Umbra

Easter Egg: I have found a NPC by name of Old Orc just outside of Windhelm, he wishes to have a good death. This is likely Bethesda's ode to Umbra since when we first meet Umbra he asks the player for an honorable death. (P Nija)

(Left earlier post in hopes that sword still exists) Has anyone stumbled across this beastly sword yet.. Any info would be appreciated.

I would love it if umbra was back that was my favourite sword i hope someone finds it :)
For anyone still wondering the same thing: Check the lore Article on Umbra. It was destroyed, however that does not mean you can not enchant a sword (Ebony perhaps) with a Soul Trap enchant and pretend like it is Umbra. Also, wait for the Creation Kit to come out I can guarantee someone will make a mod for it. — Unsigned comment by 72.78.15.99 (talk) at 08:50 on 24 December 2011

Found Umbra!!!??? Not ebony black orcish sword

Do they delete? Dropped items, shot arrows, bodies

I'm just curious because I shot like literally hundreds of arrows all over the place, because these damn trolls and dragons and other creatures were way to fast and dodged them like masters - will the shot Arrows (stuck in the ground) disappear eventually, like in Oblivion? I see a lot of my (and enemies') shot arrows stick into the ground bottoms up, after the cell gets revisited/savegame loaded, but none ever disappeared (1 ingame week). So with the heaps of dead bodies. I've read contradicting infos, some say 'nope, stays forever' some say 3 ingame months, 1 month, 3 weeks, give me a break? The developers MUST have thought of something to 'clear' the 'cache' and remove unused objects. Or will the game eventually crah because it is overloaded with unused stuff? Somebody HAS to know this! Best would be a Dev answering, since I doubt they didn't think of that, and there has to be code included to clear items and dead bodies out, but really wanna know whats going on.

I think only some bodies disappear,(non-quest related) and as far as I can tell, all arrows fade away, although I did shoot a summoned arrow into the ground in front of the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary and it's still there, about 5 real-time days later..... EzioTheAssassin 05:02, 24 November 2011 (UTC)EzioTheAssassin

Bodies eventually fade away(although it takes some time) and items always stay(including arrows).--68.109.194.141 12:14, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
some npcs will pic up items, or follow you to give them back Qwertyone 00:23, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

My character took a couple of arrows to the shoulder, and an in-game week later they are still there. Nov 29 11 TwnTrboS4

They will go away next time you get shot (same with ice). I used to be a developer until I took an arrow to the knee. Dragonalumni 13:07, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Clean-up, anybody?

The talk page is full of old references and questions prior to the release date of November 11, so it's all pretty much irrelevant crap. This should be reset. — Unsigned comment by 187.67.227.156 (talk)

I tried, but apparently you're not supposed to remove things from the talk page even if it's outdated. Heh, whoops! ^^; I think I'll just stick to browsing the site from now on. — Unsigned comment by 24.28.79.9 (talk) on 15 December 2011
You're allowed to archive, though, which I've just done for November. Robin Hoodtalk 18:02, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
I'm Joaquin
This has been thought of and solved, for sure!!!

I don't know the 'time-line,' but I can give you an odd example. ie, I was exploring the map when a dragon thought he had just strolled into a hometown buffet. Basically, he tried to devour the whole town and I gave him a shocking response. (I was refering to lightning; if you're 12, or challenged) Suffice to say Chain Lightning is indescriminate, which is an annoying fact, and I pulled quite a bounty from my drunken rampage. (why does a spellcaster need stamina?) After the a$$-kicking, a school of guards forgot who just saved them from the mouths of a vicious beast and decided that my overwhelming DPS was enough for them to take on. I opt'd to pay off my fine instead (Yes I could have simply sent them to the underworld with there soul in the palm of my hand hand), and before I could absorb the dragon soul I was carted off to the nearest keep. Later, when I returned there was no dragon corpse anywhere. But, when I came to the spot where I last remember seeing the body I was flooded with soul-like particle enveloping my very existance on the planes of oblivion, *cough, apologies... Skyrim -It was maybe about 2weeks (in-game) before I retured. Just a word of advice. Let the game take care of the Cache and dropped items. Unless you've lost at least a dozen characters to failed loads, you probably don't wanna mess with it that much. If it ain't broke...

Essential Characters

Under the summary for NPCs, should it be listed whether or not they are essential? Masquerain 01:23, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Probably, I believe it does for the other games (Oblivion at least). - Count Marius Caro, not signed in. 82.7.83.64 15:53, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Skyrim for Oblivion players

Should their be a skyrim for oblivion page? There is an oblivion for morrowind players page. I know they talk about if on the about skyrim page, but should it be easier to access here? signing the above.--Br3admax 07:01, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

It seems like that would be a good page to have, although it also seems like the majority of the articles written are made from the perspective of Oblivion players. Almost every skill page explains why/how it is different from oblivion and how that effects gameplay. Might be worth making notes of all the differences in leveling skills differences, such as in skyrim simply casting weak spells will not level up skills unless they are being used in combat ex: detect life has to detect something to level up, healing has to heal damaged health--Lord.Baal 22:58, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
I think eventually the references to Oblivion in the articles should be removed then a Skyrim for Oblivion Players section should be made Wolfchaldo 06:37, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
One needs to be made but not eventually. Right now, most of the people playing Skyrim, and most of the people on this site are oblivion players so it's kind of redundant. Once more newcomers to the series find this site it'll be more important. — Unsigned comment by 173.57.8.120 (talk) at 18:23 on 22 December 2011
To get one made it will need to be sandboxed in a users personal userspace. (Eddie The Head 10:27, 5 January 2012 (UTC))
Oblivion for Skyrim players would be more immediately useful. Off the Rails 13:18, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Skyrim Game Setting Information - Cannot find it at all!!!!!!

As we all know Skyrim takes place 200 years after the events of Oblivion.

I think it would be absolutely fascinating if we created a page dedicated to piecing together the history of what has happened in this time and what is currently happening. There are lots of small hints about major events happening, and after searching the internet out of curiosity I cannot find anything.

Things that I know have happened that can be included:

  • New emperor
  • Bravil riots / sacking of night mothers tomb
  • Banning of Talos
  • Mages Guild collapsed
  • Dark Brotherhood was (apparently) stomped from Cyrodill completely
  • Azura's star (and other Daedric artifacts) obviously faded back into Oblivion to end up in Skyrim somehow
  • Death of the Player in Oblivion; the champion/listener/grey fox/archmage... What do we know happened to him?? Other than there has been no listener since.

There are many pages, including a forth era timeline for these, all events have been explained.--Br3admax 03:53, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

Actually, the champion of Cyrodil is now Sheogorath who you meet in Skyrim

Dead NPCs (respawning?)

just wondering if dead things that "despawn" or "fade away" ever "respawn" cause there are a couple of places i wouldn't mind revisiting to "re kill" the NPC that used to be there. for example the altar thingy near sightless pit that has the skeleton with the book that never goes away (if you know what i mean) and well mine kinda sunk into the ground as things do in skyrim :/ so id like him to respawn ( i know he sunk cause i checked on him and half his ribcage was above ground and he was sorta spassing out, i filled up on books came back and he was gone) — Unsigned comment by 124.189.147.61 (talk) at 10:49 on December 11, 2011

Yes they do! I killed Farkas and Vilkas with my Ebony Blade so it would become stronger. After playing the game for about a week, I noticed Vilkas and Farkas were back at Companion HQ...alive and well...

random unique/leveled/unusual items

has anyone found any completely random things that aren't related to a quest and seem to be in a completly random location (for exemple the notched pickaxe, not something like chillrend) (not in a dungeon or palace, maybe behind a palace... soemthing like fingleam from oblivion which was just lying in the water)

Search on this website "No stone unturned" There are tons of items that I think their main purpose is to take up weight in your inventory, stuff that cant be used at astonach forge or alchemy. They're around but not worth looking for I think.— Unsigned comment by Clearupright (talkcontribs) at 21:26 on 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Uh..Wierd Ghost Running Around the outside of whiterun and jumping over the city at night!?

im not sure if im even in the right section new acount and stuff but the main thing i was running around the outside of whiterun as a werewolf and out of nowhere this ghost like npc is running around the city and jummping over the city it struck me as odd because the gaurds acted like it wasn there and i havnt seen anything like this in any previous games but if i could have help finding out what it is i would be happy i dont know if this is in the right section or anything but help!? — Unsigned comment by Skyrimwhat01 (talkcontribs) at 00:36 on December 13, 2011

its just an event that happens at night a lot, it's the headless horseman. If you follow him into the city the citizens attack him. This is merely an easter egg, but a pretty nice one if you ask me. - R3ignlasting
He's supposed to lead you to Hamvir's Rest, to the left of the graveyard is a random leveled enchanted helmet and a basic sword, which after a few days respawns, they said the songs they sing in the taverns "ragnar the red" is about the headless horseman.— Unsigned comment by Clearupright (talkcontribs) at 21:29 on 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Skyrim For Oblivion Players

The Oblivion and Morrowind pages have guides for players who've played the other games to adapt. Will there be ones for Oblivion and Skyrim, so "Oblivion for Skyrim Players" and vice versa. --Howling Snail 10:13, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Skyrim DLC

Skyrim came out 11/11/11 it has been 46 days since the initial release. A month can be up to 31 days, and yet XBOX is still holding out on us! When will Skyrim DLC come to PC/PS3? I know they have dlc planned99.169.161.243

It wont be out for months.HisK 13:28, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

considering the fact the regular game is still riddled with bugs/gliches/problems i wouldnt expect a dlc until that is taken care of and long after ck is out
the DLC isnt out for Xbox yet.

Local Map Images

I'm a freshly new editor, but I still want to contribute as much as possible. One of the things I've noticed is that there seems to be a lack of local maps for the places of the Skyrim section. I'm no expert in wiki editing, so I don't actually know how it works.

How does one create a local map for places like the interior of dungeons, or the local space on the exterior of dungeons... sort of like the maps for places in the Oblivion section?

If it's possible to do solo, I'd like to maybe try creating these maps and submitting them to the varying Skyrim places! I'm a huge dungeon-diver / exploration fanatic, so I would have no problem doing this if it's a feasible ambition for a single person. --Zmedaris 09:02, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

I agree that this would be a welcome refernce. But like most of the images here on UESP they are user added. If you have some knowledge (and a quick computer) you can take some screen shots of local maps (hit 'M' then 'L' on PC), re-arrange or combine them in The GIMP or some other picture/photo editing software (which will remain nameless for my purposes cause they get enough money being the first one people think of when you say photo editing) adding letters, numbers and notes much like the local maps for Oblivion. Take some time to study the Oblivion maps as well especially the more convoluted ones, to get yourself more aware of what's needed, and what's not needed. Also, high resolution screenshots are a must (which is why my slow computer can't do it). --Metricjester 20:57, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
I would love to do this! The only thing is, there needs to be a map legend decided upon before I think of doing such things. I can't find one anywhere, so I'm not sure how I would be expected to do the dots and lines and other such things to indicate what is what and in which places. I might ask, "Is it the same as Oblivion?" But there are a radical number of different things in Skyrim, so I'm not so sure... --Zmedaris 11:19, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
You could start by just taking pictures of the maps and making notes to yourself, that way once a legend is decided upon you would be a step ahead with the work. I think that having a legend similar to Oblivion would be a good idea, that way older players wont be jumping around between two things and it would be easier to do. Masquerain 02:18, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
I'll get right on that! Especially for the ones that I've done heavy editing to. --Zmedaris 06:18, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
There is an example of a local map with legend at Skyrim:Riften. The Legend was added to the image with a template, that makes it easier to change things later on. --Alfwyn 18:37, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Dynamic Snow

manipulation

--Emzi43 18:13, 31 December 2011 (UTC) can you move objects and bodies like you could in oblivion

Yes but it depends on your format as to how you do it. If you're on Xbox like me you hover the x-hairs over whatever you want to move and push and hold A until the item's name disappears and then you can move/drag/manipulate it. You push A again when you want to drop it. I'd assume whichever PS3 button is used to activate or take works the same, not sure about the PC version. Again perhaps holding down the activate key again.

Confirmation? The Source 22:58, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

It works.(ps3).Br3admax 02:35, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Meh, I don't really think a texture res upgrade counts as DLC. That and I swear my 360 Skyrim also got a texture upgrade, the screen res is higher than pre-1.4 and particle density is thicker... --Mikeytalkemail 10:20, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Strange Symbols

I've found a few strange symbols near some doors, the only one that I can think of at the moment is the front door to addvar's house, but I think I remember seeing one outside the ratway. Do Not Delete box

I don't know where to ask about this. I walked into the alchemy shop in Whiterun with the Merchant talent and noticed the saleswoman has an item in her inventory called "Do Not Delete". It's icon is a chest-style box, like you'd ordinarily open in someone's house. I've noticed that sometimes inventories shuffle at certain times of the day, so I noted that it's 8:12 PM on Middas, 16th of Heartfire. On the 360 version if that matters. 173.53.44.18 01:03, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
