Hostility[edit]

I attempted to approach Ria with my Amulet of Mara on but she attacked me. I made several approaches, amulet on and off, after reloading but the result was the same. The rest of the Companions were content to watch the fight. I gave up, only to return and pick up Aela as a follower and Ria attacked us both. Aela killed her. Not sure if the fact that my current character (an Imperial) siding with Ulfric was a possible reason. --Magskall (talk) 03:46, 2 September 2013 (GMT) Magskall

The Companions are neutral in the Civil War, so the faction you sided with doesn't matter. There is a common bug with Whiterun NPCs where they attack you for no good reason, though usually it's not just one. Try this before you enter the area she's in: unequip your weapons and punch one of the Whiterun guards, then lower your fists and surrender. Pay off your bounty, then try approaching her. If this doesn't work, there's some console commands you can try if you play on PC. --Xyzzy Talk 04:05, 2 September 2013 (GMT)
My only bounty is in Raven Rock. I did try to draw my weapons and then resheath them, but to no avail. I also logged out and then back in and still encountered this issue. Just hoping she re spawns the way Skjor has. I am also playing on Xbox 360.--Magskall (talk) 08:41, 2 September 2013 (GMT)
The bug I'm talking about doesn't seem to be bounty-related. I've experienced hostile NPCs in Whiterun many times, even though I've not had any bounty anywhere at the time. The method I described is the only way I've found to stop it, unless you're on PC, then there is a console command that may work if you use it on her before she attacks. Simply sheathing your weapon while she is attacking doesn't work. --Xyzzy Talk 13:41, 2 September 2013 (GMT)
To update she has respawned four in game days later and is not hostile this time. Married someone else, though.--Magskall (talk) 23:10, 5 September 2013 (GMT)
