Found a bug, so I sold all my armor early on, didnt realize it was going to be useful since I use heavy armor. now I dont have a fence because she is stuck asking which piece of armor I want to upgrade and I have none and no way to get it back, the merchant I sold it too doesnt have it anymore--Lord.Baal 23:50, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Exuse me, this is not a bug. Blashyrkh 21:58, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

He has a chance of disappearing after he gets down to the docks. This is caused by him "wall jumping" at the door and effectively falling through the world. So far, for the 360 version, the only viable fix is to save before the two of you leave the tavern, starting the "Shadow Gulum-Ei" objective and praying.

If you have the PC version, you can fix him by using the console command !!!REMOVED!!! while you are in either the warehouse or the grotto afterwards.

I removed the above console command, because this might spawn an extra Gulum-Ei and i think it is needless to say that this can and most likely will cause trouble, the proper console command to use if you lost him is player.moveto 00013284.Blashyrkh 22:17, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

-I actually just got the bug, and found that you can fix this easily by targeting him (prid 000198B7) and then using the "moveto player" command just outside the winking skeever. I've added it to the main page

He also has a chance to disappear from the warehouse. I do not know how he does this, as he has already disappeared by the time I enter the warehouse. I managed to find the cave through sheer luck... only to get a quest update saying to confront him, and he is still glitched somewhere in the warehouse cell, a large distance through the wall (according to my compass). Also, on my world map, he is shown to be inside Solitude Cliff (the one next to the horse and wagon) he is not in the glitch areas beneath the city either. (Xbox 360)

Its possible to ask the Argonian for the documentation for the goldenglow estate sale. Is there any point to this? Because all that Mercer cares about is the name of his opponent, and it doesn't affect anything at Goldenglow.

re: you can talk with Maven and she will tell you that she will make a "significant contribution" to the theives guild for it

Shipping Map[edit]

Are there more than one map? Because I've got no journal entry after picking up the map and delvin shows no interest in buying it. Or is this bonus only availible during the quest? Because the other items can be stolen at any time. --Killfetzer 19:53, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

I was able to steal the map after completing the quest. -- 05:43, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Yes, there is a known bug with this particular part of The Litany of Larceny quest, follow the link for clarification.Blashyrkh 22:05, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Killing him[edit]

It says he is essential. Is he essential to a certain point or does he remain essential? Lucien LachanceDB 03:51, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Edit: I killed him, but I don't know where to go now. It is still pointing me to the East Imperial thing. Any help? Lucien LachanceDB 05:34, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

I have no quest markers for this quest. i've talked to Gulum-Ei, used the Persuade option, got the 'tail him' objective, but he just stays in the Skeever. I've waited for a month in-game and he just keeps wandering around drinking. 00:57, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Yeah that'd be a bug. Never had it myself but not the first time I've heard of it. Lord EydvarTalk 02:20, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Two Sets of Thieves Guild Armor[edit]

Its possible but tricky to exchange one piece of armor and immediately cut off Tonilla's dialogue and place your old piece of armor in a container and prevent her from taking it so she still gives you a new piece of armor. --Dlsmith08 22:35, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Pointless Detail[edit]

The large amount of sneaking advice and apparent rules for following him are, quite simply, rubbish. I followed him along, walking without sneaking once, and even talked to him several times. He knew i was there. But he still went about his entire routine as normal. even when iwas like, six feet behind him at most. So basically, that entire section of this article, is useless. He wont alter his behavior. 21:30, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

You are right he goes to brinewater even if you bump into him after killing the last guard at aplace he can see the corpse. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 19:47 on 17 July 2012‎
I had the same exact experience. He just didn't care what I did. Amusingly at one point I killed a mercenary close to him and he came up to me and chastised me to "be careful", then continued on his path. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 14:47 on 3 January 2013

Brinewater Grotto Spiders and Dog[edit]

Seems there is short alternative routes through a spider area and "dog cave", possibly to avoid the bandits altogether? Maybe a early stage of development where inhabitants of cave were also east empire company members? — Unsigned comment by Ible (talkcontribs) at 15:49 on 20 November 2012

More likely these are just for easily sneaking past the guards in the area. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:46, 11 December 2012 (GMT)

He's not moving![edit]

I'm inside the East Empire Company warehouse, tailing Gulum-Ei, but he isn't moving. He gets to the first set of crates and stops, looking around.

I've done the main quest up until The Fallen, and have spoken to Ulfric Stormcloak but have not joined. I haven't been inside Castle Dour yet. Dark Brotherhood up to returning the contracts for Lurbuk and Hern to Nazir, completed the College of Winterhold, haven;t started the Bard's College, Companions up to Blood's Honor, and that's about it. I've tried reloading, shooting him, running into him and the scaly bugger won;t move an inch.

I don't wanna kill him and forfeit the payment, seeing as I'm playing an Orc (who famously suck at anything other than smashing people's heads in) I need every Septim I can get.

Who's got the fix?

Cheers, Snowy. 23:25, 10 February 2013 (GMT)

Hello, I've personally gotten this bug twice as well, so I feel your pain. :/ That said, there are two ways to circumvent this bug, both not particularly vexing. One, load up an older save before initiating this quest again. Or, if you are on PC, fire up the console. Simply sneak past the unmoving Gulum-Ei into the cave and complete the dungeon. When you get to the end (right before the cave with the horkers), use the console and type 'prid 198b7' without the apostrophes, hit enter, then type 'moveto player' without the apostrophes, and enter. Gulum-Ei should now be right beside you, and will initiate dialogue to finish the quest. Hope this helps. :)-Deltahost (talk) 00:12, 1 March 2013 (GMT)

Another Firebrand Wine case?[edit]

Hey guys, I found another case of Firebrand Wine in the Temple of the Divines next to the bed to the left of the locked door. Can we use this case for the quest in lieu of the normal one in the Blue Palace? I found this on my brand new Khajiit guy who just finished Before the Storm. I use 360 if that helps. 06:59, 29 December 2013 (GMT)
