different computer). It is not blatantly untrue. I made a standing power attack that just barely depleted my stamina gauge, and it began to regenerating rapidly (about a half second delay). I then performed the same power attack immediately after it had begun regenerating, and it took over five seconds for it to begun regenerating (and allow me to power attack again), a clear difference. Its obvious in some way the code allows it to go to an invisible negative value, and apparently any stamina restoring effect ignores this and provides an immediate benefit above zero. For future posters, don't be so aggressive. I simply posted my results. I'm going to edit the page with these details, feel free to make it better. 16:10, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Although stamina doesn't go negative, I second the above user's observation that the delay on natural stamina regen that occurs whenever stamina is depleted behaves somewhat as if stamina goes negative in the case of shield bashes and power attacks. Testing on the PC, I confirmed that the delay varies between 0.5 and 5 seconds (approximately), depending on the magnitude of the "stamina debt" incurred by the shield bash/power attack and the sum of all bonuses/penalties to stamina regeneration. 19:51, 14 October 2013 (GMT)

Stamina buffs don't add to carry weight[edit]

Just noticed, I've got 225 stamina (180 base, 25 Blessing of Kynareth, 20 enchanted ring), but only 440 carry weight (300 base, 100 PickPocketing Perk, only 40 from Stamina)

Your base 180 is 8 increases to stamina when leveling up. Each of those adds 5 to your carry weight, which is where your 40 comes from. No other stamina buffs add to it, though you can make potions or enchant footwear the increase your carry weight. --QuillanTalk 22:22, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Stamina Regeneration[edit]

Does anybody know the metric for stamina regeneration? Is the amount of stamina regenerated per second calculated as a percentage of total stamina, or as a static amount?

So, as an implication, would increasing your total stamina purely by enchanting armor also increase the amount of stamina regenerated per second?

Further, I hear stamina regenerates at different rates based upon how low you are -- we should include information on that as well if anybody knows the details!

   -Stamina regenerates by 5% every second.

Carry Weight[edit]

Nit sure if this is the right place, but can anyone answer why my combat based Redguard has an initial carry weight of 100, and my magic stealth based Breton can has a carry weight of 200?

Your initial carry weight should be 300 for any charakter. It is not dependend on any choice during character creation. --Killfetzer 16:08, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Stamina and Stagger[edit]

Is the likely hood of being staggered dependant on the level of staqmina as in earlier elderscrolls games?

I thought it was the Agility attribute that determined that before? And that isn't even in Skyrim. Either way no, it doesn't. There are certain perks that reduce stagger though.-- 01:38, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Effects of Stamina[edit]

Does the amount of Stamina you have left affect how much damage you do or how high you can jump, like it did in Oblivion?

100% Depletion[edit]

I added the following note, but it has been undone: "When your Stamina reaches zero there is a pause before it starts to regenerate. To avoid this pause, you can halt Stamina consumption before it becomes depleted; this way it will start to regenerate much sooner." When your Stamina runs out completely, there is a 2 or 3 second pause before it starts to regenerate. This is indicated by the Stamina bar flashing green. This delay is much longer than the half-second delay you see when your Stamina is still, say, half full. --Sebastien 02:49, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Negative Stamina?[edit]

Does anybody know what happens if you take a poison that keeps your stamina below zero for a period of time? In previous games it made you collapse similarly to paralyze, but I have not found a strong enough poison to test it in Skyrim yet. Robofreak 19:18, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Stamina cannot go negative in Skyrim; It simply bottoms out at zero and cannot be used to perform any actions that require stamina. Even with a lingering damage stamina poison of strong enough magnitude, it will only remain at zero until the poison's duration expires. That being said, no, you cannot collapse as you did in previous TES games. (personally, I find that to be quite an improvement, as it was really, stupidly overpowered in every way.) 16:05, 26 January 2012 (UTC)


The table says that Sprinting uses 7 Stamina per second. It also says that it consumes '+2% per weight'. Is this applied per unit of weight? For example, if I'm wearing armor totaling 50 units of weight, do I consume 14 Stamina per second while Sprinting (2% per unit times 50 units is 100%. Increasing Stamina consumption by 100% doubles the rate of consumption)? Also, does the rate of Stamina Consumption change if I have Conditioning, Unhindered, or the Steed Stone? NPC Stamina[edit]

NPC's in questlines like "Glory of the Dead" running to places like Ysgramor's Tomb never seem to be depleted of stamina. Given they have a 100 bonus stamina it's difficult to verify they actually do run out unless the Player is granted infinite stamina.--Lmstearn (talk) 13:49, 4 March 2014 (GMT)
