Hearthfire - Replacement Upon Death?

Can you get a replacement Steward if your current one dies ? — Unsigned comment by 98.157.24.218 (talk) at 13:20 on 13 September 2012‎

In my case yes, I was able to do it. (Details: I came home to find my steward, Sven, dead outside. Later on I returned with other follower [Ingjard] and she offered herself for the post; I accepted and everything's in order now.) Inescf (talk) 17:02, 17 September 2012 (GMT)
Does this work on the x-box?--Mixer989 (talk) 16:04, 5 May 2014 (GMT)
As far as I know it should not have been possible, so I guess the experience by Inescf was a glitch of some type? —MortenOSlash (talk) 20:34, 5 May 2014 (GMT)

Hearthfire - Steward Appointment

I discovered recently that despite building a small house on the land purchased in the Pale along with a garden, stable and animal pen, I am unable to hire a stewward for my house. The housecarl for the Pale, Gregor, whom I was going to choose, does not even have the option to be offered the post. However Rayya, the housecarl for Falkreath does have this option. The noticeable difference is that my home in Falkreath has the max number of possible additions on the house. Is the reason Gregor does not have the dialogue option because he does not have a bed in my home in the Pale and a steward would require one or is this a glitch on his character? Thelisaraptor (talk) 21:21, 29 September 2012 (GMT)

Looking at the game data, the quest BYOHHouseStewardOffer checks, whether the variable numRoomsCompleted for the house is greater than 1 . The main hall and any extension wing count, but not the initial small house. --Alfwyn (talk) 16:21, 7 November 2012 (GMT)
A similar bug just happened with me yesterday with that same housecarl several in-game days after building the main hall and library. Long story short, he was unable to move past the small slope just out back. How I'd fixed it was to ask him to follow me and fast travel to Heljarchen even though I was already there, thus the option to make him a steward returned. Soulrider (talk) 19:01, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
Gregor can be a bit buggy, and I have noticed in the past that sometimes followers refuse to be made stewards unless they're actually following you (although the local housecarl is supposed to have the steward dialogue available while patrolling, it doesn't seem to always work). --Morrolan (talk) 17:37, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

Fixing the "Not enough money" glitch

Anyone have any idea how to do this? I'm sitting on 500 thousand right now and have purchased everything except the furnishings for my main hall, which my steward steadfastly proclaims I haven't got enough money to buy. This is really annoying. 63.155.50.58 11:08, 4 October 2012 (GMT)

I had a similar glitch, however mine was an option I'd already selected. I brought the entryway to see if it was different, went in looked and came out, the option had reappeared but I was being told I lacked the money. 93.97.59.190 03:39, 6 October 2012 (GMT)
About the glitch with the entry way; in fact, the steward is buying/making furniture for the room. The glitch is that the dialog is till here, it shouldn't be available since everything have been purchased. I guess the steward is just giving a defaut answer seeing the choice can't be validated. Maybe it s the same thing for the main hall, but it never happened to me with this room. 109.22.94.188 09:30, 8 October 2013 (GMT)

Getting rid of a steward?

I understand murder is possible, but what if I didn't want to/can't go that route? Like...if I wanted to do it by console? How would I go about doing that? Unless I'm completely messing up the syntax, my attempts at removefac for faction "BYOHHouseStewardFaction" are failing for Brelyna Maryon, who I now want to use for adventuring than keeping at home. One of my mods seems to have set her as essential, so murdering isn't gonna work. I haven't tried using the console when she's not actively following, though that shouldn't matter. Any advice would be great, thanks. --75.41.67.121 06:06, 28 October 2012 (GMT)

In my experience, even after hiring a follower as a steward, you can still have them as a follower. All you have to do to switch them from steward mode back to follower mode is ask them to follow you through dialogue as normal (I believe the dialogue is at the bottom of the choices, after all the steward choices). Then, when you don't want them to actively follow you, you dismiss them, and they'll tell you they're going back to the home where they're a steward and resume their duties as such. There isn't a need for console use to remove them as a steward, at least not if the only reason is because you want to "use them for adventuring instead of keeping at home". — ABCface 07:00, 28 October 2012 (GMT)
I kinda figured that was my only option, since finding the RefID for the faction has turned up nothing. I guess it won't be so bad after all. --75.41.67.121 15:44, 28 October 2012 (GMT)
But what if you want a new steward? Say you appoint a follower as steward, but want to change your mind later? Can you just /kill them and appoint a new steward, then /resurrect the follower? 184.90.165.164 06:44, 4 November 2012 (GMT)
Reply to steward replacement: resurrect might be useless, for your dead steward would be spawn at the X-shaped room, never able to come back to Skyrim. Using recycleactor on him can make him back to normal life so that a new steward can be appointed. Check my reply to "Moving Stewards" below. --Stasindigo (talk) 15:44, 22 December 2012 (GMT)

Moved from article

  • "Personal stewards may take your money to buy stuff and furniture and buying nothing at all."

I've moved the above bug note from the article because it's very likely not a bug at all. When stewards decorate the home for you, they do so very slowly, sometimes adding only one item at a time. In my experience with having a steward decorate the main hall, it took a couple weeks in-game for all the furnishing options to appear. I'm guessing the person who added this bug simply didn't wait long enough. — ABCface 15:15, 31 October 2012 (GMT)

I agree with this. Even when the player adds furnishings to the house, it sometimes doesn't show up for several minutes. It seems only logical that it would take an in-game NPC longer. Thelisaraptor (talk) 16:19, 3 November 2012 (GMT)
Well, my experience is different here, and it seems to quite obviously be some bugs stopping progress.
I bought all three houses, appointed all a steward and told em all to get busy decorating everything. The only home to have any decoration after I had run through Dawnguard, probably a few months of gametime, is the last one I bought/asked steward to decorate. And that house is fully upgraded.
The other two houses are devoid of _any_ decoration at all, i.e completely empty. The stewards are still around. All decoration options are exhausted so I can't ask them again. (Except for the one option Entry Hall which remains for every single steward, and can't be bought again. Works the first time, after that they reply "you can't afford that". But this is a known bug I think) — Unsigned comment by 80.202.214.185 (talk) at 19:54 on 20 November 2012‎
If that's the case for you, it could be appropriate to note the bug on the article with some short details about the conditions of your bug. This is much more specific than the bug which was removed, so these other variables may make the difference. For instance, the problem might be telling them all to do the same thing in a row. If you reload a save from before telling them all to decorate your homes and try telling them each one at a time (waiting for the upgrades to take effect in one home before asking the next steward to decorate the next home) something like that may work. It would take some testing to see, but the details are important for things like this. The original bug note was too vague to tell what may have caused the issue. — ABCface 21:07, 20 November 2012 (GMT)
Honestly I'm not sure what caused it and I'm not much for editing wikis, just sharing what I've experienced myself here, do with it what you will. After some testing I managed to get one of them to start adding decorations again for a while by killing him and doing a console resurrect, then appointing him steward again. Didn't bring back the options but he was suddenly adding new stuff. Tried it again with the last one with no effect, that might be caused by two stewards again decorating at the same time if that's the issue here. What i can say for sure though is that there is something buggy about this. Another thing I was thinking about trying is making the steward your follower for a while, then dismissing him/her to see if that resets it the same way. — Unsigned comment by 80.202.214.185 (talk) at 14:27 on 22 November 2012‎
I think I know what your problem is. Try this:
Fast travel to one of your houses. Go inside. Go back outside the house. Fast travel to any other place other than your house, like Whiterun, Solitude etc. Then fast travel to another one of your houses (NOT the first one). Go inside. You should find that your second house furnishings should now be updated.
Your problem happened to me as well. When you fast travel from one house to another house (Hearthfire houses only), the second house furnishings will not update. It is a bug but it is avoidable. The only furnishings that you won't get from steward are the ones for cellar. You have to furnish the cellar on your own. — Unsigned comment by 175.142.215.22 (talk) at 07:00 on 6 December 2012‎
I've had this problem as well, it's not related to asking the second steward (since I've not done that). I built a house with all the extensions, hired a Steward & then asked then to decorate it all. Since the Entry way option didn't disappear from the menu, I did ask him to do that twice (Getting the "not enough money" response the second time). Went off to do other stuff for several in game days. Returned & zero furnishings have appeared. I hadn't asked any other stewards to furnish stuff. However, the fast travelling fix mentioned above works a treat, ta! 93.96.70.224 22:08, 5 March 2013 (GMT)

Moving Stewards

So I hired Lydia as the steward at Lakeview Manor.. that was all good and fine.. When I built Heljarchen Hall I moved her there thinking it would be easy to move her back.. turns out I was wrong. Can any one help? 71.167.25.17 04:29, 6 December 2012 (GMT)

P.S. I just made an account after posting this Dbonder (talk) 04:32, 6 December 2012 (GMT)

Just want your Lydia back to Lakeview Manor? You can kill her by any mean then use the code "recycleactor" on her through console. Should her return to her normal life, you can just ask her to be your steward of Lakeview Manor.
Take my experience as example. Once Lob was the steward of both Lakeview Manor and Harjarchen Hall. When I asked him for a cow, the cow spawned at Lakeview Manor, not Harjarchen Hall. Then I used the "kill" made him dead, then I leave the house, received a letter of heritage, and my housecarl was able to take the place of steward that Lob once occupied. Then I used "resurrect" on Lob, sadly discoverd he would just stand in the cross shaped "graveyard". I used "recycleactor" on him afterwards, sending him back to his stronghold and continue on normal life. The problem is solved. The letter of heritage was "MarkForDelete" as if he was never dead.--Stasindigo (talk) 15:37, 22 December 2012 (GMT)

Make steward housecarl again

Discussion moved from Skyrim talk:Steward#Make steward housecarl again

I have a steward at a house i dont really use. is there any way to get her to become a housecarl agen? — Unsigned comment by Revencher (talkcontribs) at 10:29 on 7 January 2013‎

Yes and no. Your steward is still a housecarl and will follow you in the same way a housecarl does. However once hired, you can't fire her as a steward; she's a steward forever. This also applies to all followers that become stewards; they retain all their previous abilities, except that where they sleep changes to the houses they're stewards of and they have the steward dialogue added when they're not following you. --Morrolan (talk) 22:12, 19 February 2013 (GMT)

Very Bugged

i am on ps3 and i've studying about hearthfire so as soon as i can, i'll make the rigth choices about marriage, adoption and stewards, but right now it seems that the best choice is to avoid having a steward at all, am i right? i dont wanna take chances on losing a follower. i am very attached to them, all of them. this missing stewards is frequent? should i avoid ahving one? tks189.100.39.146 03:13, 29 January 2013 (GMT)

I don't think you should be that worried. Your stewards are supposed to patrol the area around your home, and when Hearthfire was still new, a lot of people didn't realize that the stewards weren't always as close to the home as they were expected to be. Housecarls in regular homes in the base game stay inside the home only, so that's probably why people were confused. The stewards at homesteads will patrol the exterior of the home, as well as every room you build, so if you don't see them inside the main area they're probably either outside or in the cellar. The one legitimate exception to this is Valdimar, whose AI package is glitched. So if you pick someone else as your steward, you should be just fine. — ABCface 03:38, 29 January 2013 (GMT)
Generally, I don't use my regular follower(s) as stewards; I recruit new ones for each house. At first I was hoping the steward and housecarl would protect the manor from bandits and the like; they don't, though they will help in a fight.Quillan (talk) 04:01, 29 January 2013 (GMT)
I just started playing on my PS3 this week. I had a mercenary from Dragonborn as my follower and then hired a steward that was the assigned housecarl. I noticed some dialog from my follower about adventuring in Skyrim, but when I looked around again, he was gone. I guess I'll have to go back and get him again and hope my steward is still there. — Unsigned comment by 184.90.94.30 (talk) at 14:12 on 5 March 2013 (GMT)

Multiple chickens

Do you still have a nest if all of your chickens are killed? I had one chicken die as a result of bandit attack, and I don't seem to be able to buy a replacement chicken. That might be the only advantage to buying max chickens, insurance. --Morrolan (talk) 14:42, 7 February 2013 (GMT)

I'm pretty sure the nest will continue to spawn eggs even if you lose all your chickens. Likewise, I think the Jug of Milk in the kitchen will continue to respawn even if your cow dies. But it needs to be tested. TheRealLurlock (talk) 13:51, 19 February 2013 (GMT)
They do continue to respawn, even after the animals themselves are killed. Jeancey (talk) 19:18, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
I'd just like to point out that I purchased all animals and one of my 3 chickens was killed in a bandit raid. I spent some time doing all the quests in another hold and when I returned to Windstad Manor all 3 chickens were there. So, apparently chickens respawn, and perhaps the cow does as well. The horse is another matter as it's quite expensive, but it's possible the horse would respawn given time. If the Slaughterfish in the Fish Hatchery respawn then it might be worth it to kill them for their scales. Perhaps this should be tested and later added to the articles for clarification?--72.91.149.47 04:54, 23 May 2013 (GMT)Archmage Darium

Levelling Stewards

Do Stewards level up as you do (In the same way as normal followers)? Or do you have to take them back adventuring? 93.96.70.224 10:10, 19 February 2013 (GMT)

This got answered at Skyrim:Followers. People who are followers, but aren't following you, level up all the time, you don't have to take them adventuring. They seem to level up when you enter their cell. --Morrolan (talk) 13:18, 8 October 2013 (GMT)

I believe this is true in some aspect. While having Vorstag as a follower, I hired a steward. When I went to go collect all the items I gave Vorstag to hold, he was gone. I found him later at the Silver-Blood inn. I had to rehire him to get my stuff back. --98.149.253.196 07:16, 16 March 2013 (GMT)
I had J'zargo as my follower and appointed Raaya as the steward of Lakeview Mannor. The first time I thought J'zargo had been killed as there were bandits at my house when I fast traveled so I reloaded and sure enough appointing Raaya triggered the "your follower leaves your service" message and I had to reask J'zargo to follow me. — Unsigned comment by 76.2.181.248 (talk) at 15:57 on 16 July 2013

Followers who can become Stewards

If anyone asks, I fixed the max level / moral level numbers of all the housecarls. All of them were backwards and incorrect, especially reflecting against their own personal pages. A simple input error. BlackOp (talk) 07:10, 27 February 2013 (GMT)

Only one volounteer?

I have this issue when Rayya volounteered for steward work and I declined it, as wanted to see another NPC (Marcurio) as a steward. But when my char went back the same day to Lakeview manor with him (he was left there, nearby, as I only changes Rayyas armour, so he didn't run away too far), the volounteer dialogue wouldn't start and no dialogue options for making follower a steward appeared. Does this mean that only a volounteer NPC can become a steward, and you can't choose? Or few days/weeks should pass to hire yourself a steward after you declined the first one? --Mr.Killjoy (talk) 18:23, 28 February 2013 (GMT)

You should be able to hire him, but you'd best have him follow you when you ask him. Don't know exactly why you couldn't ask him there, but it's probably just because of that. I'm fairly certain you can ask for stewards any time, provided they are eligible ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 18:29, 28 February 2013 (GMT)
Nah, actually, he was my followe at the moment. In a parallel game with another character I have this same issue, but this time with Erik the Slayer. --Mr.Killjoy (talk) 20:47, 3 March 2013 (GMT)

Steward as Spouse?

Is it possible to marry Stewards? I am curious to know because I don't want to screw up a potential marriage by making someone a steward. --86.139.71.169 16:10, 2 March 2013 (GMT)

Yes, it is possible. I converted my follower Lydia into a steward in order to take care of Lakeview Manor. Later on, I initiated the marriage procedure in Rifton and when I came home, of course, wearing the Amulet of Mara, the marriage option immediately became available in her dialogue box. I married her without any problem and when I returned to Lakeview Manor she was already there - now as my wife. You will then have to decide the location where you want to live with her (I chose Lakeview Manor as this was the only possibility available in her dialogue box). Interestingly, I adopted a child before marrying her and the child attended the wedding ceremony. — Unsigned comment by 83.60.187.178 (talk) at 21:12 on 3 March 2013

Steward Disappears After Being Appointed

I can confirm this bug. After hiring my steward, I watch him/her walk into the house and then disappear completely. They are not in the house or anywhere around the area. If I follow them inside it is just empty. — Unsigned comment by 67.246.128.87 (talk) at 21:40 on 14 April 2013 (GMT)

This keeps happening to me as well, but so far she keeps reappearing (eventually), either when I enter my house one time, or sometimes after I exit she will be chopping wood or something. She will be in the house, then I leave and go back in and she would be gone! It through me off guard! I went outside and looked around the house for over 20 mins the first couple times it happened. She seems to always show up eventually after some time passes. Now, I just hope she will eventually keep reappearing after she disappears. On a side note, I wish she wouldn't talk like she was still at the college of WInterhold (Brelyna). Any way to get them to stop speaking location-based phrases? --71.94.53.49 11:12, 25 October 2014 (GMT)
Their dialogue does not change when they are appointed steward, except that they get the new dialogue for the steward tasks. Followers with a lot of location-specific dialogue can be a bit jarring. Your steward is probably just walking around outside, they do that. --Morrolan (talk) 22:18, 26 October 2014 (GMT)

Changing a stewards schedule?

Are they supposed to explore the area around the house? Im having an anoyying issue where at lakeview manor, I have been building there until I got to the part where I was supposed to build the main hall. Went to falkreath, couldnt find Rayya to hire her so when I went back to Lakeview there she was walking around the house scouting the area, however as soon as I ask her to be my follower, she just stands where the workbench is and sometimes mines the iron ore vein, and doesnt scout at all. Then she goes straight inside at 6 oclock and sometimes dissapears completely. is there a way to make her partol the area and not come into my house so early, rather her do her job???— Unsigned comment by 87.113.179.193 (talk) at 22:02 on 18 May 2013 (GMT)

The steward does not patrol around the house, that is the housecarls job. So if you make Ryya steward she stops beeing a housecarl.

Having Three People In One House

I am married to Jordis The Sword Maiden from Solitude, I have Rayya as a housecarl and was wondering if you could also add a third follower as a steward and have three people living under the same roof? If I tell Rayya to stop following me, she will go to Lakeview Manor. If I move my wife to Lakeview Manor then she will live there with Rayya. Is it possible to then make a new follower my Steward or should I go ahead and tell Rayya that she can do it? — Unsigned comment by 98.245.182.125 (talk) at 22:05 on 27 May 2013

That shouldn't be an issue. My Homestead current has myself, my Daughter, my wife Mjoll, Aerin (who just stares at Mjoll while she sleeps), Rayya, and my Steward. If you were to fully furnish your house you would have room for 5 adults and 2 children. You could in theory fit one more adult in there by making your Housecarl stay outside. 74.15.99.199 08:01, 5 June 2013 (GMT)
The most NPCs you can have in your house is six: spouse, housecarl, steward, bard, two children. Somehow even with six NPCs in the house they don't seem to have problems finding beds. --Morrolan (talk) 14:54, 17 September 2013 (GMT)

Speeding up Steward Furnishing

Moved from article:

"You can fast speed your steward's furnishing by leaving the cell of the plot and return. In Lakeview, the two pinetrees between the carriage driver and the small pond is a perfect place to do it. Just run past the trees, back and forward, multiple times and within no time your steward will finish his furnishing. 20-100 times will do it, depending on the job. Check now and then how far he is. Same trick works on Heljarchen and Windstad."

added by 62.107.245.151 at 20:19, on 8 July 2013‎

I've moved this from the article for a few reasons. Aside from the grammar and wording which would need improvements, and the fact that it needs verification from other users on all three homes with multiple rooms to ensure it actually works... it seems to me to be something so unnatural in terms of gameplay that it isn't something we should recommend on an article. If it was simply leaving the area and coming back once, or even twice, that would be a different story (and we already know this doesn't work) but twenty to one hundred times? It seems too extreme to me to be worth noting. Thoughts? — ABCface 20:50, 8 July 2013 (GMT)

I Do not have an account yet, however i I tried this and it seems as if it works. my house was completely furnished after only doing it like 17 times I don't know if that is what it was or if it was the traveling beforehand regardless; my house is furnished and I am happy. :)
EDIT: Okay, I kept trying it and it seems to work. It was taking FOREVER to furnish, and when I kept leaving and reentering the cell it sped up, and is now 100% done. Anyone else want to try and confirm?— Unsigned comment by 66.87.152.180 (talk) at 17:16 on 17 July 2013

Can you tell how many times it took in order for it to work? If the number for most people is much closer to the smaller side of the range originally listed, then it may be worth adding back to the article. — ABCface 14:03, 5 September 2013 (GMT)
Sorry I took so long to reply, I haven't checked this page in a while. Anyway, it seemed that every time i went off my property and back on my steward built two or three things in my house. — Unsigned comment by 27.252.15.177 (talk) at 09:58 on 22 September 2013‎
I can confirm that it does work and looks like it adds a new furnishing each time you cross. So if you told your steward to furnish your entire house, then it could take over 100 crossings since there are a lot of pieces he/she would need to furnish. This is definitely a tip that should be added.75.49.153.158 00:17, 9 February 2014 (GMT)
I can also confirm that this works. Just running in circles around those two trees makes furnishing much much faster. I agree that it seems to be about one item per loop, so if you're doing the whole house at once it would likely take 100+ to furnish it all. --98.203.139.48 05:04, 27 March 2014 (GMT)

Are Personal Stewards permanent (respectfully to each house)?

From reading the discussions, it sounds like once you choose a Steward for any particular homestead, you cannot change your mind and get someone else to be the steward there (except for PC users using debugging console hacks).

I take that to mean that if I asked Lydia at the only home I built, I could not later ask another at that specific location to replace Lydia, unless Lydia dies?

I did not see anywhere in the wiki where it actually states one way or another. Can someone provide an explanation, or add it to the wiki entry page for Personal Stewards? ((or am I totally not seeing where it is explained??))

You are correct. Steward choices are permanent. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 06:46, 27 July 2013 (GMT)
Also, I believe they're like spouses, in that if your steward dies you can't hire a replacement. --Morrolan (talk) 14:52, 17 September 2013 (GMT)

Can anyone on PC verify that these work? They're technically cheats but fit the kind of thing we usually allow on articles, and we do get questions about them sometimes. --Morrolan (talk) 04:12, 24 September 2013 (GMT)
It works, but the command "EmptyRefAlias HouseXSteward" won't work correctly if run from a bat file. If you run all the commands directly from a bat file, the emptyrefalias will fail, but the other 2 will work, making place for steward free, but your old steward will still have his steward dialogs. 109.22.94.188 00:04, 8 October 2013 (GMT)
Alright, so would it work properly if it was just typed into the console then? --Morrolan (talk) 01:55, 8 October 2013 (GMT)
Yes, everything seems to work properly when it's typed into the console, my housecarld of lakeview manor who was steward after this lost his steward dialog and the dialog to propose steward was here. For more testing, i even bring Lydia here to make her steward and she was able to buy me a horse. i simply made 3 bat files, lakeview1, lakview2, lakeview3 with each 1 of the 3 commands. obvioulsy, lakview2 will fail, but i's just for me to have the text under the console to copy it. 109.22.94.188 08:34, 8 October 2013 (GMT)

() Thank you! I can confirm these work. It solve an issue I got when modding improperly, causing my steward at Lakeview to remain my steward after death and after using the dismiss mod. It's just a shame I had to dig into the talks page to find this console command. --Lawful Gray (talk) 22:05, 18 January 2014 (GMT)

These work for dismissing a steward, but I found the command for assigning a steward. This is handy if you have the bug from Dragonborn where a follower does not give you the dialogue option to become steward. For Lakeview Manor, it is simply forceRefIntoAlias house1Steward with the follower you want currently selected as the console target. For Winstad and Heljarchen, it's house2Steward and house3Steward respectively. Don't forget to do SetPapyrusQuestVar BYOHHouseFalkreath bHaveSteward True, or the game might allow you to assign more than one steward, which could cause problems. 24.160.162.146 13:58, 26 January 2014 (GMT)

Steward disappearing is not a glitch.

The steward disappearing is not a glitch I believe it has to do with the purchasing of furnishings or even just having kids. In dialogs with the kids, steward, and spouse they talk about going to the market I believe the disappearing may be them going to the market. Possible glitches could be them not appearing in markets and spouses/kids not leaving the house to go to a market. Fireofall (talk) 02:00, 3 September 2013 (GMT)

None of the holds with the homesteads have markets. — Unsigned comment by 103.6.238.80 (talk) at 07:56 on 17 September 2013
All the homesteads are close to markets (Lakeview is close to Riverwood, Heljarchen is close to Whiterun, and Windstad is close to Solitude). However I've never seen a steward at the market. I don't think this is the explanation. --Morrolan (talk) 04:26, 24 September 2013 (GMT)
I meet only once this "steward disappearing" thing. It simply turns out that he was inside the house but at a place that i still didn't have built. I could see him through the wall with the detecting dragon shoot. 109.22.94.188 22:47, 7 October 2013 (GMT)
Neither Riverwood nor Falkreath has a market. — Unsigned comment by 103.6.238.80 (talk) at 06:57 on 7 November 2013 (GMT)
I just witness something strange. i have the 3 houses, each one a housecarl and a steward. The steward of lakeview manor never sleep, he just stays next the bed. the steward of windstar seems to work fine, and the best is o_O ... The steward of heljarchen goes all the way from heljarchen to windstar to sleep with the steward of windstar. So between 0 h 00 min and more or less 12 h 00 min, he's never at heljarchen because on the road. 109.22.94.188 09:10, 8 November 2013 (GMT)
After having checked ai packages for steward and housecarl in the CK, and the unofficial hearthfire patch fix, it is normal they disappear. Some ai package (at least 3 of them) target the wrong house, so the npc walk all the way to the wrong house (he tries) to do his stuffs. The unofficial hearthfire patch should fix it.109.22.94.188 07:02, 13 November 2013 (GMT)
The only fix that I have come upon is that you need to tell him to follow you and then tell them to wait where you want them to stand. This is at the cost of being able to have a follower, however. {Dragons1ayer189} — Unsigned comment by 50.127.35.144 (talk) on 14 February, 2015‎

Steward Voices

I end up loading the CK to check the list containing the voices supported by the steward dialogue every time I see someone I would consider as a steward. I can't find this one the wiki anywhere either, so perhaps it's just better to post it here for me, and for anyone who'd want to know as well:

  • FemaleCommoner, FemaleCondescending, FemaleCoward, FemaleElfHaughty, FemaleEvenToned, FemaleNord, FemaleSaultry, FemaleCommander, FemaleYoungEager
  • MaleElfHaughty, MaleEvenToned, MaleGuard, MaleNord, MaleNordCommander, MaleOldGrumpy, MaleOrc, MaleSlySynical, MaleYoungEager, MaleCommander, MaleCondescending, MaleCommonerAccented

FemaleChild and MaleChild are in there too, but I don't know... ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 15:12, 3 September 2013 (GMT)

Err, you mean FemaleSultry not FemaleSaultry there right? :) --Morrolan (talk) 04:10, 24 September 2013 (GMT)
Yes, it's the list BYOHVoicesNonUnique against which the quest BYOHHouseStewardOffer checks the follower aliases. --Alfwyn (talk) 17:36, 15 January 2014 (GMT)

Reappointing a steward

I asked Rayya to follow me after dismissing my follower because I hit his max level of 30. I gave Rayya upgraded armor and weapons, so she can protect the house better, and then told her to part. Now the steward texts don't come up. If I walk her outside, and dismiss her there, will she go back in, or go back to Falkreath? FMPhoenixHawk (talk) 08:01, 3 December 2013 (GMT)

Update. Dismissing her outside made her return. Will see if steward dialogue options return later. FMPhoenixHawk (talk) 08:10, 3 December 2013 (GMT)

PS3 Hearthfire I Think I broke my Stewards

The first house I bought was Heljarchen Hall. And during the process of building it Lydia offered to become my steward. And I thought why not? Later I started building Lakeview Manor, and assigned Uthgerd the Unbroken as my steward there. And lastly I bought Windstad Manor but did not immediately assign a steward as I wanted to re-arrange the ones I had.

I wanted Lydia at Lakeview Manor, so I asked Uthgerd to follow me to Windstad. Upon arrival I checked and the option was there for Uthgerd to assume the role as steward, so I posted her there as steward. Then I went back and took Lydia to Lakeview Manor. When I got her there I tried to appoint her as steward, but the option was not available.

Since then I have tried several others, including Uthgerd again, but I cannot assign a steward to Lakeview. And Although the menu is there for Uthgerd to upgrade Windstad, she never actually does it. When I click on the 1000 gold entryway upgrade, she tells me I can't afford it even though I can. When I click on other more expensive things she says ok, but she never actually does them. She also doesn't take the money.

Any help would be appreciated.— Unsigned comment by 40YrOldGamer (talkcontribs) at 23:21 on 23 September 2014

If you read the bugs section of the page, you'll find that a couple of the issues you mentioned in the last paragraph are common bugs. Unless you're playing on PC and can install the Unofficial Hearthfire Patch, it unfortuneatly looks like there isn't anything that you can do to fix them. As for the bug with the first few paragraphs, I can't really help you there. Maybe this has happened to somebody else lurking around the wiki. •WoahBro►talk 23:33, 23 September 2014 (GMT)

Verification of Milk Cabinet

I can verify that without a cow, milk is not deposited in the cabinet, while with a cow it is indeed deposited in that kitchen cabinet. It seems to accumulate over time and maxes out at 7 bottles. Consequently I removed the verification needed tag. Kalevala (talk) 02:58, 18 April 2015 (GMT)

Can't get Rayya to function fully as steward

Made all 3 Manors and appointed housecarls as stewards. While the other two housecarl/stewards will function as advertised, Rayya has no dialog option which allows me to ask her to purchase materials, hire bard or carriage or purchase chickens, cows or horse. Have pretty much built Lakeview up myself but would like to get livestock and servants. Can I remove her as steward and bring in another functioning follower or is this just a bug I can't fix? — Unsigned comment by 50.141.148.150 (talk) at 21:50 on 30 April 2015 (GMT)

What platform are you playing? If you are playing pc, do you have or have had any mods or unofficial patches installed that can affect NPC behaviour? —MortenOSlash (talk) 10:34, 3 May 2015 (GMT)
Am also having difficulty with Rayya as steward and housecarl with 0 dialogue options. I'm playing on PC and have the Ultimate Follower Overhaul mod from Nexus downloaded, though it is not yet updated. Will be back with news if it does/does not fix bug. 73.146.2.133 02:34, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
Bugs introduced by mods or otherwise outside normal gameplay are as a rule not documented on this wiki. It might be a subject for discussion on our forums, though. —MortenOSlash (talk) 15:30, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm also having this problem on PC. Am using USLEEP, but no mods that alter NPCs or followers so it probably isn't a mod problem. 69.14.109.25 06:27, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

() Mods can introduce surprising problems sometimes, Skyrim is pretty heavily interconnected. Can you try disabling the mod and seeing if it fixes Rayya? It's probably a mod issue because nobody's ever reported it on console. --Morrolan (talk) 12:00, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
