Iona/Honeyside Duplication Quirk

I’ve recently experimented with the exploit to duplicate items by having followers pick up dropped items. I’ve noticed that about 30% of the items duplicated by Iona in Honeyside are flagged as stolen, even though they were legitimate before the duplication. I’m currently trying to determine if the flag is coming from Iona or Honeyside.

Update: appears to be Honeyside. Duplicating items with Lydia in Honeyside also caused the stolen tag.

Finding Iona[edit]

For those that have a pc and are stuck after buying the house and receiving the "Thane" title but have no house carl (Iona). Move to just outside Honeyside and hit the tilda (`) key to open the console and type in "player.placeatme 000A2C91" without quotes. Hit the tilda again and Iona will appear next to you. Talk to her and she will ask, "What can I do for you my Thane?" Problem solved.

Correction to above, that should be just "inside" the house. She may well disappear again. — Unsigned comment by 118.209.166.209 (talk)

I'm afraid to say that this is very bad advice: placeatme should never be used on named NPCs as it can break all sorts of things: quests, dialogue, scripts, anything that uses the original character's reference ID; apart from potentially having two identical NPCs running around and the problem with savegame bloating if it's used often. "a2c93.moveto player" will summon her without creating a duplicate.
tl;dr version: do not use placeatme with named NPCs. --Vometia 17:16, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
not even "a2c93.moveto player" worked for me. this is the Nth fucking time a quest gets bugged for me in Skyrim. uninstalling.

That's because you're typing it wrong. Use this:

PRID A2C93 then type MOVETO PLAYER

And Iona will appear next to you. Do this while inside your house and she'll stay there, unless you asked her to follow you.

Solve Thane of the Rift bug[edit]

If you got bugged and can't be Thane of the Rift after speaking to the Jarl, open the console and type in: player.setstage freeformriftenthane 200. This will complete the quest, give the reward and make Iona your housecarl.

Death[edit]

Turns out Iona can die in non-player combat. I entered Alftand and, at one point your path is blocked because there is no walkway to the lower level. (It's right near the room with the Expert locked gate and, inside, a book on lockpicking and a Master locked chest. I'd use Unrelenting Force to push her off the platform and onto the lower level (so that she'd accompany me) but, deciding to take another route, I pushed her to the lower platform. She survived the fall, of course. Then I used Whirlwind Sprint to descend more directly but left her behind--she'd have to fight through the Falmer, Dwarven automatons, and occasional Falmer pet. I eventually got into Blackreach and she didn't appear. I slept 8 hours and she didn't appear. I went to the Tower of Mzark and used the mechanism to transcribe the cube and retrieve the Elder Scroll itself before exiting to Skyrim and travelling to my house in Riften--where she's supposed to end up. I used "a2c93.moveto player" and her corpse appeared in my house. I definitely didn't murder her myself but she died none the less. --67.248.246.4 02:15, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

It's possible she was caught in between Falmer using chain lightning and Dwarven Automatons. Lydia died when I was close enough to her recovering form for her to be hit once.--Playerseekingbugs 07:28, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Iona becomes hostile and violent[edit]

I owned Honeyside for a while before becoming Thane. When Iona moved in I noticed she seems to like cooking. I only met her once before going out on some quests, I had not invited her to follow me.

After a few days of adventuring I went to Honeyside to take a nap. The message pops up "You cannot sleep with enemies nearby.". What? Then Iona charges into the bedroom swinging her sword and screaming at me. Several reloads with the same result each time. I had not handled any items, stolen or otherwise.

This is my theory. In between the time I became Thane and the time Iona went psycho I remember that I was touring the garden that comes with the house. When I saw it had chickens I tested to see if the chickens were mine by killing one with a guard standing nearby. There were no alarms, shouts or arrests, so I harvested the meat and went on my merry way. As things turned out I think the chicken might have been Iona's. You know how these Nords are about their chickens.

Now I have a dead Housecarl in the basement

I too had this problem and i also killed a chicken--Vanus Galerion (talk) 16:54, 24 September 2012 (GMT)

Same here, I just believe that it is a glitch. Best solution, make her a steward in one of your homesteads added by Hearthfire. I had to use Voice of the Emperor many times. I'm getting tired of it. White Lightning (talk) 02:20, 29 October 2019 (GMT)

Iona after imperial takeover[edit]

It would seem that after the imperials takeover, if you were thane under Elisif and had Iona, you keep Iona and she is the only one who still addresses you as thane when Maven becomes Jarl. Every other hold I captured for the imperials where I was thane before, I could become thane again by a brief series of dialogue with the Jarl, except Riften. I don't know if I really still have the title of thane here, and Maven never does anything but gloat, so I can't check it by how she addresses me. Another reason I want to send her to Calixto.--Playerseekingbugs 19:47, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
