Skills

I checked with getAV command, and her best skills in my game were Heavy Armor and Two Handed, both at 100. Block and One Handed were in the 70-ies. (Jordis the Swordmaiden however, had 100 Block and 100 One Handed, but 70-ish Two Handed.) If this is the same for everyone, the article should be updated. 62.235.168.211 07:44, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Marriage

I just married her, but that guy Aerin still follows her into my home. Any help? — Unsigned comment by 77.106.180.38 (talk) at 20:54 on 28 November 2011

I wonder this, too. According to the article, I can't just kill him. Confirm, anyone?-Zydrate[][] 03:32, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
No, killing him before or after marrying her will cause her to freak out, even if she's asleep in another room. And for some reason, she sleeps on a bedroll in the basement of Proudspire Manor, rather than in my king bed. 77.106.180.38 11:24, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Actually if you recruit her as a follower while in another town it will cause him to return to Riften. Follow him out of the town and kill him on the road. She will not freak out because she is a follower. — Unsigned comment by 69.132.19.60 (talk) at 23:27 on 22 December 2011
or with console commands just ~, click on aerin, type disable, ~ and live a happy life. Dragonalumni 05:04, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
or you could have her follow you, have her wait in some random location, go to Aerin's house, murder him, and then go pick up Mjoll again. — Unsigned comment by 67.66.247.18 (talk) at 03:52 on 17 June 2012 (GMT)

Thieves Guild Quest?

After speaking to Mjoll the Lioness she seemed interested in information related to the Thieves Guild, yet I don't seem to have any kind of suitable quest for it. Is she actually associated with any quest for the Thieve's Guild? For example; the Dark Brotherhood can be destroyed as an alternative to becoming a murderer, but is there any option to root out the corrupt Thieves Guild's control over Riften? Haravikk 15:40, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Just a speculation but if we take into account that Mjoll is marked as essential for no clear reason it is pretty much possible that some kind of quest to fight Thieves Guild (when she would be a giver) was planned but not finished by the release.--31.128.139.147 17:22, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

only marriable npc that can't be killed??

The page for Aela the huntress claims that because she is a high ranking member of the companions and can assign quests she is considered essential as well. A bit of contradiction between the Aela and Mjoll pages that has me confused. May need to be re-worded or maybe I'm missing something.Tybodger 07:03, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

Exactly! She's still essential even after marriage! That's why she's a big favorite among the players! I hope Bethesda don't fix it in a patch! — Unsigned comment by 65.92.82.98 (talk) at 03:00 on 15 December 2011
There's more than that... Both Mjoll and Aela are still essential after marriage assuming the player has not complete the totem quests for Werewolf shouts. The big difference is Mjoll levels with the player while Aela does not. Aela also has various other bugs including one that prevents her from carrying the nominal load of items. 75.80.97.155 10:37, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Nothing to fix. It applies to many characters. But she can be killed. It's quite well-known (but clearly not well-known enough) that 'essential' followers CAN die. They can die if YOU kill them (directly or by initiating an action). They can die if they suffer enough damage from a sentient enemy recognises they are yielding and leaves them alone. A non-sentient 'enemy' (e.g. your blade trap) cannot recognise a yield and could inflict sufficient damage to kill. Damage-over-time which takes health negative will also kill. 82.31.158.32 21:38, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
That would be a bug. They are marked essential for a reason. If Bethesda wanted them to be killable they wouldn't be marked essential. AFAIK they corrected an issue in 1.3 where splash damage from directed attacks on the player could kill your follower(s). However, DoTs can still kill if they cause enough residual damage. Also certain NPCs can be killed by the player in certain ways. Essential NPCs that do not respond negatively to friendly fire (its a separate flag from essential) cannot be killed by the player repeatedly attacking them directly-- I tried it with various single attacks that far exceeded their remaining health; something that would easily 1-hit the NPC. These NPCs can still die under certain presumably bugged conditions. The only safe NPCs are those with scripted god mode that can never die even from bugs, exploits, or console commands that would otherwise kill a NPC-- AFAIK the only follower this applies to is Barbas (dog) that has little actual health but never takes any damage. 75.80.97.155 10:37, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

once more concerning immortal/unkillable status

I've only had three partners so far, Brelyna Maryon, Mjoll the Lioness, and Aela the Huntress, and all of them act in the same manner. When they were in recovery as a result of combat with an enemy I was able to kill all three. I also tested out in a Dwemer Ruin with a rotating blade trap that killed all of my characters in one hit, all spouses survived continuous hits by the blade, laughably, while also being dragged by the blade as it moved along the ground, and they stayed in recovery unless I hit them myself. I don't believe it's accurate at all to describe Mjoll as completely immortal, and she's certainly not the only semi-immortal follower or spouse either. Duran 04:14, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

No they can't, i've beaten Mjoll to a pulp. Used every spell on her while down, she just kept getting back up and fighting me. — Unsigned comment by 108.78.160.202 (talk) at 21:37 on 12 December 2012
The difference is that all followers have Protected status, and they can be killed by the player. Mjoll has the additional Essential status, meaning she can't be killed. Protected was only discovered fairly recently, after the initial comments here. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:44, 12 December 2012 (GMT)

Moved from article

  • To do with the Thieve's guild. Mjoll is also a *difficulty* partner.

(ex: she will be easy to take down by higher level enemies on novice, whereas she will be able to handle a master level elder dragon for some time on master difficulty).

  • Take full advantage of daedric armor and weapons.
  • Mjoll as a companion on legendary difficulty setting: you might find Mjoll's strengths include making great use of heavy weapons such as battle axes, greatswords, and warhammers.

All of these notes seems like personal opinion/playstyle rather than truly useful notes. --Krusty 07:28, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Marrying Mjoll

I can't seem to marry her every time i go to attend the wedding its says i've failed and Aerin appears naked and dead on the temple of Mara' floor. What do i have to do to just marry her? — Unsigned comment by 90.215.141.6 (talk) at 16:35 on 20 December 2011

Well normally you just wear the amulet after she likes you and arrange the wedding. It is possible that Aerin was killed earlier on, for example there are often thieves who get into fights with the riften guards and maybe he was killed in the cross-fire. I'd say check the pages for each of the chracters involved with mjoll and see if there are any glitches. If it is a glitch it will probably be fixed in a patch eventually. You could probably use the console to fix it if on PC, sorry I can't help more..RIM 16:40, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Glitch. Can anyone help?

I can't get Mjoll's quest. I am MUCH past level 14,(the level requirement to start the quest) I have a good reputation in Riften, I am thane. I have tried absolutely everything. I went to the ruin and it wasn't there where it was supposed to be. (I reloaded after that to try and avoid any more glitches.) I have gotten her quest before on previous careers, although, on this career I waited till I was level 50 to go to Riften for the first time so she would be a higher level. I have no idea why she won't give me the quest.

Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know any fixes?!

If you know how to fix this, then please reply. — Unsigned comment by Godzilla (talkcontribs) at 22:17 on 20 December 2011

I have this same problem but i did it at level 81. The sword is unfindable and its actually pissing me off quite bad. Andreww 99.155.42.126 00:43, 29 November 2012 (GMT)

Re: Grimsever quest as requisite to marry Mjoll

I believe in order to get this quest you need to have done some of the main quest up to finishing the The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller quest. I've loaded six characters up now, one with the intent on marrying Mjoll, only one ever doing her quest. In each one where I hadn't finished this quest, or even started the main quest at all, I was never given her Grimsever quest. In every single one where I had passed this point in the main quest the option was there. On the character I intended on marrying Mjoll with this was a problem at first and indeed upon completing the Horn of Jurden Windcaller quest I was able to get the Grimsever quest and have the option of marrying her upon completion. Hope this is helpful to others. Duran 14:19, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

This is very helpful, thank you for the information. I was wondering why I wasn't getting the quest until I did some of the MQ and she finally gave up the quest. Now I know exactly how far to go, thanks again. :) --Mikeyy 08:21, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Just finished The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller. The quest did not become available. Either this is not part of the prerequisite at all for the quest, it is bugged for me, or there is some other requirement. Rookwood 19:20, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
I got the quest and I haven't done a single thing with the main quest (I still have Before the Storm active). When I first entered Riften and talked to her I couldn't get it. I spent the day talking to all the NPC's then ran into Mjoll outside again when it was dark and was able to ask her about the sword. Maybe a day has to pass? Maybe you need to speak to her at certain hours?--RumblePen 11:59, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
Another thing I forgot to mention, I went from level 28 to 29 between not being able to get the quest and being able to. Could it be that this quest, and perhaps other content in the hold, is leveled upon when you first enter it? I also noticed most of the armed citizens are carrying Glass weapons. I don't think this is the case if you go to Riften at level 1, or even if you return at level 30 later on.--RumblePen 02:27, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
Based on tips from UESP I decided to stop leveling my character at 15. Basically I just stopped opening up the skills menu after level 15. I have completed most of the quests in game that do not have a level requirement and her quest does not appear. I then saved and level up to 42; since I saved up my level points the game forces a level up to the amount of xp I accumulated. I don't know what her level requirement is but there is definitely a level requirement and its above 15. — Unsigned comment by 75.80.97.155 (talk) at 06:56 on 1 January 2012
I got her quest, returned Grimsever and I married her at level 20 having only done Whiterun Dragon in MQ, nothing else. Later I regret it a little she talks too much.Dragonalumni 12:56, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

() I can confirm the info posted by RumblePen. I too have not advanced the Before the Storm quest, yet I received the Grimsever quest from Mjoll. I'm pretty sure you have to level up once after your first meeting with her (when she'll mention Grimsever but the quest won't be available). Then, when you speak to her again, the Grimsever's Return quest will activate. And Level 14 is the minimum character level required to unlock the quest. Evil-i 01:40, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Follower Hunting Bow Glitch

I have had Aela before, and it is widely known she has an annoying glitch where she refuses to use any bow other than her crappy hunting bow and a few select others. Somehow, after using Mjoll for a while, she now has this same damned glitch. Apparently she likes her hunting bow better than an epic ebony one. Also, unlike Aela's glitch, iron arrows don't fix it. Can anyone help? — Unsigned comment by 174.252.187.95 (talk) at 19:51 on 21 December 2011

I have not encountered this glitch, as she has always used her new daedric bow, ebony arrows, and deadric two-hander (wearing full Ancient Nord armor). --Mikeyy 08:19, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
I have the exact same glitch. She uses daedric arrows, but won't switch away from her hunting bow. (92.30.181.56) 18:15, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
I had exactly the same problem trying to make both Aela and Mjoll use things like ebony or daedric, they seemed to be fine with the Forsworn bow though, so it's worth getting the Forsworn bow to legendary and enchanting it with soul trap 1 second then giving your follower plenty of soul gems of various sizes, they'll have them filled in no time. It's a pity there wasn't an option to recharge enchanted weapons whilst being in your followers inventory rather than taking it recharging then giving it back. :Pedestrial — Unsigned comment by 82.31.57.133 (talk) at 21:44 on 23 January 2012

Still Follows After Aerin Dead

Mjoll is still a follower for me, even after I killed Aerin. This was in my Breezehome in Whiterun... I told Mjoll to follow me, had her wait in the upstairs bedroom. When she follows you, Aerin returns to Riften on foot. I waited until he was downstairs, back-stabbed him, then drug his body into the alchemy room. For the next few days, Mjoll followed me through some dungeon delving, and when we returned, his body was no longer there. She still follows me and everything. I do believe as long as she never sees the body, she's fine with him strangely disappearing. --Mikeyy 08:17, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

I was out in the middle of nowhere with Mjoll, I hit "part ways",waited for 5minutes or so and Aerin suddenly appeared and joined her, I then rehired her as a follower, walked around the wilderness for a while until we ran into foes (in this case was a couple of Ice Wraiths) before we were spotted I asked Mjoll to wait.
Aerin then ran off to slay the Ice Wraiths and failed miserably, I looted his corpse then dragged the corpse back to Mjoll where she preceded to stand on his face, so as a follower she is completely unaware of his existance or demise. :Pedestrial — Unsigned comment by 82.31.57.133 (talk) at 21:28 on 23 January 2012

Can't find Mjoll

I just went to riverwood after the horn quest and then killed the dragon that was the next step.I realized on the way that mjoll wasn't there. I cannot recruit another follower because they think I already have one. Any ideas where she may be if she's not stuck in riverwood or uversgardt? Back in riftin maybe? It's a big world and I can't find her. She has a lot of my things. Also she talks too much. — Unsigned comment by 166.137.137.54 (talk) at 05:38 on 6 January 2012

Chest in Her room - PC Version

I have been using this chest in her room to store ore, soul gems and some weapons, even a soul trap weapon I just got from a quest.

I went back there after about a week of game time or maybe 2 weeks, and everything in the chest was gone and it was reset to the same crap that was in there

after I married her. So beware that it could happen on the other consoles too. — Unsigned comment by Warhascome (talkcontribs) on January 17, 2012 01:42

Indeed, I'm pretty sure that only PC purchased homes and such are safe for storing - with a few exceptions, of course. I wouldn't trust anything in Aerin's house, even after I killed him. --Mikeyy 22:19, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

/* 2h vs 1h */

Nobody seems to noticed how ironic it is that her quest weapon is one handed but her major skill is 2handed. Dragonalumni 13:00, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Mjoll and magic staffs

Mjoll is adept at the use of magic staffs, such as fireball staffs, although she cannot recharge them herself. You have to take them back from her and do that for her. Apart from that, she often prefers this type of weapon if she has it in her inventory and is very deadly with it.

I discovered this when I gave her a couple of extra staffs to carry, only to find that in our next encounter with an enemy, the enemy was blasted out of my path almost before I could get my sword out. Her predilection for the use of such weapons is not mentioned anywhere in the article on her and can come as a considerable surprise. — Unsigned comment by 174.6.51.17 (talk) at 18:37 on 30 January 2012

It's not exclusive to Mjoll; Vilkas did the same thing, and I presume other followers will too. I gave him a Staff of Fireballs to carry once, and he would blast enemies with it until he got into melee range, whereupon he'd pull out his trusty two-hander. Since he was making such good use of it, I just let him keep it. --Silmina 18:50, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Trading bug

A word of caution: If you've traded some items with Mjoll, be sure to take them back before you dismiss her. I encountered a glitch in which the gear was labelled as starting armor. Luckily, I was married to Mjoll, so I was able to buy them back, and I've gotten over it, but I still advise caution when doing so, and I don't know if the same applies to other followers, but be sure to take your gear back when you have the chance just to be on the safe side. Nikofeelan 12:58, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Similar situation here. I bought Mjolls gear being my wife just to see her walking around in underwear. The problem now is that for some reason she almost cannot give her anything to carry. I tried to give her my Daedric armor and she is not able to handle the weight of the full armor. She can only wear an orc armor and a two-handed sword, that's it. However, if I ask her to pick up something she can do it, but she won't wear it. Ramirezalford 360 version april 15 2012

I want to kill off Mjoll (Xbox)

Hi guys, I've heard a rumour going around that you can remarry if you kill your previous wife. I find Mjoll so annoying and I want her dead. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can do this? P.S. I'm on Xbox so I can't do console commands. — Unsigned comment by ChaosZeus999 (talkcontribs) at 12:13 on 5 June 2012

Sorry, you can only get married once per game. RIM 15:17, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

I've tried everything :C

Alright so I've had Mjoll for a while and I've beaten Dawnguard but I don't want Mjoll as my wife any more and I'm play on the XBOX. Now, I've taken her to a spinning blade trap and she gets knocked down and I try hitting her with no avail she doesn't die D: I just need someone to clarify on how to do this. — Unsigned comment by Rorick (talkcontribs) at 01:46 on 29 June 2012

That's true, you married an unkillable woman. You'll just have to put up with her. The Silencer speaksTalk 00:27, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

The Gift

Am I to assume that during said quest, turning Mjoll into a vampire also removes her essential tag? I've not bought the DLC yet, but will soon, and like to plan ahead. Would be pretty amazing if she doesn't lose her tag, even after turning undead. Mikeytalkemail 13:27, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Confirmation - Completed quest named The Gift and turned Mjoll into a vampire. Waited the appropriate time for the change to occur, confirmed by her glowing red eyes, took her out into the wilderness and proceeded to test her essential tag, which is still in place even on an undead flagged Mjoll. 100% unkillable, even by friendly fire, even as an undead NPC. She still remains the best follower in the game IN MY OPINION. Now only to level her up via the mudcrab glitch. :) Mikeytalkemail 17:04, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Can't Pick Mjoll's Pocket

I was continuously playing Thieves Guild quests. I got a fishing job to swipe something from Mjoll's pocket. But I just can't pick her pocket. I made her unessential and killed her with console commands. Then I resurrected her again with console command. Now I could pick her pocket. But when I pick her pocket and return to Delvin with the loot, the quest fails since Mjoll died. So I tried to load an early save, killed her, resurrected her and saved again. When I reload the game, I can't pick her pocket again. Can someone shed some light in the matter? Any possible solution? — Unsigned comment by 180.149.7.66 (talk) at 18:06 on 14 August 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure of what the cause for it is, but the easiest solution would be to just quit the job. There is no penalty for quitting the random Thieves Guild quests, so if you come across an issue making it hard or impossible to finish it, it's best to just give up and immediately take another job. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:06, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
